I once tried to roleplay Shepard as a humanity-first xenophobe, so naturally I avoided Liara as long as I could, refused to recruit Garrus, and tried to order Wrex killed.
Ir turns out that if you don't have Liara and Garrus, Wrex just kind of stands down for no reason. It was the most anticlimactic thing I've seen in any video game in a long, long time and I pretty much just uninstalled after that.
It turns out

Wrex is okay, but I always preferred Garrus.
Wrex sort of runs into the problem of I can only bring two people, and I always bring Garrus and Tali.

They really gave Garrus and Tali a lot of attention after their ME1 popularity, but even as a space gypsy lover, I think their ME1 incarnations are overrated and a bit bland. Wrex was the most vibrant squaddie of ME1. I stayed mad when they didn't let him back in ME2 and replaced him with some other inferior krogan.

You really had to have the right personality to mesh with him.

Can we all agree that curing genophage is the stupidest idea ever? Krogans are very aggressive spieces with high resistance for everything and long potential lifespan, and if that wasn't bad enought before genophage one female could produce up to 1,000 fertilized eggs per year. Fucking 1,000. Each time they numbers get out of control what always end up with war over space and resources and it doesn't seem like they now learn a bit about population control. There is not reason why they should be cured beside "but it was bad, man" or that Wrex was a cool guy. I don't know why the game act as curing this is a good option.

And in ME2 it was stated the krogans were slowly adapting to the genophage, meaning they would have naturally have had better reproductivity eventually. Why not just let the genophage slowly fade away while the krogan culture adapts to it?

Yes, curing the genophage is a bad move. Though, partial curing wouldn't be a bad thing. 1 Krogan every few years lets them maintain some functionality. Really, though, what the krogans need most of all is a thorough kick in the balls what makes them civilize.
