Julian Assange abused the death of a young man to peddle this inane conspiracy theory of him being killed by the DNC (twitter.com/swiftonsecurity/status/798016904736555008). Hell, about every US intelligence professional is arguing Wikileaks is a Russian front. Check out John Schindler's works, the guy is anything but sympathetic to the Clinton's and has argued since 2013 that Wikileaks is a Russian front.

Even if they don't do so, Assange is now seen as the good guy by millions of standard Republican-types. His popular support from liberals mattered very little during the Obama administration. The evidence that Wikileaks is Russian is flimsy at best.

The best explanation for Assange telling Snowden to hide in Russia is largely that, yes, they accept that those leaks, hurt the US and by their very nature help Russia.

The real question on Wikileaks though, comes with Kremlingate and what happened surrounding that. This is the big area where there may be a smoking gun and perhaps the FSB did actually overtake Wikileaks then.

That being said, Whistleblowers are still Whistleblowers and even if it's selected releases, Oh well. Transparency is Transparency.
