I agree that illegal immigrants are willing to work for lower wages especially even under the minimum because they face the threat of deportation and so on. However, I don't buy that regular immigrants follow this same logic of accepting the lowest wage. They had the capital to move legally in the first place, and since they can move freely do not necessarily have to accept the lowest paying jobs there are.

I doubt they don't understand, It's probably more that they don't care, since any offending actions they take are fully legal and to their personal benefit, and not doing so personally would not meaningfully affect the problem, but it would directly and meaningfully affect their finances.
