4AM is shit for a few reasons:
1) Their threads are made when I am most active on the internet. This means that the cancer in those threads is now lurking other threads. There is a legitimate difference in quality of posts between when that thread is up and not.
2) It encourages personalities and removes anonymity. Every thread begins with "Hi, it's me from last thread!!11!", then descends into blogposts that no one wants.
3) It's not vidya related. Doesn't matter if it's a tradition; back then, there was enough users to justify it. Lower user count makes it smaller and more of a circlejerk. Go check a thread. Half of the users don't even respond to the shitty question Ritsu adds to the OP, instead going straight for the blogposting.

I only want the console/PC terms bannable as it causes console war shit. The Switch cyclical was filled with people shilling either side with buzzwords, and there was little actual discussion.

I'd say Joint Ops or Battlefront 2. SWAT 4 is great fun, but has 16 player limits in the Team Deathmatch, and you can make 16 slots in a normal map, but then it's too easy as they're designed for 5.

Higher bump limits can make threads next to unusable for certain mobile users. I'm not a fan of posting from my phone anyway but I from what I remember a good chunk of Holla Forums's posters do it on a regular basis (didn't Josh claim 25%+ of all posts?).

Honestly these three threads are basically the same thing, circle-jerks that pretend to be about video games. Containment threads are fine as long as they're actually about vidya in some real sense, these are not. Webm threads are pretty shit too but they're generally at least semi-video game related.
/gg/ is, however, about vidya and it also provides a helpful place to stick news about that whole drama which does legitimately belong on Holla Forums but might otherwise shit up the board.

As long as this is not done over-zealously then great, simply deleting such entirely off-topic arguments will suffice. The problem is legitimate tangents into politics can get caught up in this and that way lies hotpocketry. Good quality mods who understand discretion are key.
Can't ban video games threads arbitrarily. The rule about duplicate threads needs to be enforced though. Holla Forums as a whole has a major problem with splintering into generals, I'm not sure how/if that can be solved but Overwatch and For Honour are the tip of the iceberg there.
And give people at least 24 hours notice that one is coming up + start in European evening. Also if possible encourage people to host servers in the UK or US East Coast, this gives acceptable pings for the vast majority of Europe and North America..

Mark lets people get away with a lot, but then he won't ban it when it goes off the rails as he sees the initial derailment as only minor, and all the further derailments as minor, instead of overall a major derailment.
A good rule would be banning a general thread, unless there hasn't been one for the past 2 week, but then that means slower generals like MonHun and CFW get pushed aside.
Another idea would be games released in the past 6 months don't get generals except for launch, as that way the dust can settle somewhat so shills/shitposters can calm down.

I don't even post in the threads at this point, and the board is more of an abandoned factory that I dump random shit off at because I have nothing better to do. There used to be people there, but then an autist who got triggered it existed when it was mentioned in the thread once decided to spam it for days because he got replies before leaving because he got triggered the waifu threads existed which more or less emptied out the last handful of people that were posting.

The problem is such rules are hard to enforce and require users to have ~2 weeks of knowledge. A better idea is to ban the creation of new generals until the current one hits the last page, this is theoretically the current rule (is it actually enforced?, I can't see many duplicates in the catalog but I'm hiding so many threads it's half the size of normal). This would work better also if Mark increased the number of pages, I'm not sure what Holla Forums's limit is but I was under the impression it can go to ~20 or so.
A sticky on launch for any big game is a good idea also (maybe cyclic though I personally think new threads work better), this was only really done for MGSV (for almost two fucking weeks) because Mark has distinct biases with vidya. This can also be done for any big piece of news to prevent duplicates. As for banning discussion I'm not so sure, generally it will die off if the game isn't great anyway.

If the board had better posters, Mark's style of moderation would be helpful rather than a major problem. At least /tg/ has the right mix of seemingly decent mods and quality posters.
