Honestly since we have no clue (or at least I don't) about the economical stance of the empire, (even if I suppose they are kinda facist in order to have a powerfull military) nor the rebels we can't realy know for sure who to support.
anyway in the extended universe it seemed like every planet had a different way to do things especialy the unimportant planets that the empire kinda left alone.
so in the end with no clear economical programs on both side we can't know (maybe the rebels are a bunch of ancaps as far as we know)
