I want to try Grezzo 2 just for the novelty but the download is around 1GB. I'm worried the mod itself is gonna slow down my whole PC bad just running it.

I'm aware the mod steals resources- a lot of them do, so what? I'm aware it's too stupid to be offensive like it wanted to be and since I can't speak Italian every last bit of cultural reference stuff is gonna be irrelevant. I just don't want to waste time downloading it if it's gonna run at 2 frames a second.

I can't tell how optimized the mod is. All gameplay footage I have seen makes it seem somewhat stable, though I should be careful with weaker computers. I can tell that most of the space the mod takes up is from mp3 music and sounds, though.

Well the labyrinth map is sort of meant to be like that. Dark, dangerous, and easy to get lost in is what I'm going to do with it. I've just about got the first level or a preview of Doomwalker finished, just need to touch things up and I'll post it. Might make a small weapon/monster component as well, what with Michael Jackson's foul sorcery and black magic, and the gangsters he murders with it.

It's a lot worse than the hipster crap it's based off of. The bullets move too fast to work with Super Hot's style of play, so it's just doom played awkwardly with one shot kills, and it lacks the tech to replicate the bullets+bullet trail from Super Hot, so you can't tell how close a shot is to hitting you. All it did was make me wish I was actually playing super hot, a sensation entirely new to me.

Its better than I thought it was going to be, but it still has its faults.
Chainsaw, glory kills, and the entirely forgettable soundtrack are the flaws that really stand out to me.

The flow of the game really isnt all that bad, I do wish the game allowed for more monsters, I started off on Ultra-Violence and I could see myself playing through on Nightmare just to see if its any better.
And before anyone spergs out, yes i pirated it.

I kinda hated its portrayal of hell where it was mostly floating rocks and/or bones with the only colors being yellow or brown.

Hell in the classic games was cool because it had stuff like gray rocks, red rocks, rivers of different liquids from lava to blood, fire in different colors, blufire, flesh and organic stuff like intestines, walls of screaming souls, castle like architecture, wood, weird stone faces, upside down crosses, pentagrams, holes in walls that possibly resemble some sort of symbols, technologic stuff from earth being used by hell, that skull thing with screens on its eye holes, that eye thing on that green symbol, eyeball switch and more stuff i'm probably missing.

I'd add Trump Doom as well, and maybe Project Brutality. I also think that DOSBox instructions (along with GUS patches and mouse enhancements) should be included. Bonus points for MT-32 emulation instructions. I've tried multiplayer in a few different sourceports, but as an original DoomGod none of them ever felt right. Kind of amazing that DOSBox IPX emulation provides the best multiplayer oldschool Doom experience.

Project brutality is really good though, from all the doom mods i've played, PB grenade launcher and Shotgun were the best ones.
The monster variety is also really good.

Order matters. Select v0.31 first, and drag files into the executable by v0.31. I haven't seen the extra characters work on any version of gzdoom.

It looks like it's while using Zandronum, use Samsara-v0.31, Samsara_ex-hb3, then samsaradm_patch1.05.

Select all 3 in any order, grab what you selected by samsara v0.31.wad and drag it to the zandronum executable. If that doesn't work, then select v0.31 first, then the other two samsara files in any order I don't know if it matters, then whatever extra wad you want to slap on and then repeat grab instructions.

Or just use ZDL. Also my first time using Zandronum, can't find 1920x1080 resolution.

Just set a higher resolution then switch to 1920x1080.

Then an acquaintance handed me code for jump-through-able platforms, which I've been having a lot of fun trying to figure out and edit.

I have alot of ideas but I just don't have the free time or the incentive to want to invest so much into what is essentially was a hobby. Plus I am not really entertained by the humor of it anymore, maybe I am just too desensitized. If its not fun or funny to make then I don't really see the point. But if I ever do get inspired I'll be sure to add Antifa.

