Believe it or not, Kemono Friends started out as a mobile game that died last year, with its server shut down on December 2016. The anime was a sort of experiment and last hurrah for the franchise, as its creators weren't expecting KF to literally explode in popularity, and it wasn't even advertised heavily in the usual mainstream places (Chain Chronicle, the other failed mobile game-turned-anime had more exposure than KF), with primarily word of mouth as its driving factor.

Either he ran out of money, or that Black Lagoon video game project he teased about doing years ago didn't pan out so he's back to doing what he does best (besides hanging out at Hirano's gaming shop).

Anyways, this friends relative used to work at a large 2D animation studio that is not disney or WB. It no longer exists as a 2d studio afaik, but when it did it was fuckhueg, as they say. And what you described actually happened, at least according to my anecdotal evidence. There was a gym with good equipment, healthy and good food provided and done by pro chefs so people can work and eat well during crunch time. Yes crunch time is a whole other topic we can get into and argue about but for the sake of this story, let's just say if you had to do crunch time. This place was probably the top spot to do it. Unfortunately the western 2d feature, full animation style largely collapsed financially. And that place only exists in memory now. But yes. Unfortunately long term outlook is no longer much in fashion, things have gotten faster in tempo but not necessarily always in a beneficial way.

In their neo-moralist frenzy, they're effectively saying that to joke about something means you agree with it, and it's nothing short of moronic. They're painting huge targets on their own backs, and we're perfectly positioned to take potshots. And since socjus is so ridiculously entrenched in American media, they would still take a hit.

Am I talking shit here or is this worth pursuing? It's the sort of project that would require herding KiA into a new paradigm.

Defaming? That's a poor choice of word, I guess you meant "outing" them for what they truly are.
The MSM cornered itself in that position and people are fed up with it. The memory hole being what it is, you need to keep people in a state where they don't give back their trust (you know, like the battered wife syndrome).
One good thing would be to collect instances where they try to conserve or regain trust from their audience. For instance, when they are caught publishing false information, they will issue a statement that claims they were "tricked into publishing it". When they don't fall for the bait, they will remind you how "they were one of the few outlets that were careful about the info" (like you deserve a fucking medal for doing the bare minimum required of your job). There's definitely something to work on there.

The media as it stands is utterly unfit for purpose, they need clicks to survive and will generate them through whatever outrage they can peddle. But that is a short term game. As bullshit expands trust decreases and return on their investment will disapear, full on Tarkin Effect.

There are still some intellegent Journos out there, they will realise this.

Unfortunately we live in a world where proper journalism doesn't actually pay, at least not on its own. And yet, when done properly, journalism does have an important role to play.

Whilst economic models remain as they are, what I envisage is a world where they can still have their outrage pieces to get their clicks. But they know they will ultimately lose with just these so in between they have to put out well researched, focussed, fact based pieces. Their outrage bait pieces will link back to their research pieces. It's all a bit self referntial, no doubt they will do at least three clickbaits to every one proper journalism but nevertheless the proper stuff will be there.

Trump provides a perfect platform for this model. They are outraged by him and will throw out whatever "ist" buzzwords they think will stop him, and will no doubt get themselves clicks. But as we've shown over the past few years we will not bow to their shame, and by the very fact he was elected, it's spreading. They will need to change tactics. What must be done is demand they prove their allegations, else they get memed on. With this youtube rebellion there's now a credible, well liked alternative. The media must adapt or die.

I'm still trying to make sense of the general picture here. From what I understand at least, publishers and studios at least the large ones, outsources a lot of stuff and does use imported staff. So they want H1B1s and immigration policy that is favorable to them, that much is obvious. The ESA represents the interests of the publisher as main priority.

Is Hatch's stance consistent with Trump, therefore the ESA talking shit about Trump makes it inconsistent? Not being sarcastic here, I'm trying to understand the scenario.
