Definitive Socialist Video Games Thread

Hey, I'm planning to make a video on opinionstube with this topic so that nobody will have to make this topic again, but bear with me one last time to gather material! Help me come up with the definitive list.

My current list (I forgot them all):

Liberal Crime Squad
Hostile Waters
Deus Ex

what else?

Ah, of course, Hidden Agenda, Crisis in the Kremlin, the Tropico series (sorta).

Dwarf Fortress it's pretty much what communism will look like when finally implemented in the world.

Dark Souls
Metal Gear Solid

I wonder if I should include anti-capitalist games or do a separate list for them. That really opens the field up a lot more to include Bioshock and Cyberpunk and the like. So sure, I'm interested in those too.

MGS I can see but Dark Souls?

...

Dark Souls is all about dialectics

...

Just play it my dude, it's basically a Symbionese Liberation Army simulator

I've never played it so I have no idea if you're trolling, if not please explain?…

Also, the current list

Marxist games:

Liberal Crime Squad
Hostile Waters
Deus Ex
Metal Gear Solid
Hidden Agenda
Crisis in the Kremlin
Tropico Series
Dwarf Fortress

Anti-capitalist games:
GTA series
Bioshock
Syndicate Wars

Victoria II

Good shout, also wondering if I should include games where you play as the USSR like Wargame, Red Orchestra, and HOI.

The gods in dark souls (the bourgeoisie) took power in an age of fire, but the fire is fading and this will usher in the age of dark, the age of humans (the working class) the gods are desperately trying to avert this and hold on to power

The game is essentially about different ages, each one creating the conditions for its demise

youtube.com/watch?v=ylFzJ3wRgHw

GTA is anti-late-capitalist-consumer-culture without understanding its origin.

Bioshock is anti-Randian-ancapism.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree they're liberal rather than outright revolutionary but they're still entertaining, that's why I figure they might be worth a separate video.

Also add Spec Ops to that list.

really makes me think

The NSF are basically leftist revolutionaries from the rust belt and the bad guys are the neoliberal world capitalist institutions who create a virus to sell a cure. Plus one of the endings is outright transhuman-socialist and one of the others is arguably anarcho-communist.

But Deus Ex doesn't treat race as a spook so it's a porky game.

Spec Ops? That really seems like a stretch. Can you explain?

Most game writers are wary of neoliberal and imperialist thinking.

The main exception is CoD which is basically neocon porn.

With Spec Ops I meant more like anti imperialist of course, it's a pretty clear criticism of the Iraq war among other things

Never played it too much. I always got stuck when it was time to get production going for exporting, and forming an army.
Didn't it have nobles?

Dwarf Fortress, Liberal Crime Squad, and Hidden Agenda are actually games which I prefer to watch others play.

I found this guy playing Hidden Agenda to be quite insightful.
youtube.com/watch?v=XOQ8euH4NBI

Oh well if you're including anti-imperialism there are probably other games along those lines, any where you play as the underdog against an evil empire would do.

Not in Fortress Mode IIRC, but in the histories for sure. Come to think of it, since DF simulates a huge history for your world, it would be entirely possible to explicitly incorporate historical materialism which would be neat.

White phosphorous is a common allotrope used in your slaughter at the Gate. It can set fire to soldiers and the innocent civilians they are trying to help.

A game takes on all of the philosophy of dialectics and politics I've seen mentioned or discussed on Holla Forums is Destiny.

Just look up Myelin Games on youtube, with his extensive construction of the Destiny Grimoire.

Or for a more traditional novel approach check Destiny fansite The Istar Collective

Bungie treated the lore of the game, like a distribution of D&D lore, but the actual content of Destiny reads just like plot devices taking on dialectics epistemology in nature.

It's pretty damn interesting if you give it a chance

Obviously I have to put some limits on that but an overt criticism of US policy is worthy of inclusion to me and seems sufficiently leftist.

If you're going to include it you should also consider how it criticizes video games and surrounding culture as propaganda that romanticizes war, since that's its focus.

Hey there's this - Crisis Theory. It's a very simple simulation of capitalism that illustrates its instability. Does it count? There was a thread for it the other day. It's hard to be more definitively socialist than this.

colestia.itch.io/crisis-theory

There was that game linked on here a couple of days ago. Thread might still be up.
Crisis theory I think?

What about that tankie VN

Oh yeah Everlasting Summer. Well it doesn't really mention socialism much from what I remember but hell might be worth putting on, I don't know.

Bampu

Anyone else got any ideas?

I seem to recall nobles existing in fortress mode. I also recall /tg/ coming up with hilariously complex ways of killing the nobles.

For shame.

if wintards and macfags all died there would be world peace

such deep insight

Good shout, Red Faction is on there for sure, I haven't played the FF games, can you outline why they're on there briefly? I know in FF7 you fight an evil corporation or something.

