Fallout New Vegas

I've only played bits of New Vegas years and years ago on a friend's PS3 and I wanna try it out now, I heard it's the best Fallout. Is that true? What DLCs/Mods should I get for it?

Good game, better than 3 and 4. Still prefer 1 and 2, however.

It's 10 bucks right now for the ultimate edition. Has it been lower?

at least for me the must have mod in any playthrough is Project Nevada for some gameplay related enhancements(Sprint, Grenade hotkey, Difficulty balances, etc) and yes, it's the best 3D Fallout, I would still recommend playing the classics however.

...

Pirate it and all the DLCs, Lonesome Road is the only one that's shit but I guess even it is worth going through once. As for mods, just get some bugfixes and maybe some graphical mods for your first playthrough.

Always bet on the house

Best Fallout is Fallout 2 in my opinion, but there are people that prefer Fallout 1.
Of the 3D fallouts however, NV is by far the best, mostly because it's the only game that feels like Fallout.
Fallout 3 and 4 are dieselpunk post apocalyptic somethings but that is not what Fallout is about.

I'm here to remind you that Dead Money is objectively the best dlc of all.

Of course. It improves on Fallout in every way, adds a fuckpile of additional content and replayability.
Contrarians and hipsters. The first game is ridiculously linear and short, and offers very little replayability.
Also correct, although I'd go further and say that it's the only game out of the three 3D titles that is actually good.

OWB>DM>>>>HH>>>>>>>>LR

Fallout 3 feels just like Oblivion with guns. Not only because of the engine, but many characters and factions parallel each other too. I guess Bethesda thought this would be "clever" while saving them a lot of work.
Fallout 4 on the other hand is even worse. I don't even know what they were going for with that one.

Hi reddit.

What are the big essential mods to this game if any.

No. OWB is fun for it's tongue in cheek content, but dead money is the king of the dlcs.

OWB is non-linear and can be tackled in any order you want, has fuckton of interesting lorefag shit, has the best variety in enemies, and is actually somewhere you want to (and can) return to once the DLC is over.

DM is great for the unique, almost survival horror experience, especially if you tackle it at a low level before you're able to load up on overpowered perks that trivialize it, but I still don't think it's as good as OWB.

Is there a mod that allows things like the ranger takedown to be preformed while carrying a weapon? Or a mod that add a stove into the suite? Or a mod that removes the rads in Nuka-Cola?

Trying to remember the ones I used on my playthrough:
New Vegas Anti-Crash
Electro-City
Project Nevada if you want some game mechanic overhauls, you can configure it how you like

Purely cosmetic:
Nevada Skies - Weather Effects
Weapon Retexture Project
Wasteland Flora Overhaul
Populated Casinos

Radio stations:
CONELRAD 640-1240
Old World Radio

Strangely I feel like the radio station mods are some of the most essential to the game's atmosphere, otherwise you'll get raped by hearing SPURS, THAT JINGLE JANGLE JINGLE over and over unless you want no music at all.

Dead money has by far the best atmosphere of all the dlcs however. And your actions have a direct consequence on every one of your companions at the conclusion, after you've spent time investing in them. Also, while you have several different ways of dealing with the thinktank/mobius, Dead Money leaves you more options when you factor in the endings for each of your companions and how to deal with Elijah. There's even a secret ending with Elijah, if you fill the prerequisites. On top of that, dead money also has significant contributions to the lore. While it's not the nightstalkers or cazadores origin, it does expand on new technologies and features some of the contraptions that the big empty helped to develop, like the slot vendors. I also wasnt a fan of how tanky every enemy ended up being in OWB.

His lucky 38 suite reloaded adds a stove. It also has auto sorting if you're feeling lazy, a securitron butler, and other stuff.

penises on feet :)

How do I use FOMM, pic related it's me.

Goonshit's still overpriced.

