It really wasn't good to begin with. I don't understand why everyone bothers with this and keeps defending it despite how much everyone wanted a fresh new upgrade out of 2010 and Colonial Marines. The game's empty servers shows that nobody wants to play it.
It's bittersweet result and any attempts to work in the DeEdit Talon engine makes all the map makers gouge their eyes out. The engine+editor is weaker than Starcraft 1's and a bigger pain in the ass to work with than Starcraft 2's.
Despite this the map makers still managed to churn out some decent ideas for singleplayer maps much more interesting in theory than the campaign maps. But because they lack the source code they can't really modify jackshit to make the map better, to the point some scripted events are locked. Most of the custom multiplayer maps also feel too much like they were intended for singleplayer and were suppose to have much more depth compared to how they worked in-game.
I quite enjoyed playing Aliens colonial marines with my friends in coop.

I do remember 1 particular singleplayer custom map I enjoyed, but it was heavily buggy because the engine does not support loadable vehicles of any form, and that includes fast-moving elevators. Every elevator in this game is slow as hell from the source code.
Anyway I loved that map, despite the fact I reloaded it 14 times till my marine stopped falling off the moving truck, despite the speed not even being that fast.
I liked the aliens bipedal running on the ceiling upside down. I loved the last part when the praetorians ran for the trucks inside the cave and the hanging bridge platforms fell 1 by 1 together with the praetorian.
This was a really short, but fun for a map. Everyone loves high-speed chases and rollercoaster where you just aim and don't bother driving. But the engine made it almost unplayable.
I had to use cheat hacks because of a various amount of issues: The warrior aliens would headbite me resulting in an instant death. My marine buddy would fire his rocket launcher straight at me, obviously killing me in 1 shot. My available weapons were not enough to horde off endless amounts of aliens + heavily armored praetorians which easily reached my truck because it's so fucking slow. Despite the truck being no faster than a marine running at twice his speed, I still managed to slip off continously when the truck would keep taking turns, no matter how smoothly it would take them, if I was near that edge then I'd fall off.
. And the game/editor does not allow for checkpoints at the place where you died like in ACM. Or any checkpoints for that matter. So quick saving every 30 seconds was required.
And no there are no available videos of it that I know of. I know I randomly found it on moddb for avp2

Alien-Aliens constantly changed genres between action, horror, gore forest. Alien was claustrophobic Jaws in space. Aliens was just a bug hunt with teeth-grinding "lock the fucking door, oh my god they used up to combined 1000 bullets, the hungry little fucks." And the comic books and video games just did generic Man of Action wannabe "evil corporation with alpha dog hero against all odds, oh and some aliens oh and some predators too which are more powerful than the aliens".
What other genres and directions should Alien explore?
