From the way I heard it, YouTube was planning on make the "Family Mode" the default setting for people who use the site.

I've never been attracted toward social media, yet I feel the urge to create an account on Minds as a backup plan in case YouTube becomes so fucked it's unusable… but also to spite Twitter.
YouTube's current "subscription + bell" system is completely unreliable. It clogs the notification box and it becomes impossible to see response to your own videos because you have to manually wade through each notification (which also includes people uploading videos, people responding to your comments on another video, people mentioning you elsewhere, etc.). This system makes it impossible to follow active channels (those can generate up to five notifications each day). I went back to bookmarking pages of channels I like and check their content manually.
It's like they've been to Microsoft's school of interface design.

This slow death of free expression has been happening all this time, almost everybody who makes content has felt the walls come in on them at some point.

That's why you see kid-friendly content being made, hell Youtube Kids app is proof that making kid-friendly content is where it's at.

Because kids don't use adblock, you've only got yourself to blame.

When the companies will have to now monitor where their ads show because with YT's newer system, they have full autonomy and officially can buckle under the pressure if people make enough stink.

The Cost per thousand will lower, less ads will be showed, less content that can be supported with invested time.

People will stop making content and go elsewhere.

Its going to be one hell of a painfull process. They will not fail easily because all of the big ones managed to make a platform around them, meaning everybodies data is stored with them and nobody else. So leaving gets very hard.
