So what exactly are the merits of this game? Is it a qualified indie success?

So what exactly are the merits of this game? Is it a qualified indie success?

or is it just a Battlefield/CoD bastard

It's the only good WW1 shooter, basically. Focuses on bolt action rifles. Matches have the map divided into a series of trenches and No Man's Land, with attack and defense phases to try to push the enemy back and take their trenches.

It still has some hit detection issues and the devs are biased heavily in Entente's favour but overall it's really fun.

Genuinely bad multiplayer FPS that was hyped by anons because "a-at least it's n-not battlefield!" except no one took the bait. Since being put in the latest humble bundle, it has gained a meager 100 average players per day, putting it at around ~400 players per day. This puts it at slightly less players per day than Evolve.

In short, it's a shitty, dead game.

It's a RO2 wannabe. The maps tend to be tiny and there's a really retarded class limits system, but other than that it's probably the closest we'll ever get to a good WW1 game.

It also has like two active servers at any given time.

Seems fair. If verdun had tanks and fuckloads of players at any given time on each map this would be an invariably better game. As it stands it's Not bad, but haven't played in months and can't really be bothered to get back into it because it still feels lacking. It's a game that represents small scale skirmishes and minor incursions upon battle fronts, not really fully fledged assaults with hundreds/thousands of men per side, tanks, CONSTANT artillery, and some kind of dogfighting/air support

Tanks wouldn't be good in Verdun.

But they were good in world war one. Verdun reminds me a little of red Orchestra tbh, but a really dumbed down, bare bones version in some aspects.

They wouldn't work in Verdun's maps besides maybe Picardie.

TBH I can't think of any other shooters worth playing these days now that Tribes Ascend is ruined.

Basically CoD 1 then.

Bad Company 2. It's still active.

I do seem to remember the area of desertion being quite compact, probably not enough room for the size of the battlefield that would be more appealing in anycase.

Well there you go OP, but if battlefield one wasn't already busy with maiming and dismembering some of the darkest moments In human history with forced diversity, historical inaccuracies, scientific fallacies, being managed by EA and just generally being a buggy unfinished turd, I'd pirate that instead. But the devs of verdun are at least worth supporting so that hopefully they can make a better followup.

Yeah, no. Those have always been trash.

Either underage as fuck, or shit taste weeb.

Did you find your way here from reddit, or what?

CoD 1/2/4 were top-tier, as was 1942/Vietnam/2142/2/BC2. BF was considered "shit" with the release of 3, and CoD was considered "shit" with the release of WaW.

Stop trying to re-write history, reddit.

Holy shit lol you really are a redditor. Those games were absolute dogshit.

>what is Verdun

I actually got that on Steam ages ago, how is it doing these days?

It got out of early access about a week ago, and has a pretty decent amount of players. More than you'd expect, at least.

I don't know where you're from, but it's time for you to go back. Your impersonation of Holla Forums isn't very good.

They have always been shit, though.

The Battlefield games were good, and still would be if not for EA putting up DRM barriers and such, keeping a good community from ever forming again.

if this was 4chan you'd be banned for being underage

Insurgency is bretty good

I'm curious as to when exactly this "hyping" happened because Verdun came out 3 years before Kangzfield.

Fam.

The devs are SJWs though.

Just about any shooter that has a realistic setting is not worth playing.

do you like iron sights? Do you like clicking and taking cover? Oh but it's not a console shooter so that's a huge bonus, instead it's just like them with the pretense of being a realistic simushooter with poor map design to boot!

There isn't really any merit to it, you need to be a tasteless shooterfag to enjoy it.

Hey I like it. Stop disliking things I like. You're dumb.

The game isn't even out yet, but i still hate the devs for taking a completely PC approach to the Middle-east crisis that's happening by focusing on the women fighter of the kurds.

What a great spin-off series, they got the best campaign, best destructo-physics, best shotguns, and best characters. I'm starting to think those games were a fluke because DICE don't even know what made them age so well. And seeing DICE now, i don't want a sequel to BC anymore
Also a shame that the first BC is console-exclusive since it has the best singleplayer

Nothing is perfect

Who?

I loved it years ago but have no idea what they have done with it since.
I should reinstall and see if they have maintained the semi-realistic damage.

Fuck yourself. I hate every atom in your body.

It's a perfectly good game but it will last you as long as you think standing around in a ditch waiting for a speck to move in the distance so you can shoot at it is fun

...

Get out.

The first CoD actually was good.
The rest is regenerating health trash.

day of infamy is really good, if WWII isn't your thing then try the born to kill mod, it's fuckloads of fun.

trust me, they're not. Just because they're making a game with a female protagonist doesn't mean they drank the koolaid. Just look at the kind of filth people dump into the game chat and on the forums. Day of infamy is nothing but holocaust jokes, insurgency is nothing but people ragging on rag heads too. And born to kill is pretty much just non-stop gook/zipperhead/slope/flat bashing and the gooks making ching chong noises.

if the devs were socjus do you think they'd tolerate that shit for even a second? There was a community server that had this rule about hatespeech that no one followed, some guy gets assblasted and brings in an admin. The admin tries to get everyone to stop then the whole fucking server erupts in people spouting nigger. After some autistic screeching the guy gave up since he couldn't just go and ban half the server. I'm okay with developers holding opinions I don't agree with, just so long as they don't try to push their politics onto me or enforce them in the games I play.

back in the day there was literally one day of defeat source server that had a good ping and player cap in australia. Always full and people were literally queuing all day just to play on it. Problem was the server belonged to a clan of mature aged gamers. Swearing and stuff was obviously not allowed. My friend got banned for using a sniper rifle. Being australian no one could help but troll these farts even at the risk of no longer having access to the only functioning server for a game most of them wanted to play on a daily basis. I wish I could convey the autism in the screeching when people started spraying porn images. Other anons have remembered this server when I have brought it up in the past.

I enjoy it a lot. There is always enough players online to fill at least a couple of servers, at least in EU. It is also being regularly updated.
I would really like them to fix ragdolls and add 64 player servers (or allow custom ones), though.

I hate it. I realize having more than 32 players would be a clusterfuck but I hate the way the feedback and sounds of the guns.

CoD 2 and 3 were good too, but the level design wasn't quite enjoyable as CoD 1.

also,

It's shit.

If anything, it's a RO clone with a hard-defined front line and smaller scale. It's one of those games where getting in the 'groove' is when it's most fun, and getting curbstomped is frustrating as shit.

The chat is pretty much exclusively tactical info (and nationalist shitposting), at least on the American servers. Since it's based on lines, most info is just "left," "right," or "mid," which makes for pretty efficient/concise communication, assuming your team is fucking literate.

Buggy incomplete mess of a game that still has gamebreaking bugs, horrid netcode and hit detection while being severely limited by it's Engine. That's the short and simple version.

COD was and is lowest common denominator trash.
It's just happens to be that games used to be a bit better,
so even a game that targets the bottom wound up being better than a game doing the same today.

As for BF, 1942 was pretty good, and that was enhanced by the extensive modding community. Without it bf would have been forgettable trash. The subsequent entries in the series were each worse than the one before, with the possible exception of going from vietnam>2.
I personally loved vietnam, mostly cuz I got to blare it aint me from helicopters and tanks.
