What I love about DMC 1 is that it still has the best Devil Trigger out of the entire series. Moves like Air raid and Meteor were seriously Nerfed in DMC 3, for good reason, but still the DT only moves are tons of fun to uses in DMC1 due to how powerfull they are.

It's good only If you like the humor, but if you do, then It still is as good as ever. Archer, as a series, had no problems doing character development since they really only did that when it was really important to the plot and future episodes. That is why "Archer Vice" kinda worked, and this "Dreamland" is probably the same. Most shows turn to the "status quo" as a default. Some go as far as to make joke about it in show, how they don't want to make the extra effort to make the character development work.
TL;DR: Good supervising editors do matter, a lot.

Still annoys me slightly that Shadow Hearts released here right before Final Fantasy X, yet wasn't considered worth a slot there. I doubt Final Fantasy X really needed the extra hype from there to sell in comparison to the game it already overshadowed tremendously. But yeah, that seemed like a really solid autumn/winter lineup. Good deal of worthy games in a short span of time, and with enough variety that chances are there was something for anyone with the system to look forward to. Shame that sort of line-up doesn't happen much anymore, let alone a worthwhile game even coming out here all that often.

So the game's script is all done as audio only? I can see how that might be more of a pain to hardcode subtitles in, as compared to having existing text boxes and just replacing the Japanese with an English translation within the existing code, or however it normally works for games.

Shining Force 2. What kind of games do you like?

The game is essentially a collection of animated FMVs and audio files, which you explore freely as if you were browsing the web. So you could technically modify the frames of the FMVs to add subs, and do something similar for the audio files, but yeah, harder than normal TL patching. Another idea could be to just rip all the files and rebuild the game using traditional subbing

One change between Shinovi and Estival I don't like is that you can't do the character specific missions before the story missions. I would take time during those missions to learn about a character's core moves and level a little before going into the story with them.
What was enjoyable about Shinovi Versus during last missions the bosses took a steep climb in difficulty. To beat them consistently you needed understand and use almost all of the game mechanics (or just spam secret ninja art). In general these game are really sloppy so I don't know if it just me making use assortment of game mechanics to beat bosses that seem to have unfair advantages or if it was carefully made that way by design.

I should be playing Myst, Grandia, or Kindom Hearts 358/2 Days, but I know I'll probably just shitpost on Holla Forums all night instead.

Snake Pass is…it's hard to say if it's comfy or not. The controls are designed that you have to move like a snake. You "accelerate" by holding the right trigger, and steer the head with the left stick, and lift or lower the head with face buttons. They aren't intuitive at first, but if you can get them down, it becomes fun. But it does take learning. It's an actual original, novel concept, which I didn't think this industry did anymore, but apparently not all hope is lost yet.
So it may or may not be comfy, but I'm glad it exists, which is more than I can say for most vidya this past decade.
