In iterations of this character where he’s able to shape shift into alien animals, why doesn’t he ever shapeshift into a kyrptonian, or Martian, or tamaranian, or Atlantian to gain their powers? And wouldn’t having the ability to completely restructure the cells and DNA in his body too look something else also imply that he should have plastic man powers? Explain please.

He can only change into beings with animal DNA.Last I checked, Kryptonians, Martians, and Atlantians aren't animals.

>>117415843Why would u downgrade

>>117415843Gorilla is his go to form so yeah>>117415897Nigga what do you think an animal is?

he only changes shape. so he can use the abilities of animals because his muscle and bone structure is changed to something evolved for tha specific task, but he can't gain magic powers.

>>117415971Kryptonians don’t have magic powers. They have special sunlight absorbing cells. Their strength is not magic.

>>117415969His powers are based in magic, not science. The Red decides what is an animal and what isn't. The cutoff point is probably sapience.

>>117416101Ok then, why doesn’t he transform into a Kryptonian dog?

>>117415805Because then he'd be overpowered if they acknowledged that bit. It was probably something that never considered when making him

>>117415914kek

>>117416230Am I really expected to believe that over the years not a single person has figured out how to sensibly justify this guys powers?

>>117416318It’s more no one cares

>>117416030Ah but it would take a considerable amount of time to actually absorb enough sunlight to get powers, no?

>>117416412It’d be worth it though.

>gets powers from The RED>is GREENUmmmm?

>>117416499IIRC, he has a skin condition unrelated to his powers.

>>117416499Checks out.

>>117415805If they just went with the Ben 10 Omnitrix route to explain his powers everything would be solved

>>117416499We had a red beast boy at one point but everyone went nuts

>>117416136You do realize you're talking about someone whose most prominent and famous character trait is that he's an idiot?

>>117415805To be capable of transforming into something, he needs to be able to understand how that animal works. He hasn't really had any access to kryptonian/martian or whatever biology, so he can't emulate it easily.Restructuring DNA wouldn't give him plastic man power, how the fuck does that follow? But it WAS implied once that he is functionally immortal if he learns how to control his transform himself accurately, since he can just morph his DNA to never degrade, so he won't get older.

.

>>117417860>To be capable of transforming into something, he needs to be able to understand how that animal works. He hasn't really had any access to kryptonian/martian or whatever biology, so he can't emulate it easily.that’s sound like complete bullshit. If he can learn enough about all the different animals on earth enough to transform into them then it shouldn’t take him long to learn about the biology of other species, especially ones like Atlantians who have a presence on earth. Also, your explanation ignores the fact that he actually does transform into alien animals in certain iterations of the character.Restructuring DNA wouldn't give him plastic man power, how the fuck does that follow?>who doesn’t it follow. He’s completely restructuring ever cell in his body and going from one organism to another. Why would you draw the line on what exists/existed in the world and not on what could potentially exist. Animals are constantly evolving.

>>117415805He can do that. He also transformed into intelligent aliens, dragons, phoenixes, chimeras, monkey gods, godzilla and eldritch abominations before, so if anything it would be quite easier than what he has already done. He doesn't do it because writers either dont realize his powers, or realize he is retardly OP (easily top tier titan alongside raven and wally) and dont want to break their story, which basically the same problem flashes have. Only limitations he really has is that changing a lot of mass is tiring, he only adquires the natural abilities of something, he needs to have a clear idea of he changes into, and what he changes into influences his personality (so lovecratian abominations can make him or are a sign he is insane).>>117416318It depends on the adaptation. The above applies to the comics, and I guess the teen titans cartoon, but the DCAMU seemed to restrict him to the fauna of the planet he is in, Young justice severely limited the speed he can transform, restricted him to actual animals and doesnt allow him to combine powers of several different animals at once.>>117416101His powers were never based on magic, you're confusing him with animal man. He has always been a result from scientific research, hell he existed way before the red or the green were a thing.>>117417860He is potentially immortal, since there is a real life species capable of reversing aging, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_dohrnii

>>117419239>His powers were never based on magic, you're confusing him with animal man. He has always been a result from scientific research, hell he existed way before the red or the green were a thing.Nu52, bruh.

>>117419309n52 had him as the results of harvests' metahuman experiments.

>>117419381Experiments that gave him a connection to the Red, which is inherently magical.Swamp Thing's origin was a science accident too, but his powers are magical in nature and he's considered a magic-based character.

>>117419470The Red and Green isn't technically magical.

Of course it doesn't make a lick of sense that he couldn't but if you did you really change the character to something completely different and he'd be ridiculously overpowered in every story.

Just fuse a device to him that has animal DNA pre-coded into it and boom, your issues are solved.

>>117415805>Explain please.Short answer: he does that in stories no one reads.Long answer: Beast Boy can and has turn into alien and magical creatures but fans and writers have an expectation of Beast boy as the supporting comedic relief so anything that deviates from that is ignored.

>>117419604>if you did you really change the character to something completely differentGood.

>>117419755>>117419728Jesus he’s horrifying

>>117419470I mean, it hasn't been made clear if his connection to the red is magical or cientific in the new 52, so I can't claim either. But it's not like magic based characters like sister blood were able to take away his connection for their own ends, nor was it ever affected by anti-magic, so it's probably not.>>117419755Just being able to use the abilities of several earth animals simultaneously would be extremely strong. Like combine a mayfly and a t-rex for super fast dinossaur

Attached: gar mayfly.jpg (1041x1600, 476K)

>>117415897>Last I checked, Kryptonians, Martians, and Atlantians aren't animals.the fuck are they? Plants?

>>117419558Spiritual is a better word maybe. But anyone who hangs with the magical parts of DC like constantine and zatanna are treated like magic characters themselves. So what I'm saying is animal man in JLDark when?

>>117419862Try and him from getting inside your body...

Attached: gar goes inside.jpg (1041x1600, 493.69K)

>>117419862That's why they keep him as comedic relief. Actually delving into what makes Beast boy ticks would upend the status quo for the titans and Nightwing can't pose and look awesome saying titans together.

>>117420018It's interesting to note that the TT cartoon, gar's evil counterpart was the one with the least arguments and put up the least fight, while in the original comic he was by far the most traumatizing. Nightwing's showed him failing to keep batman alime, cyborg's showed him being inhuman, starfire showed her home falling to ruin, and gar showed him murdering and eating everyone he was close to.

>>117420220>be beast boy>pathetically can only shapeshift into green things>turn into green Martian>now have advanced Martian shape shifting abilities>suddenly can shapeshift into non-green things

>>117415805IIRC he is limited by his own mind. He can transform into a dragon if he believed he could. But he has to see and know the animal he wants to turn into.

>>117415805They don't wanna upset ravenfags by making BB the strongest titan.

>>117420277Then he actually start killing and eating people during the brief period Dark Raven turned him evil.

>>117420466Crazy how people think Star and Gar are the sweet little fuzzballs when they're the most violent ones while Dick and Raven are chaste little schoolchildren in contrast.

>>117420567Very much so, although only if you are talking about normal raven and not raven as a whole.

>>117415805His origin story only involves terrestrial animals. T-Rex and other extinct species are enough of a stretch, we don't need to add aliens on top of that. Any storyline where he changes into an alien is a case of the writer not doing their research.

>>117420718Well wolfman is only the second writer after drake created him, and arguably the definitive one, but if you say so...

>>117420718>t-rex and other extinct species are enough of a stretch.>the literal goal of the research that created him was being able to reverse evolution, go through the evolutionary chain, and obtain extinct speciesThis is how you show you didn't actually read things, and are just power levelling.
