MH4 features the ability to grapple monsters via jumping-attacks (ie off a ledge) and monsters that're quite a bit more aggressive than usual. It drew me in in a way that the others haven't quite managed even though it's still the same core game.

All new maps, several new monsters, 2 new weapons and new mechanics. MHX and MHXX have also some out since then and add even more shit, including styles for weapons and the ability to play as a cat.

So 3U was your most recent. Since then, they added 2 new weapons, one being a glaive and the other being what starts out as essentially a slower but beefier sns that transforms into a 2 handed axe that explodes and looks really cool. There was also some bullshit with apex versions of monsters and honing weapons but that stuff doesn't come back in later games so it's not important.
In MHXX they added 4 different styles which change movesets and how the weapons play, along with hunter arts which are pretty much supers that charge up over a hunt. Those styles are guild, which is the default you've seen in earlier games, aerial which lets you vault off things and do jumping attacks, striker which simplifies your moveset but gives a small raw damage boost as well as faster charge type for arts and lets you equip more of them and bushido/adept which lets you dodge out of things you otherwise wouldn't be able to and do a counter attack.
MHXX is the G rank version of MHX and it adds 2 more styles. Brave is pretty much "come at me bro" and alchemy which lets nyou make fairly strong items on the spot and does stuff with the new SP mode which I haven't really looked into all that much.
The monster variety has also been improved a ton, just look up a wiki if you want to see them.

There's a bunch, and by bunch I mean absurd amount, of licensed games and AA stuff that never got eShop'd. There's a Tranformers game, 2 ports of Splinter Cell, a few fighters (I can't recall if DoA Dimensions is on Freeshop). Bunch of racing games, too.
And that's only the western stuff. I'm sure there's hundreds of Jap titles that are retail only.
There's something like 66% of US eShop titles up, maybe 50% EU and 30-40% JP. There is a running tally on the titlekeys site, but from what I recall it doesn't tell you what those games missing are.

In the past year, we had Sekaiju no MeiQ 5, Monster Hunter XX, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 Professional, Blaster Master Zero, All Kamen Rider Rider Revolution, Gyakuten Saiban 6, and Shin Megami Tensei 4 FINAL, all of which should be up on FreeShop.

It got plenty of "system sellers" but nothing completely 100% unique and never done before.

Generally MonHun players aren't looking for a completely new game, we just want to hunt more monsters. It's fun.

Might be coming a little late since two of the big ones I wanted to play (Radiant Historia and Strange Journey) are getting 3DS rereleases soon anyway, but this would still be useful and should probably get added to the OP for next time.

For the normalfags, Fire Emblem 13 and Pokemon 6. For the hardcore crowd, Monster Hunter 3G was probably the single biggest one since it came out pretty damn early.

Only 3 of those are RPGs, and of those MeiQ 5 is anything but shitty. Can't speak on Joker 3 or FINAL yet though, my backlog has been fucking huge. MonHun is MonHun, Gyakuten is Gyakuten, and the other two are really short and tragically easy yet still competent action games.

If you're talking about a game that made you, personally, think the system was worth getting, that's going to be by definition very personal. For me, it's very rare that any single game sells a system, since I usually pick it up when it has at least a handful of exclusive titles I want to play.

TWLoader is the free homebrew solution for playing NDS games. Still needs work on improvement.
A flashcart will cost you $15 to $10 but will play everything perfectly.

Some anons recommend using TWLoader to launch the flashcart, if you get the latter.

So I'm trying to get a USB Loader installed on my vWii that supports loading games from the SD card because my SD card is huge and mostly empty space and I'm already using my USB-(SATA/IDE) thing for WiiU games and I don't want to get another HDD. Anyway, I was reading this guide about Wii hacking (sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/usb) and it said that all USB loaders support SD loading, so I installed USB Loader GX and the channel forwarder. I probably should have checked the official page for USB Loader GX though, because it doesn't actually support SD loading for Wii games. Anyway, that lead me to look at Configurable USB Loader, which does support SD loading. However, the official version of that hasn't been updated in years and probably doesn't have vWii support, so I took a look at a modded version of it I found here (cfgusbloader.ntd.homelinux.org/trac/CfgUSBLoader/). My question is this: What's the difference between cfg70r78.11.dol and cfg70r78.11-222.dol, and is it okay to boot this loader using the forwarder made for USB Loader GX?

TW Loader is operational now, but its mostly limited to the basics like Mario at the moment. Most games either don't run, or run with glitches. And R4 is still gonna be your best bet for now, it's what I use.

It's not broken because of CFW, but CFW is the only way to make it work. The EULA error is you not accepting the EULA for that game's region. Obviously, you would of only normally accepted the EU EULA, so a US game won't have you saying you accepted.

DS emulation is fucked. The main emulator is NDS-Bootstrapper but it's a WIP and only really works for Mario 64.

I was trying to get that website part working but it just froze every time with some graphical glitches (didnt show any text or buttons) so I restarted it a few times and the second time I did this I was never able to boot it back up. I think I accidently turned sleep mode on by not holding down the button long enough or something.

