Nonspecific NIOH Thread

To commemorate our return lets have a Nioh thread so we can talk about the last content update and nerf-a-rama as well as builds and what nots.
Oh and also the upcoming PvP patch.
God help us.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Ninjutsu and Onmyo are actually useful at dealing damage now since they properly scale with your stats.
Respeccing might be in order for some of you.

Honourabaru swrod duels mite b cool.

sword*

The weapons are horribly imbalanced. Spears are ezmode. Watching how easy things were for dsp made me want to vomit.

Also, i've just got past Edo castle in the game, and the only 2 bosses so far who've given me genuine difficulty were Nue and Tachibana

...

Wait until you get to Two Kings.

Any porn of Hino Enma? I'm so pissed at her that fucking slut I just want to cum all over her

Yes actually.

Return of the Gourd was the most fun I've had in a while

How are they "ezmode"? I can't stand them because they feel sluggish as shit.

So how does this game stack up on its own? Worth buying at full price?
Also do we have an ETA on that expansion pack? ,It might be better to hold out for GOTY edition

...

Good God.
Also why Saoirse? I've never been able to get much power out of her.

Her main draw is the free divination, extraction, and pleiades talisman effect when you summon her. Also note that the pleiades effect that comes from her is about 2X stronger than that of a normal pleiades talisman. If you have 99 spirit, a single sword swing plus an onmyo magic shot can fill her gauge while her buffs are active (or a shiriken + magic shot if you don't feel like getting close).

So she allows for nearly immediate and quasi infinite living weapon. Interesting. I'll have to try her.

shamefur dispray

I know I said it before but is really bears repeating.
HOLY SHIT NINJUTSU IS SO FUCKING GOOD NOW!
I am just tearing through shit now, even the new content. It's what it should have been all along.
I've not really fooled with magic but it seems like the elemental shots are pretty devastating now too. If the RNG wasn't so rough in this game I'd make a second save just to run through it again as a mage.

It's only 1 vs 2 if you solo it. And we already have that with the first two dual missions.

I don't understand the trouble so many have had with Muneshige since the demo. Just dodge his charge attacks, which are extremely easy to see coming. Other than that, he's not very dangerous.

Easy to see coming but a very small window to dodge without getting hit. His electricity spirit is a lot more annoying though when it starts bouncing around the stage. Also, there were many times when he smashed me with a combo when his stamina bar was red. But i think the biggest problem is the fight happens at the start of the game, when people don't know what they're doing. The game gets a lot easier afterwards.

I think it bears saying that self buffs got nerfed into the ground too.
So basically carnage/power pills are hilariously useless.

What is best weapon and why is it spear?
What is best spirit guardian and why is it atlus bear?

What are some really good Samurai movies? My father and I watched The Seven Samurai and I want more.

Watch the whole series of Shōgun.
Also, Kurosawa stuff is good, like Ran, Kagemusha, Yojimbo etc.
Throne of Blood is god tier.

The Sword of Doom is the best.

...

Is there any way to get more onmyo and ninja skill points? I'm nearing 99 in both dex and magic and I still have a bunch of skills to learn. And I'm pretty sure I've found all or most locks too.

Unless new quests appear that offer them as a reward or monsters drop locks you can't really do anything else.

I saw the Last Samurai recently, which was pretty good.

Just watched it. That's a pretty bummer ending man. Moral of the story: Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks and banishing family is probably a bad idea.

Did you not know how it was going to end? It was based on King Lear.

I do not watch a lot of movies nor do I read a lot of books, so I'm not familiar with King Lear.
Ah. Feel free to call me an uncultured savage now.

Magic really shines with the debuffs, since you can fuck up anything's speed, defense, and ki regen with talismans. Doubly so if you have the mystic art to cast that shit super quick or make them last longer.

I've heard the live action adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin was good, and I think the animated movie, from the early 2000s, I remember hearing good things about.
Haven't seen them, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on their quality.

What's the best ninjitsu shit now?

The Kenshin animus were pretty great. Samurai X, etc. If we're bringing cartoons into it, Ninja Scroll is a fucking must. Followed by Afro Samurai and Samurai Champloo if you're okay with western influence shitting in the bloodstream.

