you're absolutely right op that's why we need a global communist revolution to abolish markets and capitalism
Cooper Stewart
Raising wages is fucking retarded
You will have to keep on raising the rate of income as prices go up
Prices go up due to more money being in a market
Which usually leads to inflation
Then you get fucked
Dumbass bernie tier faggots read a goddamn econ 101 book for once hahaha
Nicholas King
we know
Alexander Perez
u really coaxed us into a snafu this time

Inflation would not be any larger than it is with current floating currencies. Economy still would go trough cycles of booms and busts(even deflation) effecting the prices and markets in a way that would not cause hyperinflation.
Nolan Long
Yeah its retarded when the money is coming directly from the government dumbass
You understand how circulatin of money works in an economy right?
Employers already have that money in the market so prices wont go up if they can AFFORD to pay them higher wages
Fucking RETARD
David Rodriguez
That legitimately is retarded
You assume that inflation won't go up just because other currencies are """close"""" to competing in a macro market?
I'm talking the sole currency of a nation. It's completely delusional, because you will eventually have to start printing money to keep up with the "basic" in basic income
Saying it will do nothing and cause deflation is like saying that if you put a nail in your skull you will get smarter because you have more iron in your bloodstream
Xavier Evans
No welfare system has caused hyperinflation in any economy. UBI would be no different form welfare expect it in its lack of red tape and how it would drive people towards working part time or for lower wages unlike the current unemployment benefits do.
Dominic Morgan
because they give money for basic shit that's virtually entirely subsidized by the government. That isn't going to cause inflation because the govt virtually controls the prices of it through subsidization
And welfare systems DO have a large effect on inflation
If you don't go full commie faggot to which you will eventually run out of money and workers to subsidize shit, you will still have to print out more money to fucking fill in for the "basic" which keeps on rising
Also Venezuela and Zimbabwe are perfect examples of welfare systems of it happening
Venez started printing out fucktons and giving people tons of microwaves laptops and other shit and look at it now
Same with zimbabwe but with food and shit
Lincoln Martin
Inflation happens when there's a shortage of a good, if supply of that good is met then there won't be inflation.
William Cook
Too bad it would be one of the only things keeping your worthless head attached to your body.
The minimum wage is whats caused high youth unemployment in the US and only allows most youth to partake in part time jobs

Assuming that is true, if its supplied through printed devalued currency, then that means inflation will happen….
You can't solve it directly through government power fuckwit hahaha
Jackson Anderson
At least the last OP put across a case against it dummy.
UBI, if handled right would be way better than the current welfare system (in most western nations) and would actually improve people's lives. You salty faggots don't like it cause it keeps capitalism afloat. Nice priorities you got there.

No they are extremely bad examples of being welfare states. For one, they are socialist countries run by Marxists or in case of Venezuela an overly price controlled state that has no diversity in its exports and thus suffers form oil markets.
Wast majority of European unions countries have working welfare systems that have not caused inflation to any major degree, same with most developed countries.
Also you should think UBI as reverse taxes rather than substity since that is what it would functionally be.
Eli Baker
Okay so don't devalue the currency, use taxation instead. Yes you can you fuckwit. Stop acting like you know economics, it's quite clear you don't.
Jordan Scott
Who is saying that it would be printed form national bank in first place? It would be paid form governments budget.
Not strictly true. I've done it before so I'm not spelling out the whole thing again, but a UBI of £750/month, for ever adult in the UK (aged 18 and over) would only cost £80bn a year (in 2015 we spent £50bn on debt interest), assuming the majority of other benefits were replaced with it (UBI at £750 is higher than state pension anyway). There would be some people adversely affected by the system I describe. I'd be fine with a system that gave a little extra support to those with severe special needs or circumstances, but this would be capped too.
Back to affordability, mist of this free money would be spent on taxable products. With a sales tax of 20% as we currently have, that's not much off a fifth of the total cost of UBI straight back into the gov.
So no. It is not unaffordable . Next.

Don't worry, we'll just keep passing laws until it works! There's no way rent seekers will game the ubi if we tell them not to often enough!
Wyatt Hernandez
While I can see your point, it just makes your proclaimed concerns for the poor, downtrodden, exploited ring kinda hollow. Here is a solution. Not final. Not permanent. But something that will makes lives better in this age of record income disparity and the elite consolidating more and more power. This is something to rally round and if they refuse, to fight for. This could EASILY get more people into your extreme, impractical leftism if you embrace it and make the fight about the working poor, those who've by the IMF's very own admission have missed out on the benefits of globalisation.

Dude its called VAT and we already have a 20% sales tax.
Go on. Really, how do you game a system whereby every citizen gets the same lump sum every month, regardless of circumstance? Had you even heard of UBI before ten minutes ago?

Dress it up however you like. You actively campaign against something that will improve people's lives then absolve yourself with greater good thinking.
Colton Myers
Nobody mentioned gaming the system last time. Explain. How do you game a system where everyone gets the same payment?
Cameron Young
Also, going back to the other thread for a second, none of you provided evidence to show that prices for common commodities would go up. And buy-to-let scummers could be zoned by either a new tax on second homes, rent price controls or both.
I'm happy to do this one again.
Jace Roberts
I don't even think it's even greater good thinking, more spite at this point.

If I can't have my 'utopia', nobody can? Yeah that actually explains it better than anything I'd considered.

Funny I would say the same thing about socdems. Yes in the short-mid term UBI would alleviate some suffering. Clearly there are people in our society who should be cared for who would benefit enormously from it. The issue is that UBI allows porky to draw out the stagnation of capitalism even longer. The revolution will be delayed for an incredibly long time while the contradictions of capitalism continue to make people suffer. Wages would continue to be stolen, the environment would continue to be devastated, people would continue to be alienated, waste would continue to be produced etc… And what about the people in other countries who don't get your special little UBI? Where is their salvation? The truth is that I like the idea of a UBI, I wish I could have it in my country, it would make my life a lot easier. But ultimately it is very short-sighted. In the end porky will find a way to push against the UBI by exploiting the workers even harder. Industry will continue unchallenged. People in third world countries will still starve. Wars will still be fought for gain. Capitalism and all of it's contradictions will just keep going longer than they ever should.
