They don't have the comprehension abilities to understand what I'm actually arguing for either, as they're a bunch of conservatives unaware of anything outside the liberal-conservative paradigm of the U.S.

the communist manifesto is outdated imo. Still useful for people studying the history of communism, but as an actual introductory text I think there are better ones, such as Engel's "the principles of communism," which is a bit shorter and probably easier to understand for those today with a goldfish attention span.