Perfect Dark (Zero)
Destroy All Humans!
Jet Set Radio (Future)
Any Call of Duty WWII game
The whole story of the Resident Evil franchise is basically revolved around anti-capitalism (Dead Rising series as well, ESPECIALLY DR2)

They wouldn't go under the Marxist category, but FF7 has a lot of anti-capitalist themes, specifically about how capitalism is destroying the environment, but it's more than just that. In FF7's universe, the Shinra Electric Power Company isn't just any evil corporation. It's a cyberpunk megacorp that basically owns everything. It's officially an energy company, but its activities run the gamut from civilian and military vehicle production to media to genetic engineering, and it controls what little government there is in the game as well. Tactics couldn't even be said to have capitalism by the proper definition of the word, as it takes place in a feudal society, but the theme of the rich versus the poor is constant in its storyline. If you want to know why those games deserve to be here, the best way to find out is to play them yourself. At least watch a walkthrough on YouTube. They're both well-written. FF7 has acquired something of a hatedom because of its insane popularity, and it's an odd case in that a lot of its fans only really like it because of spinoff material like Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children, but it's worth a play.

This is another odd case. Call of Duty was never really anti-capitalist, but up until the first Modern Warfare it did maintain an atmosphere of the futility of war. However, it acquired a legion of dumbass rah-rah-America fucktard fans and became a propaganda machine for the military-industrial complex. Battlefield is pretty bad about that as well.

Sadly, a lot of the games mentioned here are owned by companies that have done some questionable business practices, like MGS and FF (Konami screwed Kojima out of his own series so they could make pachinko, and Square-Enix partnered with Disney and Coca-Cola, two of the most unethical companies of all time), but it's worth noting that back when the classic games were made, said companies were better about that, and their games were generally better as well. Square-Enix was even a different company, Squaresoft, back in those days. Capitalism has done a lot to ruin videogames. It might be worth including a brief section about that, and about what the most pro-capitalist games like CoD and BF do differently from the anti-capitalist games. To be somewhat fair to Square-Enix, most Americans don't know how awful Disney and Coca-Cola are, so it's much less likely that anyone in Japan would. It's possible that they had never heard of said companies' misdeeds.

I've heard people say that the Oddworld games have anti-capitalist material in them, but I wouldn't know because I've never played them.

Kojima retweeted that Meryl Streep anti-Trump speech.
Holla Forums went ballistic.

Holla Forums is so fucking retarded that they think MGS is right-wing and unironically praise Armstrong.

Link? I want to see that.

OP, you also need to do something about how the alt-right have tried to co-opt MGS when it's blatantly fucking obvious that MGS is not a nationalist series and never once portrays nationalism in a positive light.

Sadly the Holla Forums thread got purged and there is no archive.
I'm thinking on posting it on the GG thread for shits and giggles.
On a unrelated note, Billy Herrington is a Bernie Bro

They did this fucking gem because "here's to you" was on MGSV

How could anyone think kojima was right wing my god, the whole thing as anti nuke and pacifist

Armstrong is the animu version of your typical strongman politician. It shouldn't be surprising that right wingers love him. Part of the package is charisma, even centrists and left-leaning people can at least see the appeal. Lots of people are eager to fall in line behind someone who looks like he has his shit together better than they do.

Minecraft proofs communism is the best mode of production

Jesus fucking christ. I mean it's not like those games are very anticapitalist or even explicitly political, but Ground Zeroes literally opens with a fucking classic anarchist song.

It's impossible to get this shit confused unless you're putting actual mental effort into shoehorning any random fun thing you like into your dipshitted perspective. It's real doublethink bullshit.

This type of shit is such a good example of what Zizek means when he talks about ideology, you could use it in a lecture.

This kind of shit makes me so angry, i can't laugh at it because i know they are serious.

Oh shit there's actually this commie minecraft clan/server/thing minecraftforum.net/forums/servers/clans/545804-the-socialist-commune-of-minecraft-the-oldest

Kind of autistic, but it seems like they at least partially understand theory.

Ground Zeros is about rescuing a sandinista from a US torture camp as well lel

Do it, I want to see the reactions. Hopefully OP can get this video to several million views and then make a followup video featuring all the butthurt comments the right-wingers left on the first one.

Also, this isn't really related to videogames directly, but god damn, MatPat and his crew are faggots. That video where they said the Federation from Star Trek is fascist is probably the dumbest analysis of any fictional work I've ever seen.

Wow such a strong masculine figure, what an inspiration to nationalists everywhere lefties totes btfo ;🍀🍀🍀) suk it sjaydubya CUCKKs

I really wish Holla Forums was big enough to have its own videogames board

Big Boss eventually turns into someone who isn't so admirable, though, but during the time he's considered a hero he doesn't have any beliefs that a right-winger would admire. Solid Snake starts out as more of a mercenary, but he eventually does find ideals to fight for, and nationalism isn't one of them.