Kunai and shuriken. Rabbit for power or Bat for unlimited. Bombs are good too now but the shuriken family of jutsu are so fast that they out shine them.

Shame it got nerfed

Holy fuckdick. 10x increase isn't a buff, that's a joke. Going to hop on tonight, looks like too much fun.

You need to take advantage of buffs like "extra piercing damage" and "extra damage against opponents with full HP" and "damage from behind" to get the numbers that high but even without that kunai really very good now. Also weakness talisman.

And if you want to go the onmyo mage route instead you can do this now.

Sword of the Stranger as well

I'm still upset that they made buffs really fucking useless in exchange for "Kunai and shot spam" the game

nice quads. ya, I'm used to the min/max skill buffing. just bizarre they did such a 180 on onmyo/ninja.

now i'm conflicted user. may just check what gear i have and go from there. any word on DLC? (hate saying that, but here we are)

Nerfing the power and duration of Carnage was really bullshit. Carnage was already balanced by the fact that it took your defense away for the ability to do extra damage. I don't know why they messed with it. And power pill could have used a buff not a nerf.
I was OK with the changes to Suzaku and to quick change scrolls.

Ninja is still a bit better than onmyo on an account of that there is no set bonus that works with magic the way that Hanzo's armor works with ninjutsu. That 30% reload after living weapon is just the tits. We need Tenkai's garb or something like that. An entire class of weapons that scale with magic would help too and also one for spirit.
The first one and also the "free" multiplayer update drops near the end of this month. Haven't heard anything else.

Yeah, they really did,too bad invincible living weapon builds are still pretty viable.
Really it's just weird that they nerfed damage for melee then buff ranged.

Holy fuck is that awesome

How many GOTY editions are of games that actually won GOTY?

shilling intensifies

oh thank god

Does thrust damage affect kunai or shuriken? Are kunai better than shuriken? Does that one skill where shuriken damage increases buff kunai?

yes, yes, think so

Yes.
They're more powerful yes but it's good to have shuriken on hand to deal with weaker enemies.
Yes. If buffs all the thrown blades including the two status shuriken and the fire one.

hetero porn is for cucks

Does anyone else think that we might get catbro as an official and usable guardian spirit?
We already have the Vermilion Bird and the Black Tortoise and it looks like we might be getting the Azure dragon at the end of the month. That only leaves the White Tiger…

It's a shame because there's lots of questions I'd want cleared up, and guides for locations of locks, for example.

Also, turns out the new sub-missions may have screwed with the requirements to unlock the Dojo challenges, because you need to complete every mission in a region. At least that seems to be the case in NG+ for a character I created before the most recent patch.

will this game ever come to pc

no bye bi

I might get rid of all the magic in my build then for nioh. I have to respec then. I want to focus on ninja shit. The only things I would rpbably want from magic is the yokai realm stuff.

PS4 emulation will be perfected by the end of the year so SOON™

If you are just farming for texts is there any real benefit to being on Way of the Strong? Texts are purple tier after all.

Never underestimate the usefulness of the guardian spirit talisman.

Maybe NG+ has higher chance of them dropping.

Post rare Tewis

I just wonder how the potential higher drop rate stacks against the slower speed at which you clear a mission in NG+?

Yeah that's the main reason I made the thread. Just as a knowledge share type thing.
Speaking of which did you know that you can get a smithing text for the Pickaxe now? It drops from one of the two mask wearing revenants that spawn in in the wave before Onryoki in "Night Falls Again".

The Pickaxe earns you more gold, right? But I still think the best way to farm money is to complete Demon's Daughter sub-mission.

Yeah it's like a +15% gold drop rate and I think it also has a stat that ups your item drop rate too.

Are any of the slow charged Axe attacks worth it? I haven't tested them all extensively, but so far Rumbling Earth is good to drain the enemy's Ki, and Mad Spinner for an incapacitated enemy or to mow down smaller mobs.
What other Axe skills are a must?

You absolutely need The Adamantine and Intensity if you're going axe. Battle Focus can be helpful too.

Wouldn't Rage be better which increases attack, especially with Gozutenna's Axe equipped?

Well it really depends on what kind of situation you plan to find yourself in. Adamantine for more defense, Battle Focus for more ki, or Rage for pure damage.