How abour making a HWNDU CTF mapset? Replacing flag graphics is just the same proceedure as replacing monster graphics and maps are hella easy to make with doom builder or gzdoom builder which have shitloads of tutorials on jewtube. Could be a good community project if there's peeps up for the task.

I actually made one map but did not include it because I wanted Moondoom to be a monster/weapon replacer to be used alongside other peoples maps. I thought about making a map pack but just lost interest in the project. The goal originally was to get back into mod making because I hadn't done anything in years and I wanted to make a weapon and monster replacer. It wasn't even going to be edgy or political but one user got dubs and said I should use the enemies form the Holla Forums.wad and then someone else suggested I make the player character moonman. I then decided to try and make multiple player character (Ben, Hilter) and stole a bunch of weapons from Realm667 and monsters from other games/mods. Only a few monsters are my original work and only original weapon I created was the boombox, MartiniHenry and the flamethrower. I also stole some clips from a Tupac soundboard but a majority of the music and sound effects where other anons who helped on account that I don't have any good audio software. I stopped working on it along time ago. I'm glad people keep adding cool things to Moondoom.

The quality on the ex-pack is from dudes who wanted their favourite character in the mod to autistic BRs adding any spriterip from any obscure doom clone they can find, damned be if they're balanced or fun to play as. Base samsara is fine though, most polished and not a whole load of bullshit.

Oh yeah it's completely imbalanced, but that's needed a bit to keep the weapons/characters feeling like the canon material.

I'm not very familiar with how Project Brutality's code works, but I'd imagine it'd just be opening up the mod in slade, heading to their decorate files, and adding an AltFire: state to the weapons.

If they already have an AltFire or if you're not familiar with editing, though, then it'd be a little bit more in-depth.

A friend of mine (and myself, I'll admit it) isn't great at FPS games and most of the Cacoward winners are too tough for him.

Don't know if this megawad would be too casual. It's a community project where the challenge is to make a level that only has 20 monsters not stronger than a Cacodemon.

You probably want to play older wads. The problem is that the modern Doom mapping scene has become saturated with Doom gods who want their maps as hard as they come. (The proliferation of overpowered weapon mods within the casual playerbase doesn't help either.)

Anyway here's a short list of megawads/wadpacks that shouldn't be too hard:

