What's funny is that it's the only ASSFAGGOTS I've tried that I actually found myself enjoying. I got a solid ~30 hours out of it in 2015 before getting burned out and dropping it. To me, 30 hours of fun with a free game isn't bad at all.

LoL is shit, DotK is shit, HoTs is slightly less shit.
It still has major balance problems (2 of Medivh's abilities can't be countered by anything) and it's quick match system is garbage.
But it's not grindy. It took me a month to unlock 3 heroes in LoL, and a week to unlock 4 in HoTs.
The daily achievements and playing gives you enough in-game money to unlock at least a hero a week.

from what I understand there was actually massive hype going for it but Overwatch and Warcraft being terrible in general sorta pulled the rug out from under it. it was less a celebration of Blizzard's past work and more "yeah, we only do 3 things now and 2 of them are dead!".

This, they just announced they were moving to "Heroes 2.0" What does the 2.0 add you ask?
Well instead of using in game gold and real world dollars as its two currencies, it uses gold, some type of gem you buy with real world currency in inconvenient denominations, and some kind of third currency you only get by deconstructing things you get randomly through the newly added loot boxes.
Instead of unlocking color palettes based on your level with individual characters and having those palettes spread across any skins you get for them, every color+skin combination becomes a separate item you have to buy or unlock or unbox randomly.

What about gameplay changes you ask?
Well there weren't any. Enjoy your new shitty lockbox and freemium currency exchange rate simulator.

Forgot to add that you can roll nearly any team composition.
All healers? Yup.
No healers? Yup.
All nukers? Yup.
No tanks? Yup.

I enjoy playing it with old friends that are good.
Quickmatch is shit though.

well i only really touch smite and hots these days, but its not as if i never had a time where i enjoyed playing dota or lol. but everythings always changing with these games and there arent a whole lot of options in this genre yet. a whole lot of aborted attempts too and what were left with are games that are quite different if after you get down to details.

they can be kind of a pain to get in to as well, some people are certainly adverse to having to learn a second rule set. not to mention they arent earning points towards whatever virtual goodies they want in their game of choice if they do decide to try something else out.