Don't listen to these other fucks.
You need Flux and when you can, the skill that swings three times. That's it. Everything else is meant to trade. Just get good and don't get hit instead
Tips would be, start high stance and Flux to low stance. Mid stance is for evadr/dash pokes. The three swing skill is your long punish skill. It deals a large amount of damage and ki damage simultaneously. Don't be reckless with it though

Battle Focus and Rage aren't for trading.
Not getting hit can be difficult since both of the axe armors are heavy. Kaido is so wonderful.

I'm actually using Armor of the Exceptional. Since before the game out, I was already planning an Axe/Spear build because their scaling stats overlap.
The AotE set gives a +20% bonus to skill damage, and 30% bonus to Tornado, which is one of the best Spear skills.

I've also found out Stone Mallet (Axe) is great against human enemies. As soon as you hit them with that skill, do a dodge attack and they'll fall on the ground and you can do a finishing blow on them. Sadly, I can imagine this being nerfed for the sake of PvP.

video related

If you like Stone Mallet you should get yourself an Axe of Judgment. It gives a +20% bonus damage for that particular skill.
My personal goal it to make a light armor Axe Hammer Monk build. I've just about collected everything I need to get myself +10 Yamabushi and Gyousha's. I've already got spirit scaling on my hammers.

First DLC coming May 2nd.

So got the game for free and going in blind what should I know tackling this?

Is this game really like clavells novel? do I get to meet toranaga-sama?

Are you familiar with the SoulsBorne formula? This game is within the same approximate ballpark.
Learn to Ki pulse, it's an active reload on your stamina. Pay attention on what attacks to block and what to dodge. Remember to switch stances as needed. There's dojo training that takes you through these things as well.
IF A HEADGEAR IS NOT PART OF AN OBVIOUS SET NEVER SELL, DISASSEMBLE, OR OFFER IT AT A SHRINE. They are hard to get and 3 or four of them are absolutely unique, you get those ONCE per save file.
Otherwise just learn as you go. The game is forgiving about respeccing so don't be afraid to experiment.

What kind of weapon do like the most?

I'm excited for new weapon classes more than anything else, really.

Yeah I am too. I wonder what they're going to be? I can't really think of anything right off the top of my head that couldn't be subsumed under an existing class. Bo, naginata, and ring staff would function as spears. Kanobo would be axe/hammers. Nagamaki, nodachi, eku would be 1kat.
The only thing I can figure might be flail/nunchaku and some kind of glove type weapon to make bare handed viable.
I do know stat wise that Nioh needs one weapon that scales natively with magic and another one with spirit.

So was the update content really almost fucking nothing new? Just reused characters and levels and yokai? I thought we were going to get an entirely new region in the northern part of the map with new areas, yokai, story, weapons, items, etc. Did I hear a shill somewhere overhyping shit or something? If there's nothing new, they could just recycle characters with different pairings to easily make hundreds of levels, and change the shit out of enemy placement and level blockades to make hundreds more with moderate effort. This update makes me wonder why there isn't some kind of post game arena where you can just pick 1 to X number of humanoid boss enemies at once and get rewards based on their difficulty, the number you fight at once, their level, and whether or not you used co-op. It feels so insubstantial and easily made with little effort from previously existing assets.

Also loot grinding it shit. I just want play this damn action game, not autistically comb over hundreds of pieces of equipment to find the one that has X ability or the best numbers. That shit should be reserved for a different genre of game.

Oh wait, it's going to be buyable DLC that contains the new content I heard about? Well damn. I thought we were supposed to have been getting a based update. Most of my post still stands however as criticism of the update.

There's a bigger update coming on May 2nd.
famitsu.com/news/201704/10130735.html

Apparently, this says, among other things:

...

Should've said DLC, my bad.

I just thought of a weapon I'd like to see. Those dual Saika clan revolvers.

No the free update was always just going to be tryhard boss gauntlet missions. You're thinking of the 3 DLCs that are coming out.
I rather agree with this. Especially the smithing text drops. Those are egregiously rare. At least once you get them though you no longer have to worry about random drops. The hard mission do add a bunch of new smithing texts and make it easier for you to obtain some of the old ones too so it's not a complete loss.

