The church explored some dungeons and found queen yharnam and the old blood, then the classic "Science goes wrong" plot happens. Meanwhile gherman tries to use eldritch power to make a waifu and gets stuck in a dream until the source of the beast problem is fixed, which is another great one. The entire game is just the moon pressence trying to fix the beast scourge the humans caused through convoluted dickery

Thanks to people like that flocking to anything dark, enjoying macabre is seen as edgy, but you cannot really blame them, it's a natural part of growing up.