Armstrong is much more interesting because Holla Forums idolizes him in spite of the fact that he gets BTFO by Raiden both rhetorically and physically. There was some Holla Forums post that got screencapped about how Armstrong is a hypocrite because he fights exclusively for his own interests and he'd have no notable powers without his money. Raiden, on the other hand, was a strong fighter even before he became a cyborg, having been trained by Solid Snake, the best human soldier in the world. Even without that, you'd think that Holla Forums would have realized something was wrong when Trump came out in support of internet censorship, the very thing that the Patriots base all their power on. Then again, since Holla Forums is full of people who hate normalfags, maybe they feel like society deserves the Patriots. And let's be real about it, normalfags have fucked up a lot. Normalfags tend to believe establishment propaganda more easily and that's how society got to be such shit in the first place.

Why do they have a problem with South-Europeans? Aren't they white?

Liberals would like to enforce a narrative in which the free speech "debate" is one where people like us "radicals" would simply remove contrary opinions rather than defeat them "fairly" in the field of debate (propaganda). It is not so.

The fascist movement is nothing unique at all, it is simply generic authoritarianism backed by populism. Fascists always fight for the same thing: enforced or reinstated authority, and they'll use literally ANYTHING to garner popular support for that. Much like capitalism, which enforces its superstructure by enfolding its own criticism through undiscriminating commodification, fascism enforces its ideology by folding often contradictory media, language, and people into its undiscriminating perspective.

In this way, it is impossible to beat fascists in debate or propaganda because in the long term they will simply seize your best criticism and satire and claim it was always their own invention.

They Live! then becomes a warning about "jewish infiltration"

Metal Gear Solid then becomes a rallying call for strong male figures of authority and nationalism

Here's To You then becomes, inexplicably, a song lamenting the downfall of Nazi Germany

There's /leftyweebpol/ and /leftyb/ for offtopic stuff like that. Unfortunately people don't give a shit and post offtopic nonsense here instead. Really agitates my cerebrum.

I also wish for /leftyweebpol/ to not be dead.
This season has been great so far, especially compared to the shitty fall season, and the nazi loli salaryman show seems to be a trainwreck so far.

We are shrodinger's whites.
White as driven snow, or half-arab subhumans, depending on he circumstances.
More or less the same happens with slavs.

I keep asking the BO to put those boards on the top bar so people can know they exist but he never does it.

There's the link to other leftist Holla Forums boards, which makes sense in that it would always link to boards tagged as leftist, but in practice who's going to click on that and look through a list on a new page vs. just looking at a list on the top banner?

Not to say clicking on that link brings you a "This script is Disabled temporarily" message.

They can only get away with that if you don't point out that that's what they're doing. There needs to be an organized effort to smack down the right's efforts to subvert anti-establishment culture, and it needs to go far beyond videogames.

Those boards are superfluous. We should be able to do that stuff on regular Holla Forums, regular Holla Forums, regular /a/ and others. Before the second exodus, whenever you had a thread about politics in media on those boards you'd get a wide variety of perspectives. Even Holla Forums wasn't as bad back then, because even though it wasn't sympathetic to socialism, they hadn't yet become a full-on dissent squashing hug box. The second exodus made it into right-wing Tumblr though. /a/ isn't as bad because they banned all political discussion from any side, but Holla Forums just went completely to shit. Boards like /tg/ and /k/ have had similar things happen. If we dismantle the alt-right trolls elsewhere, the effects may eventually reach back here. They're already starting to fragment the more Trump betrays them. Maybe one day, fun will be allowed again.

What the fuck is that? I don't keep myself up to date with anything like what the newest anime/manga series are

I still believe there have to be more examples! Help me comrades!

Marxist games:

Liberal Crime Squad
Hostile Waters
Deus Ex
Metal Gear Solid esp Peace Walker
Hidden Agenda
Crisis in the Kremlin
Tropico Series
Dwarf Fortress
Red Faction

Anti-capitalist/imperialist games:

GTA series
Bioshock
Syndicate Wars
Spec Ops: The Line
FF7
FF Tactics
Dead Rising 1 + 2

Questionable:

Victoria II
Hearts of Iron
Red Orchestra
Call of Duty 1-5
Dark Souls
Everlasting Summer
Wargame
Red Alert
Adventure Communist

So they love Hitler, but Russia & Poland and the like are not placed in the non-white subhuman category. Do they even know what Hitler intended?

A game where Planned Economy is objectively the greatest economic system to ever grace the earth and only a fucking retard would ever go for laissez-faire capitalism has got to be anti-capitalist.

I don't know of any more examples, but those are some nice trips you've got there. Besides, that's a huge list of games. What you've got now should be more than enough for one video.

Civ is pretty marxist

also good numbers

How is FF Tactics anti-imperialist? I mean it's one of my favorite games, but the story is about nobles in war with each other for the throne.

Because all the nobles are portrayed as total jackasses waging a meaningless war where the real losers are the people.

l i t t l e m o n e y

Lmao, link?