They better be way more substantial than the update or be very cheap if they're trying to break the northern region content into three parts.

I honestly would have liked another strength/stamina weapon. A greatsword can still differ greatly from 1kat, or maybe a weapon that doesn't have a blade, like a Kanabo/great mace.

forgot pics

Wouldn't fall under hammers?

It really depends how I feel the game flows so I don't know. What's important though is how varied are the move sets in a weapon type? Is it all the same with some stat changes\different model or are there actually some special movesets like in Muh Souls?

But yeah I think I'll probably do something either balanced speed\power wise or go directly for something I can knock motherfuckers out of the park with depending on how I feel when I get going.

Shit I also forgot one more important bit. How much content is blocked, or atleast obstructed, by not having access to online play? I might have a fucking Bloodborne machine but I'm not suckered in enough to pay for online when I'm already paying my ISP

None of it except clan shit, the mostly cosmetic rewards it gives, and fighting peoples corpses. There are some NPC type corpses to fight. The non-cosmetic rewards from clan shit can be earned without it.

also

Anyone know how to get the Visitor's dragon armor? I've only gotten the kabuto from killing revenants.

You can still see and fight other people's corpses without ps plus

I just assumed anything that required an internet connection wold require PSPlus. It's good to see games that don't go full jew like that despite having the opportunity.

Yeah i think the only thing that's paywalled is summoning

I don't think there is a Visitor's Dragon set, just a kabuto afaik. Same with the Lucky Tanuki and bear kabutos, I believe.

That's the only one of the set. That helmet is a JP dlc item.

Ah right, thanks. That'll save me some trouble.

What were you thinking Team Ninja?
To be fair only Onryoki, the Onibaba, and those big one eyed bastard are "real" oni but still…

Just an fyi the way you can tell if a particular head gear is part of a set or not is to look at how it's named. Headgear that's part of a set will be named- [armor set] : [type of head gear].
Examples-
Onmyo Mage's Suikan: Eboshi
Yamabushi Apparel: Tokin
Thief Armor: Mengu
Warrior of the West: Kabuto

Those that aren't part of a set have no colon in their name.
Examples-
Shugo-daimyo's Eboshi
Tengu Visor
Takezo's Headband
Warrior Monk's Hood
Bellflower Kabuto

So managed to blunder through the first level and beat the shit out of the boss, Living Weapon really seems a bit powerful but something tells me the enemies will have a counter to that later.
So far a decent game, I'm surprised by the total lack of loading time between deaths during levels so that certainly makes it less frustrating when I get my ass handed to me by the big Oni fuckers (Been using dual blades and axes pretty much exclusively). Pretty entertaining and I have hopes for the rest of the game.

Also have to note how all the low levels revenants are wearing the golden armor, but what a bunch of pussies. I've just been using what I could scrounge around.

Not exactly but you do have to keep putting levels into spirit in order for your spirits to keep up with enemies. Not to mention that later spirits require require higher and higher spirit to unlock their passives.
There's a real diversity of spirits that cover a wide range of uses. Try to play around with them and find out which ones benefit your play styles the most.
Also you should learn the guardian spirit talisman onmyo jutsu as soon as you can. It is the most versatile and powerful spell in the game even taking into account how much elemental shots got buffed in the last update.

Really? I wouldn't have figured they would have had enough kappa shells to make their own.

You get the armor for free if you completed the beta.

I forgot about that. I was only thinking of the smithing text.
No the gold armor was a free gift for everyone to commemorate 1 million worldwide sales.
I went through most of NG+ with my crafted divine set of Gold Nioh. I just like the way it looked and it aesthetically matches pretty well with a few of the weapons too, particularly Haja and the Bellowing Tenryu

I'll probably get this game for Christmas, after all patches and such. I never really got into the alpha and beta though.

Great sword confirmed for new DLC!
blog.eu.playstation.com/2017/04/12/story-details-on-niohs-upcoming-dlc-update-dragon-of-the-north/

Very nice.

I think I read somewhere that everyone will be able to get both these sets in the upcoming DLC.

I wish there was a way to distinguish between different save files besides play time and date.

fuck off you cunt

May as well demand a Banana Clan, man, damn.
