Maybe a melee character that pulls someone in (roadhog hook) versus moving to close distance (reinhardt dash, genji dash, winston jump).

I mean..really what could be added?

Combo system, left click right click E and Shift all do different things in different stages of the combo.

first move starts the combo, it sets up the rest of the moves. Lowest cool down if you use E or Shift.

Second 'hit', could be a sustain skill (think barriers/buffs/nerfs) or used more often (a series of jabs, blocks, or advanced movement)

The finisher 3rd hit. Biggest cooldown if using right click/E/Shift, biggest effect.

An example the 'regular attack' used as the first move would be a jabbing flurry, fastest melee attack, can't combo with itself.

If it's the second attack it would be a sustainable (for a few punches) sweeping hooks left and right. These would slide you a decent distance side to side and you would have limited control on turning while using it. slows and knocks enemies back.

As third strike it'd be flying uppercut, launches you and the opponent straight up.

Obviously it's a bunch of bullshit made up that has no place in the game, but a similar interesting system could be quite fun.

to get up to a high earea when enemies are not around use skill Shift (movement), skill 'E' (defense to you or ally some how), then left click click to do the flying uppercut.

So now you have your shift back quick since you used it first, E will come back in a moderate time, and you are on higher ground.

I like how it's the only environment/setting that is completely fabricated from top to bottom. Not even a tiny of bit of Jungle or the Savanna.

For 1,500+ hours. Most fun was with friends, quite a bit of fun was whenever a new update came out that added real content.

I don't know about potential, I mean yeah it had/has a ton of potential but I've been enjoying the changes in the game so far.

To me it's not a 'bad' game, I get enjoyment out of it just fine. Never considered the potential too much since I wanted a game NOW to enjoy. Seems that at least for me they continue to add enough content/changes to characters to keep my interest for a while longer.

I get the feeling that they kinda intend Server Browser to be a PTR they have no responsibility in.
Most likely they'll keep an eye on it, either with data gathering or just looking at popular youtube videos about it, then see what people are playing with the most.

The idea is probably to test things like "increasing base movement speed for everyone" without actuallying having to do it themselves and upset everyone that doesn't want to try it, or simply to do those "this hero needs 25 more Shields to be viable" tests. If it's the community running that show, they have no responsibility if it doesn't pan out but they can import everything they see that actually improves the game.
Come to think of it, it's pretty brilliant. They let the players handle balance themselves (which is more than some companies can say…)

With that in mind, they probably will one day allow more than 6 per team for the server and see what those games look like.
Probably still haven't done it yet because 12v12 means having at least 24 heroes that they only recently have reached. You can do it with just 12 or less with repetition, but for proper variety you'd need something like 24-30 different heroes, otherwise you'd keep bumping on the same people over and over again.

Not to mention, certain abilities and heroes would have their balance all out of place. Lucio vs Mercy is kinda a tight spot now, but if he could heal 8 people at the same time, it wouldn't even be a contest, Mercy would need healing proportional to the amount of players.

Several maps have good setups that make your weapon very lethal.

He also has the best healing in the game during AmpUp, far surpassing even Mercy and doing it in area.
It's not gonna be up often but you can basically "burst heal" someone in a pinch, plus actually damage people while healing in a more carefree way. He's pretty much Zenyatta but with Wall Riding, which is likely to be the biggest reason some people have fun with him.

Amp up heal is 36 HP/sec.
That's barely more than half of Mercy's 60, who herself is surpassed by Ana, not even counting the Biotic Granade.
Sure, it applies to everyone around him, but not everyone around him will need healing. Plus he still can't heal a tank that way.
And finally, that's an Amp not used to speed into the enemy team with a 70% speed boost, wich is the better choice in most cases.

He's damm good on koth maps or when your team makes use of the mentioned boost to engage, but true, he's so goddamm boring to play.

If he is healing 2 people (and that counts himself) that's 72 HP/sec, better than Mercy's 60. If he's healing 3 people (or himself and 2 more) that's 108 HP/sec.
His utility practically scales with how many people are together and especially against AoE damage.

I also had the wrong numbers, I forgot he was a bit nerfed since he was the default pick before.
He's really only good when several people stick together (ideal for KoTH for instance) or against AoE\peeling.

Unless you're talking about Reinhart, DVa, Roadhog and to a lesser extent Winston, going near other people isn't that usefull. They'll be closer to you as well so it's only a good thing if you happen to be better than they are in close range combat.

Lucio´s effectiveness is pretty much in the right spot now. But he should take more skill to play so he isn´t so incredible boring. Maybe tie his effectiveness of his heal and speed boost to his wallriding ability. If he´s wallriding he heals and speed boosts faster. Another option would be to fasten up his ability regeneration time by wallriding.

Or have his weapon firing a single projectile but if you fire them with proper rythm, they are more damaging, perhaps even changing the required rythm based on song, with the healing being slower but giving larger projectiles while the speed song gives much faster projectiles.