Also, Peace Walker has you helping the Nicaraguan Sandanistas and it has Kaz and Big Boss gushing over Che

Play KoTOR 2

…Red Dead Redemption? In the same vein as GTA. The plot is essentially that a government agent coerces the protagonist to mop up the frontier so the new world can move in.

Also there's a "revolution" in Mexico and the strongman victor immediately becomes the same as the guy he overthrew.

Is the rebel alliance in Star Wars considered leftist? If so, Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2 if you play as the rebels.

Not according to the greatest socialist thinker of our age comrade philgreaves01

Everyone in Star Wars is shit, especially the Republic/rebels. They're some kind of bizarre crypto-theocracy.

I'll say they are, because then I could meme that space fascist capital ships are weak against space commie corvettes that are 4000 years old.

Mother 3 has a pretty anti-capitalist theme, and is even kinda anarchist.
There are plenty of things to be said about this one, but basically, early in the game, a man introduce money, some sort of weird hypnotic "TVs" called Happy Boxes, and factory work to a small community where people used to work according to their abilities and the needs of the community.
Here is a detailed analysis of the game which at some point expand on this theme better than I could : socksmakepeoplesexy.net/index.php?a=mother3

I can't think of other games like that right now. Xenogears has a kind of anti-imperialist theme going on with Solaris IIRC, but I'm not sure if I would include it on this list since the primary theme of the game is more related to existentialist philosophy and stuff like that.

What's that from? I like watching grunts absolutely wreck expensive military hardware for some inexplicable reason.

Not everyone in the Rebellion believe that force crap

Rouge One, the new Star Wars movie

Oh nvm thought maybe it was a fan film.

There are tons of great Star Wars games out there, but none of them are particularly leftist. The closest ones would probably be the two KotOR games because of Czerka Corporation's fuckery. One of the loading screens for the first KotOR says that Czerka polices themselves because they're too large for the Republic to monitor, and the KotOR comics hint at the Republic being a corporatocracy, but Czerka doesn't have the kind of massive storyline presence that corps like Shinra or Umbrella have. Ultimately Czerka loses relevance long before the end of the game in both entries as the threat of the Sith becomes paramount.

I'm planning to make a papers please style game about holocaust and gulags.
when playing as nazi i'd show it excessively brutal and gloomy to make people feel bad, but as a commie i would make gulags look better than western prisons, which they were

Whoever made this video will vanish in a bomb explosion if the FLNC were to ever find this.

Make a western prison bonus level.

It's basically on the same level of quality as a fan film, except that the people who make nu-Star Wars obviously aren't fans of the old stuff, so it really doesn't even rise to that level. Episode 7 is the same way.

Yeah true, I just don't want to miss an obvious one and have people be like "hey what about X".

Wow, that is dumb, they collapse like tissue paper. At least they should have like 'overloaded the engines' or some excuse to go faster and slam them rather than push against it, I'm pretty sure two modern battleships wouldn't just squash each other if you lightly pushed them into each other. Geez. I know I know 'it's a merchandise-seller blockbuster' but come on.

This
It starts out in high stats and gets shittier as it becomes more and more about profits

read Kropotkin

From what I understand, it does have nobles, but they exist purely to make idiotic, often-impossible demands for luxury goods and then demand that you punish hardworking dwarves for failing to appease their whims.

'Final' (unless I think of anything else) list if anyone cares:

Marxist games:

Liberal Crime Squad
Hostile Waters
Deus Ex 1 + 2
Metal Gear Solid esp Peace Walker
Hidden Agenda
Crisis in the Kremlin
Tropico Series
Dwarf Fortress (you gotta kill the nobles tho)
Red Faction
Hearts of Iron + Kaiserreich
Victoria II
Everlasting Summer
Red Orchestra
Gesta Final (find download)
Guerrilla War (NES game play as Castro)
World in Conflict, Red Alert, Wargame (combine into one entry?)
Men of War, Company of Heroes (combine into one entry?)
Twilight Struggle
Balance of Power? (Play and see)
Neocolonialism (try it and see)
Red Orchestra, Call of Duty 1-5 (combine into one entry?)
Adventure Communist (Joke mention I guess)
Democracy 3 (democratic socialist/social democrat but still pretty good)
Papers Please (anti comm of course but honourable mention, work it into a joke)
Soviet City (ditto above but far worse)

Anti-capitalist/imperialist games:

GTA series
Bioshock 1 + Infinite
Syndicate Wars (or just cyberpunk in general)
Spec Ops: The Line
FF7
FF Tactics
Dead Rising 1 + 2
Mother 3
Haze
Star Wars Republic Commando (?) Play and see
Borderlands
No Pineapple Left Behind
Thief Series (Play and see)
Ace Combat Zero (Pixy)
Gods Will Be Watching
Prison Architect

Thank you for helping me get rich from that sweet youtube ad revenue that I will surely get from this super popular video :^)

Awesome game, but doesn't really have anything to do with leftism. I wouldn't focus on it. If you're going to be making a video you need to focus on the biggest titles with the most notable leftist material.

