There are similar but weaker strategies with weaker creatures like harpies, but yes that is pretty nice.
That said in a bigger battle it's less likely to happen at all.

In vanilla, normal play they're fucking bonkers once you know the basics.
In vanilla, high level play they're either outclassed but above average or remain fucking bonkers depending on your luck.
In modded play their more casual-breaking and cheesy combos and strats are reigned in.

Nod really because they capped the amount of creatures you can resurrect per week. If they're OP it's because undead creatures are immune to berserk, blind and puppet master.

I listened to all of them again and I'd swap Inferno to #8, Castle to #7, Fortress to #6, and Dungeon to #5.
Except for the top 3 it's a really close choice.
Only conflux is a significantly worse than the rest.

Skeletons suck individually, but you get over 9000 of them so you've got strength in numbers. Zombies are pure trash, but once you've got nothing else to spend money on, that's what the skeleton converter is for. Wights are pretty good early-game for the regen. Later on, they aren't very good, but the mana drain is something atleast. Ghost dragons are rather poor, but if you get the 20% aging proc at the right time, you can destroy whatever it hits.

Vampires are all but immortal if you get the stack large enough and aren't stupid with them. Liches have that godly AoE that unlike magogs doesn't hit your own units, and Black Knights are hands down the best lvl 6 unit in the game.

That's nothing compared to what happens when you have lvl 20+ armorer specialists. Tazaar vs neutrals is just stupid. Tazaar with Recanter's Cloak or Orb of Inhibition is even worse.

It allows you to switch to modern resolutions and aspect ratios, so it solves that problem

Best one by far on large maps, 2nd best in all others.
Aislinn has meteor shower, Isra has necromancy, Septienna has death ripple with scholar.
You can get 1000 skeletons by month 2 and then another 1000 per month if you play it right.

Why? Simple. Conflux has best heroes + best levels 2 3 4 creatures + no retaliation on sprites + 4 phoenixes per week.
Stronghold is dirt cheap and has crag hack and dessa. Rampart has grand elves and some very good heroes.
Castle is balanced with lots of viability.
Dungeon is good.
Fortress has shit creatures that rely on luck but you get Tazar.
Tower is prohibitively expensive. Good luck with 2 titans against 12 phoenixes!
Inferno can demon farm, otherwise: most expensive with lowest hitpoints and some uber-shit creatures (except for efreets).

How unfortunate.

Random maps have hundreds of level 1 monsters spread around for you to farm skeletons on, that's why it seems overpowered. But on any in-game map, Necro is terrible. Its only strength is nullified and you have trouble even beating neutrals, since the first three levels of units suck. Regular vampires are not that good either, and the upgraded ones are expensive (ten crystals and gems?!). But I guess it doesn't matter if you're not playing on impossible.

For anyone who believes necro is OP, that's what I suggest. Play on impossible on any map provided with the game, and you will realize it is in fact one of the worst towns, possibly the worst.

9/10 about as accurate as you can get when trying to rate skills for all maps at once, aside from some personal disagreements

Would an armourer specialist make the skill more worthwhile?

It's a very worthwhile skill in the first place. Not as useful if you rely on ranged army or overpower neutrals fast & I wouldn't take it over Offense, but always good to have especially in close battles. Armorer specialist just pushes it to extreme levels.

Ah. Also, why are siege and balista in the same tier?

wisdom is tier2? is that the wisdom icon? you can't be that stupid right? no level 2+ spells, all magics fucking suck. is that diplomacy on tier2? suck a dick. go to t5 where you belong. sorcery on tier4? you never played "chain lightning wins the game" i guess. regen mana skill can be bumped up too, and "teach spells" 1 is godlike important to a caster hero group.

Yes but you'd obviously need to dumb down the game a lot to the point where you just wish you were playing the PC game instead.

HoMM3 pretty much already is a board game.
The only thing that you'd have to figure out is how to make damage rolls since the numbers for some higher tier creatures go over 100.
That, and you would need a calculator on you at all times.

Both aren't good usually but have really niche windows of usefulness. Ballista is useful in small armies/at the start of the game (and iirc you also get to control towers when defending a castle), Catapult is useful if you have lots of walkers and some castles to siege.

You wouldn't need to dumb it down at all. You've obviously never seen Warhammer, Chainmail, the Lord of the Rings board game, Warcraft board game, etc. They're just as fleshed out as any computer roleplaying game is. If there's a level of complexity that you think is too much, then you're going to be surprised when you find out someone used that level of complexity for a board game.

There's even board games with rules so arbitrary and odd that you wonder if anyone else even plays with those rules, the fun of it is that you can take or leave rules like that at the whim of everyone present. Wizards of the Coast published the D&D minis tabletop game, which is basically Dungeons & Dragons without fully fleshed out characters. The only limitation in games like that is the point total of your standing army and the point maximum set by your group of players.

Point total can be as high as you want, or as low as you want. Standard point total is 100 in most tabletop games, and most non-hero groups cost between 5 and 15 points, and a group can be comprised of anywhere from 1 to 5 characters. So if you really wanted to, you could zerg your opponent with an army composed of rats. 100 rats in all on a 100 point budget. And every rat has 2 hp, so if your opponent has any kind of area of effect, your rats will drop fast.

Anyway, point is, you wouldn't need to dumb down a Heroes of Might and Magic game for a board game.

If you have to take out calculator mid-game you have failed designing a board game. I have played Warhammer 40K and while the rules aren't exactly simple at no point do you have to calculate anything. The damage formula in Might and Magic games is pretty simple but it's still too complex to add up in your head quickly, slowing the game down immensely.

DDoor, Fly and Town Portal are the #1 reason to get Wisdom tbh, but if you don't get those the skill is slightly wasted.

It doesn't have to be fucking 1 for 1 with the same formulae in the computer game, you nut. The only reason that HoMM uses the damage formulae that it does is because computer game. If you scale it down for dice, you scale down hp values, dice values, etc.

200-500 hp fire breath can turn into a 4-32 damage fire breath just by number crushing. Think of it the same way that WoW crushed the numbers for characters every expansion, characters went from 20k hp at the end of vanilla to 5k hp at the beginning of The Burning Crusade, because they severely reduced the stats to accomodate more stat growth so that the next logical stat cap wasn't at 100k. Eventually you can't number crush any further so eventually characters did reach 500k and 1 million hp, but that's the perils of a power curve.
