New Sony Handheld Patent

This was filed in 2015 but it was published just today. It's a concept for the next generation Sony handheld. Looks almost like the switch but considering that this mockup was designed first it can't be a clone funny enough

Needless to say due to similarities with the switch if and when they decide to make this they'll be making some design changes.

How retarded do you have to be to copy a design that hasn't even proven successful yet, much less one that is ridiculed?

...

It's likely because they expect Nintendo to create a handheld version of their own console that would be compatible with the Switch. It's basically them sitting on a patent in the event they could sue Nintendo for "copying" their own copying, or to prevent them from reusing the design entirely and hence forcing them to manufacture more expensive units.

At least this one has a real dpad I guess.

2015 user.

Oh god, it actually happened like I said it would. The only thing I got wrong is how fugly it looks, what the fuck. Sony is known for its console aesthetics essentially in handhelds. Ken fucked up?

Oh shit, nevermind. Looked and

I guess it's for patent trolling?

do you think this handheld-tan will have sensitive nipples?

Make another Vita, have good analogs that click, remove the fucking touch screens and add the buttons it tried to replace and remove the proprietary shit like memory cards. Actually remembering you made a fucking handheld would be good as well.

They'll probably keep the concept of add on controls. However it'll have some sony branding and other features.

...

Because the Vita was so successful.

Just because it was patented in 2015 doesn't mean they won't make it at some point.
Wasn't the Switch patented in 2015?

Hey I know that song.

what songs are used in both webms

WebM 1 is Mitch Murder - Hollywood Heights.
WebM 2 is Fitgirl's install music.
Enjoy.

If Sony can copy the Wii, they can copy the Switch.
Chances are it'll probably go the way of the dodo just like the PS Move did.

thank you very much

do you know what song this is?

Afraid not.
I knew those others from the top of my head, but this one doesn't have any fingerprint and was seemingly re encoded meaning I can't find the original title either.

Hey, wait a sec. I think that might be a Sega Genesis song, that sounds a lot like Sega Genesis soundchip music.

It's FM synth for sure, sounds a lot like a Toaplan shmup soundtrack to me, but I looked and was never able to find the source.

Good job Einstein.
Its in the same vein as thunder force IV so its probably from the same artist

Desert Strike.

You couldn't even read the first five words.

What a fucking retard.

Thanks user.

I listened to some "best Sega Genesis music" lists and yeah, songs from that game sounded really, really similar.

Thanks user. just remembered I found the sauce a few months ago and forgot about it

You posting before reading is one thing. Second is fact this design worked.
They made their consoles with a design of a tablet. It looks like Switch because both were designed to be giant smartphones with controllers attached.

Iwata was heavily involved with the NX(Which would later be revealed as Switch) and Iwata died in 2015. Unless you mean to tell me that Iwata was just getting around to designing the Switch during his final few days alive, then it's far more likely that the Switch was in fact first.
This doesn't look like it's copying the Switch so much as it looks like it's copying the idea of controller peripherals for a tablet(You know, those shitty things that almost no mobile games use). I'd say this and the Switch are the same if an object similar to the Switch's dock was present, but needless to say there isn't one in this patent.

In simple terms, the Switch's dock is what separates it from this Sony handheld with really uncomfortably looking controllers.

They look too flat in the 3rd pic but in the 1st pic they are somewhat large. Its hard to tell of course since its only an illustration. I hope they go with nice big handles because no one is going to carry this around in their pocket anyways. It may as well be ergonomic.

Awesome, a new handheld emulation machine! Even with the D-pad in the dominant left-hand position!

Check "ipega" on amazon. One of the controllers they sell is something like OP's pictures.

Source: me, I own one. It's great for playing emulated games.

I wonder if this was planned as a successor for the Vita or a PS4 portable.

Whoa younare fucking retarded, dude. It clearly says 2015 there

You didn't read the thread either

So the next gen is going to be some weird mix between mobile shit and console shit?

Consoles have to change or die. Casuals are abandoning them for mobile and gamers are abandoning them for PC. Regardless of whether you like consoles or not, something like this was inevitable.

I want everyone to note something here:
This person couldn't even manage to read the first 5 fucking words of OP post.
He just saw the pictures, read the subject, then IMMEDIATELY FUCKING SHITPOSTED.

These kind of shitposters are pretty common nowadays, it's a millenial thing. Instant gratification, instant replies, instant everything.

So it was corporate espionage right?

This happens often. Frighteningly often.

After the Vita failed me so hard? No thanks Sony.

wew lad.

The idea of putting a controller on a tablet isn't revolutionary. I doubt one of them copied the other, but rather that they saw how the market was shifting towards mobile so they wanted to do a console/tablet hybrid. I'd even say that the WiiU controller was an attempt at that from Nintendo. The only "new" thing is that you can separate the controllers from the tablet, but there already are tablet controllers that do this.

They should just make a thing that snaps onto android phones and make an android Playstation store.

...

Someone post old console advertisement patents while we're at it.

Brilliant.

This is my guess. To assume each of the big 3 don't have contacts working for them in the other camps is silly.

Notice how it looks like the controller parts are removable, just like the Joycons? It also has expansion ports on both the top and bottom. Maybe one would be for a dock?

think this way. you can play 2 player games with one wiimote by sit on it

...

lol, retard.

Why is he a retard? This isn't cuckchan where you can type twitter lenght replies and expect to not be mocked for your faggotry. Now explain yourself.

He's pointing out it probably takes more than a year to design a console so the people pointing out Sony probably has an insider and raced to put the patent in to fuck with Nintendo

What is Corporate Espionage, Alex?

Is that real and do you have more?

And you still play a game with it even when the battery runs out.

Explain

Holy fuck, get real. Companies saw mobile shit as the next step for years now, the Wii U tablet didn't break any new ground and neither did the Switch. In fact, you could argue both Nintendo and Sony ripped off chinks.

No, you explain.

...

So, can they sue Nintendo and sink it into ground? Not that I want Sony to win, but one less console maker means that consoles will die faster.

The main question is: If It launch, what does Sony needs to do to make It a success?

Make it piracy machine, just like PSP.

games

also this, this and games. People bought the PSP because it was the best piracy system as the time. If you just want to sell quadrillions in hardware make it easily hackable.

That second one exists kinda as a nyko grip for the classic controller for the qii.

OR just make it run on an open OS.

The Switch already exists, Sony can't do shit about it.

A miracle

The Switch is a remake of the WiiU tablet that came out before 2015.
The patent looks like Sony wanted to recycle their Move controllers.