That will be a separate video if I do it since none of those ones are explicitly pro-leftist but more just generally critical, but I seem to remember Republic Commando had themes about the disposability of soldiers and the general futility of war, but I might be misremembering it, I'll play it first anyhow.

I might have to split up the Marxist video into multiple parts anyway especially if I cover all the titles up there.

Not really

Absolutely. It's worth a look, but not as a major feature. Stuff like MGS, GTA, FF7, Deus Ex, Bioshock, that's where you should direct most of your effort. Though I'll temper that by saying that Liberal Crime Squad is too damn good not to at least mention. I did a playthrough of it where I basically played it MGS-style using my main character to sneak everywhere and mess with everyone, and ended with zero people killed. Great game that deserves a sequel or expansion of some sort. Anything quirky like that ought to at least get a brief look, if for no other reason than to let people know about it.

What do you guys think about Metro 2033/Last Light?

To be fair you could argue that it's just the weightless nature of space that allowed the Corvette to do that. The only kind of counter-argument that I could think of is bringing up how the ships manage to be so close the planet without being pulled in, meaning that they'd have to have something powerful to keep them in place other than the thrusters

I remember there being fascist in that game being scum but weren't the commies also scum? I forget that game besides it being spooky at parts.

Bumping so people who came here from RDW's video will see this. They might have more contributions for you, OP.

Everytime until you play them

Gag

ACZ is on the list, forgot about Getting Up, but good shout

Also I remembered something for the 'outright revolutionary' list…

youtube.com/watch?v=p2t-Kx2jPiI

This one is also good for those market anarchism feels

Sorry to bump again, but does anyone know a good recording software? I'd like to take my own footage where I can but I don't know what to use.

obsproject.com/
Also Nvidia shadowplay if you have a nvidia card.

Talking about Final Fantasy, FFXIV's 2.0>2.55 storyline and starting campaign in the desert city (and the desert city in general) are mainly about porkies being porkies.
Sadly I don't think it deserves a mention because the storyline in question had the most bullshit ending I have ever seen, and I don't think it will ever get a good conclusion.

What the fuck am I looking at?

The best game ever. Shoot conservative scum, kidnap them and torture them into revolutionaries, or seduce them and make them your love slaves forever.

If you convert them fast enough you can send them back to their jobs and they'll work for you as sleeper agents.

KEK

Well obviously the whole game is semi satirical, you also fight for animals' right to vote, doesn't mean it's not still fun

LMAO ok now I definitely have to play this

The Red Line was your typical Stalinist caricature. In the book there are actually commies though

I've made a clan chat for leftypol users in OSRS/RS3 (icky)

It's simply "Leftypol"

Prison Architect. its a critique of Liberterain Idealogy. all about abusing the shit out of your prisoners for maximum profit. It definitely paints this in a bad image and despite its simplistic graphics manages to drive its message home. very good game IMO.

Just noticed it already got mentioned, fuck

I just played neocolonialism, it sucks, barely a game. I dunno whether to put it on the Marxist or Anti-capitalist list (since it doesn't mention Marxism) but it'll be near the bottom anyway.

mercenaries 2, I feel. It's set in an alternate universe. The main antagonist is a porky that comes to power in Venezuela in a military coup. Factions you can work for include an American oil company with a private army that is portrayed as very corrupt, whom you can utterly destroy by the end, Marxist guerrillas in the hills that fight the oil company and the new government. Later in the game the country gets invaded by a coalition led by the US, and counter invaded by a parallel universe China that actually happens to be communist. You can support either one against the other. The US coalition's main concern is shown to obviously be the oil reserves, while the Chinese faction is shown to be much more genuine in a desire to actually help Venezuelans. By the end, the other faction's army in the country has been mostly destroyed and it's implied that WW3 is about to erupt. In the game you can basically chose to be an soulless dirt bag supporting American foreign interests for money or killing oil mercenaries and US troops on behalf of communist groups, which is something I'd never expect a video game to allow you to do. Game came out in 2008. Played it to fucking bits.

I like that game but I don't think the Chinese are really showed to be much better than the Americans, I was considering it and Just Cause 2 though (also has a commie faction).

Different browser, real flag.

I've been testing OBS on RE6 to get the right settings, it's looking good now at about 1gb per 7 minutes or so of raw footage. Which is okay I guess.

I guess I'll start recording for real later today. Feeling a bit ill right now, I think it might be the cold or something.

If you get animal rights laws to L+, you can seduce dogs. Otherwise try talking to guard dogs when animal rights is at L and you can convince them to turn liberal and attack their masters or recruit them.

The Legend of the Liberal Crime Squad
—————————————————————-

(This section is adapted from the Wikipedia article on the Symbionese Liberation Army, and serves as background for the 'inspiration' for LCS. If it's too serious for you, just skip it – we don't take the game seriously, either, so no worries.)

