Concidering Lumberyard is a branch of the Cryengine, I'd imagine that the transfer won't have created new problems, and the improved multiplayer capabilities may remedy the main problem of the game as it is- the fucking atrocious netcode.

Though this optimism also rides on £100 that I spent on it years back due to my insatiable hunger for a new Wing Commander game.

It is actually about closing a deal with Amazon since all the public servers of games developed on that engine are bound by contract to use Amazon service. SC is a high profile game with a lot of fabricated hype behind it, Amazon is probably trying to capitalize that to raise awareness about their ignored engine and to get more people to use their servers (and that streaming shit).
Other than that, little to nothing is changing on the development of the game.

They do the exact same shit to this one. It's a repetition of a procedure you've already done, it will take back the development by two weeks to one month at most, hardly relevant considering all the other shit they still haven't dealt with.
Also, they never bought the license to modify the source code, only the AAA package, which includes access to source code, but no right to change it or change the engine name. All the little changes they might have done are irrelevant when it comes to porting to another version of Cryengine 4 (like Lumberyard).
The engine change might also have something to do with the current financial situation of Crytek. Unlike CIG, Amazon bought the whole package from Crytek, they can change the source code of the engine, publish without handling a single shekel to Crytek and stop including Crytek's logo/name on the game.

Pretty much everything they have shown works like shit and I'm awfully skeptical about the networking nightmare they would have to face in order to get all the "modules" to work together as promised.

Has been done before in several games (in many cases for a newer version of the same engine, which usually means dealing with way more changes than going from one fork of an engine to another one that is almost identical). Hell, games have swapped API mid development. That's not a big issue here.

The technical explanation isn't complex at all: Unless there is some hard limitation in the engine that doesn't allow to change the camera fixing point, there is no such a thing as a "FPS engine". The engine lends itself to FPS as much as it does to point-and-click adventure games, TPS shooters or even 3rd person games with melee focus. I'd say the engine is aimed at a certain scale for the game, but that's about it.

Really? Either way UE 3 was a good solution as well, look at Vanishing of Ethan Carter. It started as a UE3 game, porting it to UE4 was nearly effortless and painless for the developer. It loses out in some ways but gains tremendously in UE4.

Making your own engine is a pretty massive undertaking. It's not something you can just do in a 6 month time span. Minecraft took a long while before the survival mode was good to go, and it took how many years until it was released as 1.0? In fact, one could very reasonably predict its doom before their original kickstarter was even over. I kind of hope Shenmue 3 will deliver a reasonably good game (a Shenmue game, with all the good and bad things that come along with it). People will expect too much out of it, as they would if HL3 was announced, but the game I'm fairly confident that it will deliver.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance funnily enough seems to be the only big Kickstarter project so far to actually "deliver".

I may be slightly biased in my opinion of it as it is essentially my dream game, though I never backed it.

I heard the first half was boring as shit. I'm fine with games that aren't fun when they start out if they can eventually be fun indefinitely but not if the game doesn't have endless content/replayability (mostly referring to Dorf Fort and Dota 2 here).

Also I'm not big on CRPGs because the combat and exploration suck despite what value they might have in story or character builds.

How much of it is a game by now? I haven't seen any gameplay of it on Holla Forums before outside of one early combat demo and I come here pretty regularly. Is it available to the public? Is it fun?