Memento Mori
It's from 1996 and is pretty much the first community megawad. It's still good though. There's a couple maps that have multiplayer only sections (map 11 and map 31) and map 23 is one of the earliest instances of a bona fide slaughter map. It's probably one of the easiest slaughter maps though and might be a good "confidence builder" for a newbie.
Memento Mori 2
The sequel (also from 1996) doesn't have any stupid multiplayer only gimmicks and also lack stray slaughter wads. Just faily solid medium difficulty Doom 2 maps. Also quite pretty. Even by modern standards.
Requiem
The spiritual sequel to the Memento Mori's. Generally the same difficulty level as well with the notable exception of map 23 which is a slaughter map made for Doom experts (Blame the Casali brothers who also happen to be the mappers behind the Plutonia Experiment).
Vile Flesh
Fairly ordinary Doom 2 megawad made with stock textures. The levels actually have a bit of progression to them.
2002 A Doom Oddysey
An Ultimate Doom megawad made by Paul Corfiatis and his friends. Fairly easygoing for the most part and fairly colourful as well.
Crusades
A single episode Ultimate Doom wad made out of maps previously released as the "Spooky" series and a few maps made specifically for the wad. A fairly competent E2/E4'ish with a bit of "Gothic" in there as well.
Doom the way iD did
Ultimate Doom megawad that aims to emulate the various Ultimate Doom styles while still being their own thing. Difficulty is extremely close to Ultimate Doom as well (perhaps too close). Theres a companion piece known as the "lost episodes" (dtwid-le.wad) with a five new episodes in it but for all that's good and holy stay away from the shitpile that is Doom 2 the way iD did.
Fava Beans
Ancient Episode 1 replacement from 1995. Probably the first wad to really capture John Romero's E1 style.
Switcharoom
A gimmicky Ultimate Doom wad where the mapmakers "reimagine" the classic Ultimate Doom levels as they would be if their place within the episodal structure were "switched" (ie. E1M1 is E3M1 reimagined as an E1 map and so forth). Do be aware that E4 is kinda difficult.
Darkening Episode 2
A wadpack with 12 regular and 12 deathmatch levels. Has an unique E1 meets Quake 2 texture theme.
Suspended in Dusk
Probably the best known map of Espi (a very talented and well liked Doom mapper who unfortunately died of cancer at the age of 29). Four huge maps for Doom 2 in a sort of E2'ish style.
Back 2 Basics
Another E2 style map from Espi. This time replacing the actual (Ultimate) Doom Episode 2. Probably the best E2 homage out there.
Community Chest 1, 2 and 3
Community Chest 1 and 2 are actually quite approachable and most of CC 3 is as well though it does get very difficult towards the end. CC 4 is a mapset with "modern" difficulty.
JPCP
The Japanese Doom Community Project is mostly quite approachable (though some of the maps can be very brutal on UV and map 28 is just nasty in general).
Garrulismo
A fairly ordinary Doom 2 megawad. If you run it with the accompanying dehacked file all text in the game will be in Spanish.
Phobos: Anomaly Reborn
A Zdoom E1 replacement. Imagine if Doom E1 played a bit more like Half Life, but still with Doom levels of non-linearity. Very pretty wad.
Inferno
An older wad by the same author (Chris Lutz). Huge elaborate E3 style "helltech" levels. The first level is a "tourist" piece with no monsters. It's really pretty though.
Knee Deep in Zdoom
Huge over-elaborate re-imagining of Episode 1 with all the features Zdoom brings. Scripts and obnoxious imp variants everywhere. There's a hidden "super secret level" you can get to if you manage to 100% Kills/Items/Secrets all the other levels. That particular level is quite difficult.
Vengeance
A full Ultimate Doom megawad. Episode 1 is quite poor but the rest is excellent.

Shit I am pretty casual, I think I'm stuck on map 5.

Doomed Apartment Building (vile_apartm.wad) is probably the closest to a "horror wad" i've ever actually played.

Most of the weapon changes are really straight out of Burl Tumd, particularly the rocket launcher and minigun, the gore is a mix of Burl Tumd and Ketchup. The new weapons are remixed beta sprites that have been used for ages in mods like Style Mod and so on. How the chaingun sprays shells everywhere seems like a direct build off the constant tinkling spray in Smooth Doom (with casings turned on) The plasma rifle starter's pretty original but technically DUMP 3 beat him to it. By all means, that's not to say that the mod's bad, or that you're not allowed to make a mod with a fast minigun or blood or shell casings, just that there happens to be many existing wads with similar elements and concepts.

I kinda get what you're saying. BURL TUMD was definitely an inspiration for this, but I think you're reaching a bit on the other stuff. That Pulse Rifle was originally from FKER (made in 2013) as were all the other weapons, and the gore is actually very much Smooth Doom just re-coded to work better. The RL in particular is made to look like BURL TUMD's version but only in visual effect, the damage calulation and everything else is different (only one explosion with damage, the rest is really just effects). I did definitely look to Smooth Doom for casing sprites, but the actual implementation of them was based off of Final Doomer since their version worked better for aiming up/down.

What's bothering me is that I'm assuming the perceived genericity of the mod is distracting from the other stuff I did, which I wasn't able to find in any other mod. I suppose I could always sprite-change some stuff but I really do want to keep to the Doom aesthetic.

Anyone who does Doom/Quake mapping or mapping in general have any tips? I've had a poke at Doom and Quake mapping but I generally create what seems to be a solid start to a map then peter out and can't really follow it up with an entire map.

Not a bad idea for an aesthetic if I ever get around to doing another *.wad someday I might use it. That said, editing Decorates in Slade is actually really really easy to learn and there is a wiki that practically explains everything. DoomBuilder is also relatively simple to use. Maybe you should try to learn how to make Doom Mods user, its actually pretty fun. The only real time consuming part is doing sprite animations and having the artistic talent to make it look good. If you need someone to do artwork I'm sure you could find someone.

