Well the pope is a barely-closeted Marxist, so there's that.

But ethical arguments for communism miss the point. Post-scarcity is the basis for communism, not everyone acting morally or whatever.

Overall I would say Marxism is a very grounded science (materialism, after-all). I don't know what Marxist metaphysics would even look like. Maybe someone else has something though.

The pope is a liberation theologist. They sound like marxists until you realize that they are using marxist terms to describe things that any real marxist would describe differently. Never forget that "social justice" was a jesuit invention and that they remain committed to it to this day.

Pls read Schopenhauer

Dude, ever heard of "Western Marxism"?

Hell, at least you should have heard of Zizek by now.

Tell me more

I would like to know this as well. I've heard that a lot of modern ethics are mostly bourgeois considerations. Is this true? Why?

Bump

WEW NO

Materialism is incompatible with religion.

ethics aren't a spook though. You want morals.

...

Ethics are just as spooky as morals.

Explain how you retarded

read zizek

What's beside Zizek?

When you approach religions, especially monotheistic ones, from materialist perspective, you get rather humorous and amusing conclusions.

If god exists then the universe is a computer simulation.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_equation
Take for example heat equation simulation on a grid of equidistant points. The simulated quantity, the temperature is the information in our case.
The grid is in space and we simulate moments in time.

If you have a slab of metal with one hot side and the rest is cold, it takes the initial heat wave some time to reach all the other points. Then after some time the temperature gets into equilibrium distribution.

So the information velocity is finite. At least as finite as is a time step in our simulation.

But you as a programmer can access all information in any point any time you want. Almost instantly. Thus for the points in simulation, you are the omniscient creator of the world.

Or another rather weird conclusion.
Or if god can exists actually within our universe, then it must be a machine, an artificial intelligence.

So somehow becoming united with god means to join the Matrix.

Of course this approach is also a bit mechanistic. But the result that all monotheistic religious believers are in fact huge Matrix fanboys is certainly worth some recognition, even among the believers themselves.

With the second thing I was trolling the Jehova witnesses when I had a date with two of their proselytizers.

Aside from trolling I was trying to point out various bits of revolutionary thought in bible, or otherwise troll them with unusual interpretations of certain bible passages.

I'm gonna say you can have communist/socialist theology but not MARXIST theology.

Yes! They are called "dialectics" (not to be confused with "Dianetics").

before you can say "continental-analytic divide", check out the work of mathematician/logician Lawvere, he's heavily influenced by Marx, and has even formalized Hegel's Unity of Opposites in the context of Category Theory.
