Jacobin Magazine

How is this magazine? I've heard a mix of things both good and not-so-good. The not-so-good has come mainly from tankies or near-tankies, but it does pique my interest

its a decent gateway to get normies interested in socialism but they are pretty much the propaganda arm of the DSA

This is what I've heard, yeah. I could probably order a couple issues and send them to friends, I know at least a couple people who would be interested in the Irish Revolution one

Socdem garbage

It varies by author and is mostly Marxists or DemSocs/SocDems, but it's decent enough.

Highest quality lefty rag around these days. A little soft on theory, leans toward socdem but Marxist enough. Hated by tankies and libs.

Leftypol should like Jacobin—they’re considered the sort of leftypol of modern media (dudebro brocialist anti-idpol types)

Reformist shit, but they trigger tankies so I tolerate them.

Their whole party's existence is dedicated to pushing the Dems left, which is stupid.

Well less stupid than that of all the other left parties, whose existence is mostly dedicated to whining.

i've enjoyed everything i've seen put out by authors affiliated with them post-election

Okay as long as you stay away from any of their media reviews. Which are just awful. WSWS is my preferred site.

A bit hit or miss. I've seen amazing articles there and retarded ones.

Hit or miss, really. The Connor Kilpatrick thing got a lot of people mad

What do you think of The New Left Review?

Decent, actually, I keep thinking about pulling the trigger on a dead-tree subscription.

you should, print mag is way better.

Just recently started reading Jacobin and following some of the writers, what was the Connor Kilpatrick thing? He seems cool enough on Twitter.

Go for it, it's very high-quality

There's a couple of volumes of this magazine in the /pdfs/ board.

It's in a thread called "Know Thy Enemy" or something like that.

demsocs and socdems aren't the same thing homie.

socdems is the northern europe thing or what bernie sanders is on a good day

demsocs want workers to control the means of production but want to achieve it democratically

some incredibly lame drama
about a month ago CKP suggested that the welfare state in england somehow lead to ending imperialist policies, which didn't really track and had a bunch of bad implications. he got made fun of a lot for it, and rather than say something like, "my bad", he doubled down and told the haters they needed to read more.

Also recently he got called ableist for saying the DSA is good because it doesn't have nearly as many "insane" people (his word). This was a bad look, but I'm also not going to pretend I haven't been to my share of Green party and RCP events full of genuine weirdos.

wrong but whatever

they think that the democrats are more socialist than the communist party of cuba

the Revolution it was not the individual who acted so as to affect the world’s history, but a people; the nation, the sovereign nation, wanted to effect everything. A fancied I, an idea, e.g. the nation is, appears acting; the individuals contribute themselves as tools of this idea, and act as “citizens.”

they have some nerd who just writes about how cuba sucks and yes he's very bad, you are correct

hipster "communist" tabloid magazine

Jacobin is making socialism cool for normies

only in big americanized cities

This is why Marxism fails to gain traction in the West nowadays. People want to keep Marxism secret from the uninitiated. We use high minded language and boast about theory as opposed to pushing for economic liberation and letting the rest of the shit work itself out with praxis. If society is ready for socialism a socialist society will develop.

Motherfuckers have no faith.

It could be that whole Cold War thing. But hey using actual logic to explain why post cold-war Americans have managed to become violently anti-labor except when it suits their own selfish needs is probably going to turn them off, am I right?

I don't really see how tho. I mean I know plenty of our rhetoric, but I sure as fuck have no idea how to implement any of it.

Post them here

Sure. But let's not be naive, there's also the opposite and much stronger trend where something is assimilated into the system in order to be neutralized. We should not celebrate every banalized and watered-down use of our ideology.

Of course we shouldn't accept the banal watered down socialism, I'm just saying once we actually get to the point where there's revolutionary fervor it'd be nice if the bolshevik party wasn't going up against a masses that were actively hostile to the very concept of their name

We shouldn't accept it, we shouldn't reject it. We should just acknowledge it and be glad that more and more people don't associate Socialism with the Lolodomor

Instead they associate it with Scandinavian neoliberalism.