It's clearly the best First person Fallout, Obsidian managed to make something better with in a year or two (IIRC) than Bethesda ever did in 7 or 8 years with Fallout 3 or 4.
Comparing NV to F1 and F2 is impossible due to the different gameplay, but I suggest you try them too, they're great.
F3 is a fucking disappointment in terms of RPG. So many stuff from F2 down the drain, so linear…
F4 is not even an RPG, it's an open world FPS with crafting elements. Lore has been destroyed, Roleplay's been destroyed, it's ridden with bugs… For that, even Minecraft is better. Inexcusable.

Use Mod Organizer instead. Also, here's a nice list of mods you should try:

In terms of writing? Yes. Gameplay? Not.

Dead Money and Old World Blues make sense when you realise they're basically designed to screw you over if you went for a Guns/Stealth sniper build which was apparently popular.

As for mods, if you don't get anything else, get jsawyer; it's basically the final patch they never got to make, being released by one of the lead developers. (Hence the name; J Sawyer) Makes the game a fair bit harder (slashes your carrying capacity just for starters, and you don't start with all the Courier's Stash gear anymore) but on the other hand does actually make some things easier. (You don't need training to wear power armour, though it's more convenient when you are trained)

You heard wrong.

I'm the only one who thinks that in terms of narrative, DM should be last DLC? Everything amounts to the final confrontation with Elijah. Also HH makes only sense if the gameplay continued after the end. (Why someone would take their sweet time acting as a escort to a caravan when Benny was on the loose, or after his arc, being under the employ of the big players with a battle looming around?)

Yes, since it's the only one with the good ending.

For fucks sake leftypol.

...

Why didn't they just give China a few of those to reverse engineer along with nuclear reactor designs?

Because of need of money and loot? That's pretty much the reason why you do most of the sidequests anyway

get in here faggots

Hi Todd

Fallout 1 is best.

Thanks guys, I'll be starting it soon. Wish me luck.

Also quick question, how does the Courrier's Stash DLC work? Does it just add the stuff to your inventory? Is there any better way to have the items in the game without just being given them, like a mod or something?

shitloads of them

I never knew I wanted this, Thank you very much user!

Oh wow, yet another New Vegas thread.

to the fags rating dlc

nv dlc is trash, only good fallout dlc are far harbor and mothership zeta.

...

Damn, I wish I knew about this before starting.

Is there a mod that let's me rename saves.

I drop everything when I start my runs, having a fully repaired GL at start is just fucking overpowered.

Just sell all these weapons

Your opinion is wrong.

At least it's a game.

new vegas is overrated
just because it sticks out between 2 turds doesn't mean its amazing

Common misconception not supported by facts.

That's what everyone calls you for preferring FO2 over the more recent ones to begin with, dipshit.
FO1 and FO2 fill the same niche, and I personally prefer FO1 because it had a better atmosphere, the locations were more interesting overall and the story was a lot better. FO2 had a lot of objective improvements from a gameplay perspective, but I don't like the start of the game, and the fact the pop culture references and silly shit was cranked up to 200% which Bethesda would later on end up shoehorning into their games.

But FO1 is objectively the best Fallout.

It is the best 3D Fallout, I haven't played 1 and 2 or tactics to say if those are actually better. New Vegas manages to blend traditional RPG mechanics, dialogue, and choice while also using Bethesda's gameplay template. Showing that it CAN be done, Bethesda is just too lazy to do it right.

There's a lot of build variety, you can hit things with melee weapons and blow niggas up, shoot people with energy weapons with stealth, etc. Charisma is also actually useful, rarely are there situations you can't talk your way out of. I come back to it consistently just to fuck around with gimmicky builds.

Factions are well rounded from a story perspective, not so much from a gameplay perspective. Caesar's Legion got most of their content cut, you never get to travel far enough into their territory to see their good side, just the war side, this unfairly paints them as wholesomely evil which leaves you to take Caesar at his word when he talks about their virtues.

The DLCs are pretty much great all around in one aspect or another. Old World Blues will either really hit or really miss depending on how much you like the humor. Lonesome Road is the weakest of the bunch, but provides some cool closure and lets you nuke the fuck out of whichever faction suits your fancy.
