>In a third person shooter with character drama and role playing

They might have been a neat concept for another sci-fi story, but they just didn't work out for the genre and medium that Mass Effect has. And ultimately were a drag that the series would have been better off without.

The problem was making the Reapers too powerful that they're basically unstoppable against everything and even when they get killed they're still able to live as seen in the Dead Reaper that was still able to indoctrinate the Cerberus scientists.

You're right though that space combat felt like it should have been a major part of ME what with the Normandy being hyped up as the best ship ever.

ME isn't bleak enough to do the Lovecraftian being shtick. To really pull it off while keeping in line with what ME1established, you'd have to have the Reapers win or at least lose in a way that doesn't undermine their apparent power.

Mass Effect is just gay Revelation Space. The Reapers are a shitty, illogical version of the Inhibitors, who are actually cool as fuck and the good guys.

Who cares really? The Reapers are just a blatant ripoff of the Shivans from Freespace.

The problem was that the Reapers should have had a good justification for their actions, rather than whatever the fuck the reason given (and the retcon with the regular space squids).

For example, in Revelation Space, the Inhibitors catalog races and wipe them out if they become space faring, so that when the Andromeda Galaxy and Milky Way collide, they can easily guide habitable planets into safe zones and ensure life isn't wiped out from both galaxies. They're genocidal dick robot cubes, but the reasoning makes sense. Allowing spacefaring races to develop would mean someone could interrupt the plan.

The Reapers melt people and make AIs out of them because AIs are bad.

Nothing you did ever mattered anyway, in a franchise ostensibly based around deciding the fate of the galaxy. Mass Effect was a fucking mistake.

Of course, in a series that wasn't hamstrung by lolconsoles, you'd actually try to make a good game by tacking on some RTS elements - if you do gud in the rest of the game you can deploy an effective defense against the reapers and if you don't then it plays out like MLA: Faraway Dawn.

Mass Effect is a shitty rip off of Deep Space 9

exactly. ME3 could've been pretty neato if it was unavoidable that the galaxy would be purged. I can almost guarantee that they had andromeda in the pipeline when making ME3. If they had continued the story with survivors fleeing to another galaxy, it might have saved 2 games and we would never have had to witness that god awful trailer for andromeda.

Luckily we can see their character in a more interesting setting, since the reapers are basically the fucking anti-spiral from Gurren Lagann

Mass Effect 1 was pretty good. Comfy setting and environments, solid GoW clone shootan gameplay, decent RPG elements, great soundtrack. Uncharted Worlds were great IMO, especially the icy planets, comfy as fuck. The miscellaneous quests were generally short and simple but interesting, and felt like more than just "go here and kill stuff" even if that's what they actually were.

I didn't like 2 as much. It wasn't bad, but it was somewhat of a downgrade. I didn't play 3 at all because 2 already tarnished my enjoyment of 1 somewhat.

The setting does have some great porn floating around, especially SFM stuff.

Nah, they aren't good enough for something like this. Andromeda came as a solution to their retardation after it was released, just check their quality now to understand that this wasn't really previously though at all.

They probably considered the possibility of having Shepard losing and the galaxy being destroyed by the Reapers but in the end feared their "fans" wouldn't enjoy "losing".
The best ending you could do in such a situation would always be a bittersweet victory where they managed to escape into another galaxy to repopulate it, bringing alone all their friends, friendly races and large amounts of people. But lots would still die, you'd still be driven from your home, this would never feel like a victory.
Worst of all, it would raise questions about the Reapers only existing in this galaxy.

The only good solution would be to have 3 endings.
The regular one, you do you best but still die and the cycle resets itself.
The tough one, everything you do in the game helps survival odds of everyone else and you move onto another galaxy with everyone you managed to save.
Secret, really tough and non-canonical ending, you manage to turn the tables by several sheer miracles and win the fight, at least for now (so you have a free sequel hook) but this should be something incredibly hard to do and the game shouldn't even hint this option exists.

Andromeda would naturally follow from the second ending without sounding forced or raising questions about the Reapers (and they could still be recycled if needed) and yet it could also flow from the third ending as well.
Metro, both games, did basically the same with a default canonical ending where you purge the mutants\nazis but with an optional secret ending you got with special conditions that wasn't canonical but felt a lot better.

The Reapers abducting organics to use for seeding more Reapers sorta worked as a case for the cycles. It's too bad tbey insisted on the train wreck we got in ME3.

ME2 was more of a reboot than a sequel.

...

...

You're retarded. ME2 was shit, but it was a (bad) sequel, not a reboot.

...

You're the retarded one here.
ME2 drastically changed the gameplay from the first one with thermal clips and global cooldowns and every change to the abilities.
It also changed the story entirely from working in the army as a special agent for the Council to being an agent for a mega corporation.

It wasn't a reboot but it was indeed more of a reboot than it was a sequel.

2 should have been the first game, then 1, then 3. After firing the lead writer they wrote themselves into a hole and we got the shit that was mass effect 2's beginning and ending and 3

By that criteria, MGS has been rebooted numerous times

You do not know what a reboot is.

Ass Effect was never good. Every single entry in the series was shit.

(checked)
ME1 had potential, but ME2 & 3 turned it to shit.

Potential is only potentially good. I don't give a shit about what might have been, in execution it was a shitty game.

ME1 was fine, just janky. I'll take janky over dumbed-down every time.

It was a piece of shit made for casuals. It was a casual game through and through. You are a casual.

Sticking with the Reapers was a major mistake, or actually having them be the major villain in the first game limited the other games.