On Febuary 4, 1974, the Symbionese Liberation Army, an American self-styled urban gurrilla warfare group kidnapped 19-year-old media heiress Patricia Hearst as she and her 26-year-old boyfriend, Steven Weed, sat relaxing in their Berkeley, California home.

Their goal was to negotiate the release of two of their members, Joseph Remiro and Russell Little, who were just convicted and given life sentences for assassinating a popular school superintendant over his support for what they considered to be a "facist" plan to introduce identification cards. This proved impossible to negotiate, and the F.B.I. searched unsuccessfully for the S.L.A. as they took refuge in "safehouses" and the kidnapping captured regional, then world attention.

What was so spectacular about this kidnapping was not so much the prominence of the victim, but her response. The S.L.A. released taped recordings of Hearst reading their demands, and with each tape they released, she voiced increasing support for her captors. Eventually, she firmly renounced her former life and family, and declared that when the S.L.A. offered her the choice of going free or joining them, she chose to join them. She would even take a new name: Tania.

On April 15, 1974, S.L.A. members burst into a branch of The Hibernia Bank at 1450 Noriega Street in San Francisco. Security camera footage of pictured Patricia Hearst, Tania, holding a rifle and yelling commands. Two civilians were shot, and the S.L.A. made off with over $10,000.

Unable to recruit any would-be revolutionaries in the Bay Area, the S.L.A. moved to Los Angeles in hopes of finding more supporters, but the move was sloppy, and the group resorted to commandeering housing and supplies from the people of Los Angeles, thus alienating the people they relied upon for secrecy and protection. Imprisoned S.L.A. member Russell Little declared that they had lost sight of their goals, and were entering a confrontation with the police rather than engaging in a dialogue with the people.

On 16 May 1974, S.L.A. codenames Teko and Yolanda entered Mel's Sporting Goods Store in Inglewood, California, to shop for supplies for their safehouse. While Yolanda made the purchases, Teko on a whim tried to shoplift, and was caught by a security guard. Following a brief confrontation, codename Tania, on lookout from across the street, opened fire on the store's sign, forcing everyone inside to take cover, and allowing the other members to escape.

Police tracked them to their safehouse, and they were forced to abandon it and commandeer a new one from unwilling occupants in the dead of the night, storming a home with massive amounts of guns and ammunition in tow. The next day, a woman called the police to tell them that people with guns were staying at her daughter's house. That afternoon, more than 400 L.A.P.D. officers, along with the F.B.I., California Highway Patrol, and Los Angeles Fire Department surrounded the neighborhood. After a two-hour gun battle between S.W.A.T. teams outside and the S.L.A. inside, the house caught fire and all six S.L.A. members inside were killed. Tania, Teko, and Yolanda were in hiding elsewhere, and were not among the dead.

The manhunt for Patricia Hearst and the remainder of the S.L.A. continued, and after over a year of continued movement and additional S.L.A. actions, she was captured. She claimed to have been drugged and brainwashed, and identified the remainder of the S.L.A. members. She was convicted for her part in the bank raid, and the S.L.A. dissolved.

The revolution failed.

But that was then…

Pic is my high score

just remembered Death to Spies. You play as a Soviet spy during WW2 killing a bunch of Nazis and shit. In fact most Russian games about WW2 are pretty positive.

I'm including games where you play as the Soviets (as one of many factions) in kind of compilation entries on the list, I've never played Death to Spies, does it really have any good content or is it just WW2 Hitman?

Well it basically is, however it generally portrays the Soviets in a pretty favourable light.

Good to see its late addition to your list

Well if you going to add 'anti comm' games, then add a 'pro-imperialist' one. 'Conflict: Middle East Political Simulator'

pic related

Dude it was one of the first ones I put on, w/e bro.

Also, I'm only gonna add games that directly mention Marxism/the USSR as jokes, if this video is successful I might do a 'reactionary games' one. Good suggestion for that.

Now finished filming:

Neocolonialism
Adventure Communist

Sorry my bad, just had a look.

'Republic: The Revolution', you mentioned that? A game set in a fictional post-Soviet collapse 'former republic'. Its not a good as it should of been but theres something there thats worth salvaging.

And 'KGB'/'Conspiracy'

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KGB_(video_game)

Oh god, I tried playing Republic: The Revolution years ago and it was so shitty that I decided not to even mention it. Plus you can't really play as a Marxist anyway.

KGB looks interesting, I'll give it a look.

Also, does anyone know where the fuck I can get a download of the Cuban game 'Gesta Final'? I don't know if it's anywhere on the internet.

cuba don't exactly have the internet so i'd say it's unlikely

A lot of games mentioned here involve hammers and sickles in some way, sure, but few mentioned so far are actually "Marxist" in any sense. For that, I highly recommend COrn: The Game of Classical Political Economy. It's still in alpha though.

Hearts of Iron: Darkest Hour with the Kaiserreich mod is my definitive Leftist game.