I tried booting it with the SD card in and it brought my to some boot screen and I chose the automatic part and now when it boots up it just tells me there was an error and to press any button to quit.

Actually I can do the other parts of the guide, but I haven't installed armhaxloader. Am I fucking myself over? Is there a way to install it after restoring the system?

it removes dlc for games you didn't buy, so if you visit it you'll have to reinstall that. i don't think it does anything else strange.

the games are tied to your nnid and your console id. as long as you haven't messed with the freindcodeB file you'll be fine to download anything you clear out.

If you are using Arm9loaderhax+Luma then its always safe to update. Its always a good idea to go into Hourglass9 though and make a NAND backup before doing the update so you can roll back if you want too. Make sure all your homebrew applications work on 11.4 also before updating

If you've got CFW, yes, you can update to 11.4.
eShop will work fine. If you're unsure, wait an extra day or two for Freeshop/CIAngel to update so you can use those to download the games.

Anyone having trouble running DS games? Already confirmed it's neither the slot or cartridge, didn't work starting from TWL either. Last thing I did that may have affected the system itself:
Only thing I did afterward was messing around trying to get new dlc for Swapdoodle. Never figured it out for freeshop and 3dsiso didn't have a download. This eventually led to restoring the SD backup deleted all the data without backing up extdata first and updating Luma again because I'm not sure where that's stored.
I don't believe I've tried playing ds games since updating and I know it worked fine before that.
I guess I'll try restoring the NAND backup but a fix that lets me play online would be better.

XX is definitely more fun than X, but it's nowhere near the level of 4U, which I would say is the pinnacle of MonHun for now.

MH5 started development alongside X, so hopefully they won't be adding the shit from X like styles, though a lot of the changes in XX, like trap breaking, fishing, kinsect etc should be kept.

A good example of shovelware from the Japs are those two Kamen Rider Ex-AID games. They are just generic beat-em ups with nothing amazingly new added to the genre.
The only real difference between the 2 is one is a 2D platformer with beat 'em up segments and one is a 2.5D beat 'em up with segments of platforming.

To be fair, if you're talking about the Mighty Action X one, that was a miniature bonus game that was an add-on for first print purchases, and not exactly meant as a full purchase title. All Rider Revolution WAS very short and mindless though which is a fucking shame, because a game without about 5x the length and a wider variety of abilities would've been amazing

Tried the fix in the 3ds.guide troubleshooting section and that didn't work. Restored my last nand backup (11.3) and ds and gba was working again but I got some kind of error when I tried to start Animal Crossing. Something about the file not being "the last one saved". Going to see if restoring back to the start of all this saves it.

AC is safe, gba still doesn't work, assuming the same for ds. The rollback also got rid of folders from post-update and Metroid and Metroid 2 are gift-wrapped. I'll just assume that's all to be expected. Unfortunately this puts me back to square one.

They hold multiple games and lets you play romhacks on original hardware. The 3DS was updated to block them from working and you need CFW+Luma to disable it.

freeshop installs while you download, so that's the best option. If it's some custom thing like a VC inject or undub there should be a .cia download for it. Only emupoors need to touch .3ds files.

Simple CIA Converter (requires a bit of back-and-forth between the system and a computer) but I think Decrypt9 added CIA conversion tools a while ago so probably nowadays you can just dump the .3ds onto your SD card and convert it all on the one platform. "Just find a cia that already exists" is pretty bad advice if a cia doesn't exist so you want to make one.

it uses the 3ds'es built in hardware to load games and uses homebrew to load the games from the sd card.

I have been playing Xenoblade on my n3ds for 76 hours according to the activity log and im almost at the final boss, but whenever I try to open the game it does not open.

In fact the game just stays on the "Nintendo 3ds" thing and does not start the game. I tried to open the game with FBI but it just leads to a black screen. The same thing happened with Super Ghouls and Ghosts earlier but in that case I didnt give a shit. I did not try reinstalling the game yet because in SGG's case whenever i reinstalled the same issue was there, the game would not start.

Is it my n3ds? Is it my sd card? Any resonable solutions? Please help.

If your 3DS is still fucked you can also try Recovery Menu by holding A+R+L+Up(DPad). That will perform an update. Not sure wither or not A9LH is preserved since I'm not entirely sure if Luma is running over ARM9Loader protecting the FIRM from recovery mode

I was playing an installed and undub Stella Glow on my N3ds, I had a Moon cart on (big mistake now I see) but that never gave me an issue. Not sure why the console decided to think that the game card (Sorry I said sd it was the game card was removed notification) was removed. Since NTR always crash if I panicked and turned off the console since thats the best thing you could do. After that it bricked.

So yeah if you're using NTR watch out you dont get that notification or you might brick.

Update:

Looks like taking out the sd card and putting back again made the console work again but now I have this issue.

If I close the console when I open up again all my stuff gets deleted (Like it goes back to sysnand) and if I close the 3ds the console "soft bricks" again and the only way I saw it got fixed was to remove the sd card again and put it back.

Is there a way to fix that or I only save myself by not closing the 3ds anymore?
