Episodic which would be great for Hitman but they fucked it up with heavy DRM and restrictions. Results screen is online-only meaning you can't unlock anything offline. Results are also numbered instead of titled. The only title is Silent Assassin. If you don't get that you just get a number… assuming you're online.

Contracts mode was supposed to a big part of the game letting users create thier own contracts. But outside of some presentation and UI it functions literally no differently than sharing contracts on forums back in the day. What I mean by this is that other than the NPCs appearing as 'targets' on your mini-map (which is disgusting casual shit anyway), they don't function any differently. Contracts mode has no fucking customization. You can't add/remove NPCs or reassign their pathing or change which disguises are allowed where, add/remove cemeras/locks. 'Custom' contracts still have the original targets in them. It's so fucking cheap.

The episodes are also too few. Since its release we have 6 levels with a few variations on them. This is smaller than any Hitman so far. We expected as many levels as in previous hitman games and then for that to perhaps double every year especially since they're being constantly funded.

The business model also got rid of being rewarded in-game money. There's no customisation of your weapons. No under-suit body armour. You can't even add/remove silencers on your weapons mid-game. The Silverballer is not available from the start and you can only use it silenced.

Also the guns sound like shit and don't have any distinct sounds between them. Silverballer silenced shot sounds exactly like any other silenced pistol.

I bought Hitman 2016 on sale when it got linux release which had relaxed drm. I also bought 1-3 on gog recently too because they were on sale. Can't really go wrong with the older games. They run pretty good on wine btw. 2016's performance is a fucking joke on all platforms but Feral Interactive are working to make the linux version better to the point of even contributing to open source libraries. vulkan is possible for it, too. Overall you can have a comfy time with revisiting hitman. Just don't buy the latest one on sale and I suppose pirate it if you want to demo it.

I seriously think they should release the prologue for free as a demo of sorts. I think at this point it could only get them sales. Everyone whose boycotted it is waiting for pirate, demo or given up on the series. A demo might get people interested again.

There's no fucking bypass, denuvo is fully cracked. Framerate issue is most likely due to piss poor optimization. I keep hearing about denuvo affecting performance but I've yet to see any proof as no one has released some documentation of how denuvo actually works.

Until CPY releases their tactic which they wont since denuvo will know exactly what they're doing to crack it, the only proof I can lead you too is Mad Max, when the game had that bypass is would crash constantly when looking at the map at random times which also prevented me from finishing the game and now that CPY has cracked it, the game is 100% playable and no crashes. As with any game that has been cracked, there has been no issues reported that and the fact that the NFO has the simple crack instructions as any other pirated game and not making you jump through hoops to get the game working like any other "bypass" should be more than enough to know that denuvo is cracked.

The fact that it's not off as a condition for pro mode shows that there's not an ounce of git gud. It's made so that any retard can know where the NPCs are, even behind closed doors. Turning it off, fair play. But it doesn't enhance your score and there's no incentive. You're literally just playing at a disadvantage for no benefit.

In previous titles playing on professional made it so that only your targets were map highlighted. This encouraged gitting gud and looking in front of you rather than at a fucking mini map which you can practically exclusively pay attention to indoors.

It's a waste in that if you think there's an aspect to the game that you can't figure out without playing it and the publishers have no legit way of you trying it, then don't bother with the game at all because you're wasting your time and not helping the industry cater to you. If you want to see a demo then try to make that known to the publishers. We've seen a few promotional weekends and demos appearing recently. It's good for the consumer and gets a few new customers. Everybody wins. Worth a shot.

That said I don't think there's that much fucking nuance to modern vidya. Largely what you see is what you get. Watching a few hours of hitman when it first came out turned me off. Seeing it being updated, linux support, relaxed DRM was enough to make me think it worth its current sale price. No pirating needed there. Because although there's some good things I never would've known without playing there's equally just as many bad things I've discovered, too. Overall I'd say my opinion and evaluation of the game before and after the purchase is the same. I don't think you could do that for the older games.

But if you pirate then fair enough. I'd rather (and advise) just play any of the 100s of games I've already got or try of the free ones.
