Thing is, Okami's pacing tried my patience even for an action/adventure game. I think locking the combat in little confined areas like that was a huge mistake. Especially when the combat system itself is tedious. In Zelda, if I can't be arsed to fight some boring enemy, I can just seamlessly walk away from it.

Don't know about the later portions of the game because I stopped playing at that point. And how is Bayonetta slow? Are you trying to say that it progresses too slow (enemies have too much health, etc.) or that the combat rhythm is slow? (enemies not attacking often enough, etc.) Because rhythmically speaking, Bayonetta on 3rd climax gets your heart pace up like a nigger writing a paycheck.

Okami's considered way better in Japanese. When it was translated they fucked up by leaving the text scroll speed the same, even though english requires more text for the same info. That meant every conversation is slower, and has way more text bubbles to fit it all in, which they could have fixed by just making the font smaller and scroll faster. Playing the jap version makes the game like two hours faster to finish on average, it's fucking nuts how bad they screwed it just by not thinking about what they were doing with the text speed of all things.

Similar to games with hardcoded load animations that take the same amount of time to load no matter how much technology has improved since they came out. Mass Effect 1 was fucking horrible about that, since it was slow as shit on pc even at release.
