Games you got the wrong impression of

Pic related. Everytime I saw people bring up Persona 3 they always talked about how hard the game was compared to other RPGs and how it was true to its genre. I got it and it turned out to be a glorified dating sim with gameplay that was only moderately more difficult than pokemon. I couldn't care about the characters or social links at all and ended up dropping it after 30 hours.

I used to think Atelier games were just shitty weeb bait where the main selling point is the cute girls yuri undertones shit but then I got Atlier Sophie and it's actually a ton of fun. The alchemy system has a lot more depth than what I originally thought and it's refreshing to play a JRPG where the items are actually useful in combat. The characters are also better than the moe one trick ponies I thought they were. I wish the game didn't look like a high res PS2 game though and the combat might get boring later on. I'm 10 hours in and haven't seen anything resembling a boss or a harder encounter yet which is a bit worrying.

I got zeno clash for dirt cheap recently, as I've always seen some pretty bitching aesthetics from it. For some reason I was under the impression it was a sandbox of sorts, when it's in fact extremely linear and story driven.
I enjoyed it alright, but it was a strange misunderstanding.

...

what version did you play?
i think it was the original version without party control that people called hard

sage for offtopic

It was FES for PS2. I couldn't control the party and it was still simple as long as you remembered to use the tactics thing so they acted less retarded.

Nep. I thought they would be really fun JRPGs with videogame references. They turned out to not even be generic, they turned out to be HORRIBLE. Everyone one used some large uninspired dungeon from previous games while they would change cut scenes. They're so bad.
I played the newer games, then the older games, then the spinoffs. They are all so fucking bad and I just wanted some JRPG with cute girls doing cute videogame things.

Ya man, Atelier games were the exact opposite. I though they were dumb weeb bait but turned out so fun. I ended up playing the whole series after getting either Totori or Rorona first…I forget which because I ended up having them all in the end.

Go to the Neptunia generals and see why people like the game. People don't actually like playing the games, they just like the waifus. I bought the first game on pc and made the same mistake as you.

This is too hard for 99% and that's why people say they prefer P4.

Anyway if you think in any way that P3FES is a dating sim then you clearly haven't played it.

I thought it was gonna have zero yakuza in it.
I was wrong.

I meant to say VN, but the reason I don't like it doesn't really change.

I first thought Undertale was a literal furry porn VN where the only content was dating various furry characters like Asriel.

I got to date a skeleton and the fish lady but never Asriel; this game is shit.

I expected short casual fun like Portal 2. It turns out be a shitty B-movie with me as the camera man.

Every thread

Holy shit OP are you me ?
Shit I could put up with the cringe inducing voice acting, the high school setting, and the visual novel elements if there were a good RPG underneath it all, but there isn't it's just fucking trash in every aspect.

You must cringe at every word spoken to you, then. It's not that bad. Every other piece of criticism is spot on: it's not a deep combat system and you can just grind it out. The High School setting feels kind of annoying from time to time, but it's good for babies first JRPG since they'll probably play it when they're in High School. It's got quite a bit of cutscenes and the minor most of dialogue choices that don't really matter, like a lot of VNs. But you do also get the fusion mechanic and a version of Press Turn, just with a not-as-bizarre setting.

But seriously, you've not heard bad voice acting if this is considered cringe inducing.

I probably would if everywhere I went I had to hear
Senpai! Senpai! Senpai!

reminder that those were added in localization to make it feel more japanese to non jp speakers

proof?
It wouldn't surprise me that Atlus would do such a thing, but nips have a tendency to use names or titles instead of pronouns a lot.

It's a title. It's like hearing someone say "Chief" a lot. Does that bother you, too?

yea the only thing remediable about P3 & P4 was the Tartarus & Midnight Channel. also your waifu a shit!

U wot m8? It's nothing like somebody saying fucking "chief", if the game was in Japanese that would be a fair point and I wouldn't be complaining, but it isn't and we're talking about an English dub. Regardless of the intent it comes off no different than some blue haired weeb girl at an anime convention bookending her sentences with "desu" it's cringy as fuck.

user-chan, where do you think you are?

That girl is kawaii as fuck :^)

^ nice double dubs my duder