Does Super Mario Bros. in general still count? It does have a guy taking down one monarch to save another monarch, but both Mario and Luigi are working class proletariats and raise red stars over castles they take over.

Yeah, I find this current trend very unsettling. The right is attempting to present itself as the norm or the "default," a defense against the erosion of traditionalism as well as a defense agaisnt the rise of PC culture. They've been using a variety of methods to achieve this, like appropriating Enlightenment vocabulary and philosophy. It's very creepy, in a way.

...

Obviously the ones where you just play as the USSR as one of many other factions will go near the bottom of the list but I think they're worth including because ya know, it's fun to fuck up the Nazis/Americans sometimes.

I'll take a look at that game though.

Ummm, I don't think that's a very good choice, man.

If you think that's bad

is it undialectical if I kinda like this

we should do one for reddit socialism

Yes, very.
Now you need to listen to 40 minutes of Leafy as pennance

someone make leftyv

Jesus, I'm not that penitent.

I'm playing Everlasting Summer right now, it's cute I guess. Don't really know what part to put in the video though except for the animated bit at the start. Eh I'll figure it out. I might put it a little higher than I was originally planning just since there's a clear nostalgia/longing.

Early Fallout seemed to have an anti-mass consumerism type thing going for it, modern ones too although to a lesser extent.

Okay okay, another one for the list, jeez there's too many now.

Filming done:
State of Emergency

wot. Good taste, though.

We can rewrite it.

I kinda like how arch-conservative police laws give you right wing death squads
The "firemen" are sweet too
goddamn that interface and those menus though

I honestly find the game easier to play when it's arch-conservative. Your fighters have nothing to lose, and are also much more likely to be summarily executed instead of giving up information.

Very well but don't forget if you let the supreme court, house, and senate remain arch-conservative long enough (or because you didn't influence public opinion strongly enough) they pass legislation that amends the constitution where the US becomes the Confederate States of America where Ronald Reagan is King for life; also influences issues lower than arch-conservative rating (which you don't experience because if this happens you lose the game anyway and the LCS disbands);

Explain please. The only thing I remember vaguely supporting that claim is maybe the bartender in Hong Kong claiming that a strong government is a good thing.

Sorry guys not much progress cause I've been sick since Friday. Played red faction guerrilla some though.

I personally haven't played these games yet, but going by Noah Caldwell-Gervais' analysis of the series, Mafia 1, 2 and 3 are pretty woke af, fams

Goddammit youtube.com/watch?v=0lestiMZ4qk

I notice you've been shitposting here for quite some time anfag, why is that?

That was mostly a joke suggestion as it isn't playable but I find it interesting. Here's the devblog which explores some marxist vidya concepts: pldevelopment.blogspot.com/

Less ill now so work will resume shortly

What kind of civics do you guys think Lenin would have?

What is this mod, and why is it not Caveman2Cosmos?

I need to go back and play Civ 4. Civ 6 seems really flimsy in some ways I can't quite describe.

Stardew Valley is about an oppressed prole who seeks to escape the crushing soullessness of Capitalism by retreating to his grandfather's farm but even there he is unable to hide from the pervasive logic of capital.

I think that goes more in the anti capitalist category but good suggestion.

I'm looking forward to playing Urban Empire in a few days even though I get sort of sketchy vibes about it that make me think it might suck. It's like a combination between a city builder and a political strategy game. We'll see.

christ what a stupid fucking video

Please read my posts before asking.

Okay, been playing Crisis in the Kremlin some.

Is there any ending that doesn't result in the union disintegrating? Seems like the economy just keeps screwing up unless you go free market. Also by the end I was like $10000 billion in debt (no idea how much that even is).

If not I guess I'll just wrap the footage for it and move on. I guess I'll try the in progress remake for comparison too.

Molleindustria

JUST

I loved Force Unleashed (sue me) but yeah, not really leftist

Mercs2 was fun as fuck.

YOU ON THE FIFTY CAL

you guys might enjoy this Hearts of Iron

Who is Phil Greavis and why have i not heard of him before? Sounds like a true Marxist Leninist bro.

he's a legendary twitter tankie

phil greaves, red kahina, cordeliers etc. all nuts

He's an all time tankie, he's currently defending Theresa May on anti imperialist grounds.

The Jedi order is totally different in the original trilogy (4,5,6) then it eventually came to be understood.

For one, it wasn't hereditary, they were merely religious monks. There also wasn't an occult tradition around them (no robes etc), they were also not legendary super soldiers but instead perceived as spiritual weirdos playing mental tricks on people.

twitter.com/PhilGreaves01/status/821419537086185474

hmmm

Further the Empire was never even hinted at being democratic

Funniest thing is that Corbyn actually follows him for some reason.

his use of "booj" never ceases to amuse me

Iirc the only reference they make to democracy was an offhand remark about dissolving the imperial senate and then it's all Jawas and space lasers.

