The reason why a game like Sonic Adventure 2 is consider so great is because City Escape is one of the best opening levels ever.
Same with DMC3 where it gets straight into the action, and more recently Breath of the Wild, which is a Zelda game that final doesn't have a 2 hour long opening before letting you explore the world.

You need that kind of strong opening to hook the player. if a games opening is boring as fuck then that's perfectly valid criticism against the game.

You can do chromatic abberation by making a red, green and blue layer, all of which are on top of each other but instead of being perfectly overlayed you have red, green and blue with a small space between each other. Just make sure you don't fuck the order up in which the colours go, keep in mind that CA replicates a defect in lenses due to varying wavelengths being refracted at different strengths.

Although the effect is replicated by simply making the blue image bigger than green and green bigger than red, sometimes you can cheat by simply pushing the images more to a certain direction to make it more bearable.

Try to make the effect a bit stronger by making the gap between colours a bit bigger. The thing about pushing it more towards one direction is dependent on what looks better for the given case, there is really no one-size-fits-all advice for pushing it to a side. Also maybe play around with graphs afterwards (assuming you are using Photoshop) to make the text and border a bit less blue without erasing the effect.

Botw is an alright game, bogged down by a lack of progression and growth, an open world where you can do the same thing over and over, lackluster locations save for a select few like the zoras domain and gerudo desert, and a general lack of meaningful worldbuilding. Terraria is a better open world game than this zelda, despite being 2d. I hope they move towards the souls games and return to equipment again, while keeping things that do make sense like having bows and weapons findable in say towns and in dungeons and having many of them rather than the single bow in a chest that was weird having some of the equipment in chests when they are probably a common item in the world like bows and boomerangs and bombs and even hammers

Durability wouldn't be a problem if they gave some items or magic to make weapons unbreakable.

Durability can be good, but has to be balanced out with repairability, ability to sell broken weapon or resmelt and in any game that uses magic, enchanted weapons made to not break.

I think its better to have weapon breaking as a status/debuff that is associated with the weapon. Having your weapon break at a critical moment is a good way to punish players for doing stupid things, and can be very memorable. However, the way most games do it means that you end up repairing your weapon at every chance you get just so it never becomes an issue.
