Very interesting. I might try making this. Thanx user.
awesome. I get 45 dollarydoos an hour for what mexicans get paid nine bucks to do.
the only thing that has improved workers lives.
Read Gilles Dauve
No but that does look good.
Run by corrupt nepotic assholes, drives businesses to outsource instead, usually promotes a "progressive" agenda.
Unions are shit.
Keep licking that boot lad
They're the only way that workers can organize and give a unified voice that a company will be forced to listen to. They're subject to corruption which is admittedly a downside, but then again businesses and politicians are corrupt too… Union members have even been killed on strike by hired mercenaries. In the Ludlow Massacre for example, workers organized to try to get the company to actually enforce certain laws like the eight hour work day and the abolition of company scrip, and lots of them died (including women and kids.) So yeah the pros outweigh the cons by FAR, and honestly if you're against the organization of workers how can you call yourself a leftist at all…..
Probably the only area where sectarianism could be beneficial
More like PanneKEK amirite?
Or are you saying you'd be happy to live like the chinks are forced to, as long as you're rotting away exclusively among people who share your spooks?
K I'll start reading but first we need to talk about parallel universes…
Depends
Some are militant and good (RMT in Britain, CGT in France). Other just toe the line and settle for mild benefits.
That's american unions. Tough luck
Unions are awesome and they're filled with hardcore commies here in Portugal.
That's not all those do. Starting with concessions and a "team" attitude hurts future workers and kills international solidarity. It's a race to the bottom.
hmm
He got the corrupt part right. The AFL-CIO is literally porky and the CIA's lapdog. We need radical unions as opposed to the business unions we currently have.
Literally the key to achieving socialism.
isn't that a good thing? unless you mean "cooperating" with capital
How do you guys think scabs should be dealt with? I think some public shaming is good but it's highly dependent on how the town thinks about your struggle and whether they'll sympathize with you and side against the scab.
First with reason if possible. If they can be materially dissuaded from crossing the picket line, then so much the better.
But if they can't be peacefully dealt with then they should be treated completely and utterly without mercy.
user's idea of unions was bad even when you consider American unions. The truth of the matter is that the destruction or minimizing of power of unions usually precedes rather than comes after the out sourcing of jobs. Without unions there is no group powerful enough to challenge companies leaving a region and yet still selling their products there.
Literally fuck off. Corruption for the middle class isnt corruption to be worried about. American Unions need to change the way they operate so my kids one day can join a Union. They want you to think Unions are corrupt, they want you to think they are bullshit, Unions built the middle class of this fucking country. Im a 3rd generation Laborer and I feel it my duty to see the presence of the Union for generations to come.
Corruption is impossible to eliminate in any complex system. Unions have SO much restriction put on them that what corruption remains is incredibly rare and usually caught almost immediately. Probably one of the least corrupt institutions these days.