Sheev was our guy tbh

This.

Well that part was always there. Luke has his abilities from his father. Same as Leia.

This. The robes were only a thing because Obi-Wan and Luke lived on a desert planet.

Depends on who you ask, but broadly speaking that's accurate. The guy on the Death Star who doubts Vader's abilities is too old not to remember a time when Jedi were the enforcers of the Republic if we go by prequel canon. Given how Episode VII makes the rebellion and the Jedi stuff of legends (even though it was only a few decades) leads me to think Disney is trying to handle this obvious discrepancy by making it so that in the Star Wars universe, information gets diluted and distorted incredibly fast as it spreads across the galaxy.

It was sweet that you could blow up all the buildings, including the giant oil company skyscraper, even if you weren't in a mission (iirc). I liked that game a whole lot, it's a shame they turned off the online co-op.

Postal 2

Is there a mod that adds anarchy and autarchy?

Looks like it's staying there, last update was sep2015

It's ten trillion dollars.

...

I like how hilariously and intentionally bad it is, yet it's still better done than everything Holla Forums make.

...

Dwarf Fortress definitely has nobles. They serve no purpose other than to make useless demands and arbitrarily order punishments if the demands aren't met. Most people get around this either by refusing to build jails or appoint police so punishments can never be delivered, or by arranging the nobles' execution.

i like the tropico series.
I bought Tropico 5 recently because it was on sale. i'm a fan of Tropico 4.
i had heard
before that the fourth one was better than the fifth.
I can't decide wich one i like more. i don't like the lack of variety of buildings, lack of customization, lack of micromanagment and less humor and voice acting that is in the fifth, but i really like the new trade system, the constitution system and the reworked faction system,
now its really hard to please everybody,
in the fourth one it was super easy and it happend automatically that everybody starts to love you except enviromentalists.
anyways what is/leftypol/s oppinion?
which tropico game is the best?

must save my topic

Crisis in the Kremlin keeps crashing on me, I'll have to restart.

Gonna get a new PC soon, that should help with all the 3D games.

How different is the original CitK from the remake?

I haven't actually played the remake, but I will say the original is well put together graphically and it's interesting that you can adjust the budget so intricately, but it would be nice if there were more events and decisions besides budget and policy speeches, and the game seems to be biased against state socialist policies (ie. the only way to really grow GDP is with free marketism as far as I can see) and it seems to be impossible to stop the dissolution of the Soviet Union until you just run Russia.

I'll play the remake to compare though, from the screenshots it looks worse in terms of graphics which is a shame when they had all the colors to work with.

Undertale is the epitome of Marxism.

Thanks for the contribution pol.

played the demo of the remake briefly and watched some youtube videos. it seems like it has way more options, like you can "win" while playing as a communist country. haven't played the original though

WHAT

liberal crime squad is satire

calling it a leftist game would be like calling GTA a pro American game

tbf, Bible Black ==IS== pretty anti-conservative. You have sexually liberated foreign girls practicing dark magic.

The real problem with this is that it lists Bible Black as an "anime film"; Bible Black is a visual novel, not a film.

Using anime as propaganda and political praxis is just Holla Forums as fuck

You can execute conservatives by telling them their parents wanted an abortion/taxes have been raised since their capture

I used to be a part of them, they don't really exist anymore on Minecraft but there's a Communist group on this server called Devoted that I play with.

play.devotedmc.com

If anyone is interested message me on Discord - ComradeNick#9912

Ramza is monarchist swine and Delita got what was coming.

Yes it is half satirical but nobody would make a game like that if they didn't at least have some sympathy. I mean the right is pilliored as well in it and ultimately it is a great fun revolution simulator even if it is tongue in cheek.

Kek, that's what "kill hostage" does? I always got the message that my guy's too much of a pussy shit bleeding heart to kill in cold blood
One of em accidentally beat a hostage to death on the second day, somehow, and it said he "shot up" and collapsed on the body crying before he passed out

Hey OP, if you're going to play FFT I thought it was fair to warn you that you should keep multiple save files. Some events lock you into a particular location for several fights in a row and it can screw your whole playthrough if you don't have the proper skills or equipment.

Holy sweet fucking jesus kek, man
I don't know why I laughed so hard at that

Death Corps flag when?

youtube.com/watch?v=H79Wf6Gqd2U

I'm kinda torn over whether to put that on the list or not since it's really more of a minigame and I would have to go through all the Molleindustria games if I did add it. Hmm, I guess I could add them in a combined entry for flash games type things.

Would Tactics: Ogre Let Us Cling Together count? It's more a fantasy version of the Bosnian-Serbian war, but it has a pretty clear condemnation of ethnic cleansing and the terrors of imperialism.

Duke Nukem Forever
Aliens: Colonial Marines

I haven't played it, but it's from Yasumi Matsuno, the FFT guy, so it might be a good pick.

Is the argument here that these are pro-capitalist games which are so bad they should make you support socialism?