In the first game Shepard was able to keep the Reapers locked in Dark Space which they had no way of getting out. Then in ME3 they basically have them show up in the Galaxy BECAUSE REASONS. ME2 has a stupid plot but it sorta makes sense that the Reapers would need to build a second Vanguard Reaper to get them out of dark space but once Shepard destroys their plan again then they should still be trapped.

I doubt the Mass Effect series was actually a planned trilogy and the people behind ME1 thought that there was a large possibility of there being no sequel so they went all out. This made the series so limited that there was no chance to try out other stories or antagonists to combat it's all about REAPERS.

You seem pretty upset. Why?

The Reapers actually had a great reason for being there. The first and second game teased them being there because the over usage of Mass Effect or something like that caused Stars to expand and go Nova, I can't remember exactly but there was a DLC quest in ME2 about it.

The problem with the Reapers is that the only good writer left Bioware and the jackass that we were left with had to shove Cerberus into literally everything and couldn't write a good plot twist if his life depended on it.

Because people like you destroyed video games so that they would become casualized to cater to you.

Or I liked a janky game that got shitty, "streamlined" sequels. Your flair for melodrama isn't conducive to anything but spergouts.

He is prolly butthurt about other shit.

The worst part about you is that you honestly believe that you belong here and that video games should cater to you just because you're a casual.

ME1: great game, combat was kinda shitty depending on what class you were, but it was overall a great game
ME2: combat hugely improved, but the storyline, while pretty good, is almost unecessary. The recyclers or whoever the antagonists were are just some dead race the Reapers used as their hitmen, but they're made to be the entire focus of the game. Also, the game almost borders on being a dating sim, which is kinda cringy.
ME3: whatever other qualities this game had, they were ruined by the absolutely shit ending. That ending was totally unforgivable, but the whole game felt kinda breathless. It should have been two games because of all the crap they stuffed into it.
Overall ME was good, but now that there's an anti-white street shitter running the company, I probably won't give them any money this time around.

loser

...

but overall your points feel like the generalized Holla Forums mouth-breathing, fedora tipping loser gripe about non-issues that you create just to justify being such a loser. The problem with Holla Forums is that the losers here have nothing to do but sit on videogames all day, so the problem is less with videogames than their loser lifestyle where they pour all of life's meaning into fucking entertainment. Grow up, manchildren.

10/10 bait we did it reddit

I've been shitposting on imageboards for 10 years, so yeah, I do.
I don't care who video games "cater" to; I play good games and ignore shit ones.
Prove it, memelord.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEIR FACES

You think Ass Effect is a good game. Dead giveaway.

...

what did he mean by this

all the mass effect games are bottom of the barrel "rpgs" and trash shooters

Who is he, Holla Forums?

3DPD

OP is a faggot who didn't play all the games in the series he's bitching about. on-foot reaper boss battle in ME3, nigga. step it up

Reapers were never supposed to be the fucking villains. They were just the ancient evil the villain wants to unleash. Bringing them back again and again for sequels was lazy and dumb.
They should have cooked up new ones for the sequels (and never gone with the lolsogritty shit in ME2).

I always fancied the idea that the reapers might not even know why they do what they do, just that they absolutely must stick around in this galaxy and exterminate advanced civilizations. Some old-ass civilization would have seeded every galaxy in the universe with them except for their own, to ensure that no enemy could ever arise to threaten them. And in the event that the reapers were defeated, the enemy could learn anything about who created them in the first place. Sovereign boasting about their motives being beyond human understanding just reflects that he doesn't know shit either and is covering for it.
Of course it could never have worked as the actual reason because it would be impossible to convey it, and without that it would be indistinguishable from actually having no reason.

Why not just use the collectors for that?

No matter how retarded the mass effect story got, I'll never forget how playing ME1 full Renegade mode with only Garrus and Wrex on your team basically turned it into a space buddy cop movie. I might reinstall it just to do that again, fuck that was fun

...

Maybe they should have gone full downer and have the Reapers always win.

The Reapers were fine in the first game. They only became a problem when Bioware went full retard with the second game and it's shitty main plot. They should have stayed as distant enemies that can't get here after the events of the first game and can only vaguely influence things through agents that Soverign had already indoctrinated. Having them just fly there in the second game and then having you actually fight them in the third game was retarded and completely destroyed the point of having them as villains.

nice downvotes

You mean the KOTOR games.

NIGGER DETECTED

...

Best stealth ship. It should never have seen or lasted in big firefights.

So was ME1. Every game in the series was too independent of one another because Bioware was afraid of alienating new players. What they should've done was incentivize them into buying the older games by choice locking content, but they were too scared and wanted everyone to have access to every mission regardless.

Ass Effect was never good, it was only a platform for libcuck shit and sjw propaganda. Prove me wrong.

The reapers are actually what the mindflayers and elder brains created in in their own image in the distant future after discovering advanced technology on some of the outer planes at least, that's my d&d table's official stance because otherwise it's fucking retarded.

You can fuck multiple alien babes who are their species' equivalent of jailbait, hit an unarmed female journalist for giving you sass, and commit well-justified genocide.
This only applies to ME1, though.

Disreguarded because you know damn well I was talking about me2+, when they changed developers. That's like comparing fucking watchdogs 1 and watchdogs 2, or mafia 1&2 with mafia 3, or bioshock 1 with bioshock 2 and infinite you fucking shithead.

Every time.

So was it never good, or was it only 2 and 3 that were bad? Make up your mind, because other people can't read yours for you.

...

No I didn't. I can't read your mind, nigger.

I don't get how anyone, even Biodrones, can think ME:A looks good. My gut is telling me it'll be Inquisition in space.

I'm still sore about how they retconned the Qunari.

Voiced protagonists were a mistake.

The problem lies more in the developers. They still have to voice around options they give the unvoiced protagonist.