Speaking of Nu Doom, i know Snapmap is nothing like an actual well designed wad but i have a question, is it possible to make single player levels with DLC multiplayer weapons like the grenade launcher?

I don't know user. I honestly hated nuDoom for the longest time. While it was playable it would constantly drop down to 30fps when their was too much action on screen. I haven't keeped up to date with Snapemap because it was dead on arrival for me. Apparently a weapon wheel allowing more than 2 weapons was added in a recent game update so I imagine you could use multiplayer weapons.

I honestly would rather play regular Doom Maps and with the latest GZDoom build you can even have sudo 3D layers like what is seen in 00:50 of this video where doom guy is climbing on pipes. Basically anything what was possible with the Build Engine is now possible with GZdoom which is pretty cool. As much as some of these Doom mods are Meme tier and as much as I love classic it would be nice to play more maps that integrate jumping mechanics as standard.

I decided to try out that project brutality and Guncaster fusion and boy it needs some work, particularly the aiming/hitboxes. The higher difficulty settings too, where even generic enemies can withstand a longhorn shot. Making enemies into damage sponges isn't how difficulty should be handled. I also tried that enemy pack for regular guncaster and it was alright until some really fucking retarded enemies started spawning. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to have a zombie with the BFG of the game?

Those will help with sprites but I think his problem is with level geometry itself. In which case, again either play through it as the map maker intended or turn up the brightness.

I like it. Basically what Moon doom originally started out as but with Holla Forums.wad enemies. Complex Doom takes that randomization to another level, good stuff.

Which is better?

Doom 1 has far better level design and overall more levels across its four episodes.
Doom 2 has more enemies, the super shotgun, and became the standard base for doom wads and mods.

Complex Doom is good? I haven't tried it myself but from the video it makes the weapon changes feel kinda dull.

Definitely Doom 1. There is only one level that I was disappointed with in the original and that was the second secret level. Meanwhile, a bunch of levels in 2 were gimmicky like barrels of fun or a slough to go through like the pit.

its free to play user check it out for yourself. I personally thought it was pretty fun. The weapons are not that remarkable because they are basically borrowed form other mods but they are not bad and however the main draw is the randomized monsters. The later versions of Moondoom toned down the monster randomization but I actually like the idea of not knowing what is going to spawn around the corner just because its a great way to keep old maps fresh. The point of randomize mods is not to necessarily play them with vanilla maps but to also use them in conjunction with good mega wads / map packs to spice up something you have already played through. That is why you will often find weapons and monster mods are separate from level packs so you can mix an match the components. If you want some good weapons pack check out samsara-v0.3 (only works with zandronum) or DemonSteele-v0.82 or Russian Overkill.

Doom 2, sure it has a dud map here or there, but it also has some of the best goddamn enemies in the series such as the Revenant, Mancubi, and Archvile.

(Not trying to say those aren't great enemies, I just wanted an excuse to post this.)

While I am primarily a GZDoom user, I have been toying around with Doomsday, how do I get full mouselook where I can look up and down and how do I get weapon .wads to work? I can't for the life of me get them to properly work and after I use give all it doesn't give them to me.

Are Heretic and Hexen connected? If so, which one of them should I play first and what should I know before playing.

They are quite differnet actually. Heretic is a basically Doom with a medieval paintcoat while Hexen is sort of like a first person action game. They are both good but Hexen is very different both in feel and gameplay and also suffers from a bad case of infinitely respawning enemies while giving you a finite amount of resources.

Shit's too bright for default settings. Increased contrast and lowered gamma and brightness. Doesn't show in the screens, though.

Depends what I'm playing. Vanilla/smooth is old thrash metal, usually Pantera. Brutality/Johnny is Roots by Sepultura. Reelism is just futurefunk.
