Alunya is too complicated for the average user to draw and throw into memes IMO, which is something that should be essential in a mascot for an anonymous, shitposting imageboard. I think Pepe's simplicity had a significant impact on his spread, as it is easy for anyone who has MS paint to throw Pepe into all sorts of situations.

Alunya is just a face, some hair and a couple ears at minimum. Maybe throw in the bandana or a hat. The whole body is more complex sure, but you don't need all of that. Besides, she doesn't have only one outfit. Pepe is just a frog face.
