Holla Forums here, in the spirit of Holidays I offer a temporary shitpost truce to talk about a recent happening. A Russian passenger plane carrying military men and musicians has crashed. Most of the plane's passengers were the Red Army Choir en-route to Latakia in Syria to perform for Russian servicemen stationed there.

Thank you, Holla Forums, I likely wouldn't have heard about this otherwise. The Red Army Choir was what made me give communism any attention in the first place, and now I am deeply saddened at their loss.

You know, as long as I'm here and not doing Holidays stuff, I might as well say this.

I was on 4/pol/ before GG happened. I remember when it was a much more freewheeling board. Maybe things have gotten more serious since then, but there was a time when even the nationalists there weren't impossible to talk to, because they were at least genuine and motivated by an overriding desire for their country to be a better place. There were always some people talking about wiping out everyone who isn't white and committing other atrocities that would serve to discredit reasonable people who post on the same board as them, but until the election started getting into full swing, I never felt like Holla Forums had become the very shills they fought against.

There are many here who would call nationalism a spook, but not all spooks are inherently bad. It all depends on how they're used. I think we could have a society run by old Holla Forums existing right alongside a society run by libertarians, and in turn have a society run by anarcho-communists right across the river. Zizek talks about getting rid of ideology, but I don't think that's the way to go. What people really have to do is realize that ideologies are meant to be servants, not masters. They're tools in a toolbox and different tools are appropriate for different situations. For things like ensuring that basic needs are met (food, healthcare, education) I think socialism is the best tool to use. For other things it may be different, like highly specialized technical fields where one group definitively knows more than another, but over time as the field develops and the knowledge base becomes more solidified it should become more democratized.

The reason I say this is because this is essentially what the ruling class does. They use ideologies as tools. I know of a good many Trump supporters who regret voting for him now that he's filled his cabinet with the likes of Steve Mnuchin and Rex Tillerson, but let's face it, they didn't really have a decent alternative. The rulers employed ideology to make that happen, and even though some would say they just hate liberals and would have voted for anyone besides them, basing all your political opinions on pure hatred can still be considered an ideology, albeit a very simple one. Trolling has become a powerful political tool, but we're talking about running a society here. Besides, these days society is so corrupt, it seems like the only way left to troll is to be a decent, honest person.