All 4 of Lucio's projectiles combined do 64 damage, he fires 1 burst per second, so that's just 64 damage per second, barely 4 more damage than Winston who is guaranteed to hit at all times. Lucio CAN headshot, and 124 damage isn't too terrible, but in that same 1 second span every single character except Winston can potentially do more.

For comparison, Mercy can fire 5 rounds in 1 second, for a total of 100 damage. Her projectiles are also faster AND larger, so they are MUCH easier to land and headshot (for 200), and she has a faster reload time too.

I dunno about that. Sure, the weapon variety does get old fast in UT, especially once you give up on some of the stupid weapons like Biorifle or Grenade Launcher, but it still combines agile movement with fast paced action and strategic though quite well.

I'd agree that it's worse as a team-based shooter, but as a regular shooter or an Arena shooter, it's pretty good and actually better than Overwatch.
Better than quake even, but that's another debate.

I recall 5/6x soldier being OP as fuck actually, before they put in the hero limits, and that was before soldier became the wrecking machine he is today.

Stacking Mcrees (if they could aim), Lucios and Winstons was far more broken at the time. Double Winston was basically unkillable with healer support and they had yet to nerf Mcree damage.

I love UT and Quake too. They're fast, they're fun, and they got some great weapons. Never get sick of that rocket launcher + shock rifle.

But when you get 3 friends together, I like co-op and team play. UT in multiplayer is pretty much singleplayer + bantz, no actual teamwork.
You can set up some fun shit when two players take the shock rifle for instance but it's not something you do all the time.

TF2 was my go to for a long time everytime I wanted to mess around with friends. Then shit got bloated, and the meet-your-match sucks ass unless you're flying solo.
Dirty Bomb does a better job (I hope it gets better after they split thought).
Paladins does better than TF2 nowadays.
And Overwatch does the Teamplay thing better than any of this.

Yeah, YOU gotta respond to it. If you're a spy, you gotta prioritize and follow movement patterns, if you're Sniper you gotta learn to tell the mediguns apart to choose the medic or the heavy first. Every other class plays like this.
The best players isn't even the guy with the best mechanical skills, it's about the guy who knows what's gonna happen before it does and reacts better to it.
There's fuck all interaction between team mates. Pyro can put out teammates and light Huntsman torches, and medic heals folks.
Engineer builds a faster pick up and the scout does jackshit because he didn't pick the max-damage weapons, but can take advantage of pyros and put out fires too.
That's pretty much it as far as team interactions go.

You know the shock combo from UT? I like to see that shit split among players. Two people maybe be half-good at it, but since they know how to work together, they do better than the 1337 gaymur with the alien ware and 9001 DPI mouse because that motherfucker picks Genji everytime and keeps charging in 5 enemies alone.
It's a whole diferent kind of game than shooters, requires a diferent type of skill and has a remakable small market right now.
Of course Overwatch reached those 10 million players. It's a niche that hadn't been filled.

Neither of those really makes an unstoppable 5/6 stack (5 would be +lucio, it's always +lucio). Winstons are instantly shut down by bastions. McCrees just don't synergize very well. Soldier being jack of all trades lets him combine his strength in all areas and doesn't leave him with any sort of hard counter.

When you play Junkrat right, you soar throught the skies like a magestic eagle raining down bombs on your enemies. And you'd better bet there's gonna be a trap on the ground before you land. Any moron dumb enough to follow you is gonna find himself with a foot stuck in shit up to his neck.
The best way to tell how well someone plays junkrat is by how close they let people get near them. Too close? Means you ain't in the right position, you're wasting your explosives instead of blasting folks away and not placing traps. Too far and you're a pussy who thinks this shit is Demoman: Redux.

There's a sweet spot for Junkrat where you must keep your targets at. Phara can mess that, Winston too and some others. Soldier on the other hand? Either you've been playing against some really good soldiers, or you've been seeing too many 15 year old ancaps picking Junkrat because he reminds them of their daddy issues.

i have to imagine a couple soldiers and winstons with an ana would come out on top of 5 soldiers and lucio. though ive never seen it.
the monkey shields would give their soldiers a good opportunity to get super aggressive, while the initial leap damage and tesla gun should keep them soft enough for a few easy shots to drop a few of them in short notice. the shields might go down fast but ideally by the time they do theyre fighting outnumbered, which is usually a big deal.
while ana might be kind of vulnerable, her kit would go great in pretty much any situation in that matchup and both characters make great use of her ult.

ive also had good luck as junkrat against stacking soldiers, though i imagine its largely map dependent. i dont know if 5 trashmen is the way to go though. youll want a hitscanner or two of your own to soften them up or finish them off.

hitscan is such a big deal, or rather, reliable damage is.

That would rely on actual teamwork, wheras 5 soldier's is just superior firepower. Also this was at a time when Ana didn't exist.
