Don't blame Steam for following local tax laws. If Australians (and others, see pic related e-mail I got from Valve a few hours ago) want this changed then they should vote for the change, but they are mostly left leaning idiots who vote for high taxes.
Most likely the tax rates for digital goods will only go up as governments see it as easy money. Want to buy that game? Be prepared to pay double for buying digital!
I'm Australia it was the right that drastically increased our taxes and despite us having 5 PMs since then 3 of which were originally opposed to the new taxes none of them have even suggested dropping it because it's more shekels for them to waste on retarded shit.

Our right party is a coalition between the Liberal Party, who are centrists bordering on conservative, and the National Party, who are conservatives.
They introduced the Goods and Services Tax, but it's been hiked up by later governments.
This tax will just make tech illiterates buy from Key sites or buy in brick and mortar stores, and the tech savvy will just make purchase with US accounts and gift them to their AUS accounts.
Gubment will never remove this tax. The states depend too much on it for their own things. What needs to happen is the abolishment of local governments, replace them with overarching state governments that control everything on a town/city level, and reduce spending.
Our council (local gubment) spend tens of thousands on fucking art installations. They all get contractors who are friends of the elected local officials, then wonder why the bills are 4x higher than first quoted. A complete scam.
Don't worry, people will stop buying games across the world from these new taxes, go to F2P EVE, buy microtransactions, then suddenly Iceland has lots more money to redistribute to their people to buy games at 24% higher costs!
