Valve make a lot of really stupid decisions. You need to give them your phone number and install an app to trade normally, because kids were getting duped out of their TF2 hats. Good luck doing that if you're even slightly privacy-conscious or don't have an Android/iOS phone.
Gabe hit the nail on the head with the whole "Piracy is a service problem" thing, and Steam adds value to games by adding discussion forums, a friend system, an easy way to join games and things like the Steam Workshop. Steamworks is a much better alternative to things like Starforce or SecuRom, and doesn't limit you to a certain number of installs, or put a rootkit on your PC. The problem is that he, and Valve as a whole, stopped giving a fuck. You can't just buy a game anymore, because it can be laced with Denuvo (MGS5), a rootkit (SFV), Uplay, Origin or remnants of GFWL.
On top of that they brought a lot of cancer to PC gaming, and gaming in general. TF2's key-crate system is horrible, and infests a lot of games that you pay money to get in the first place. The whole paid mods fiasco was fucking stupid, and they were trying to push that as a legit business strategy. They killed off most of their own franchises, and cancerified TF2, because they have no reason to actually try when they own the biggest PC gaming store.
Lastly, they brought this horrible community of retards to PC gaming, who spend mommy's money on a flashy gaming rig to try and act cool. PC gaming is great, but the whole PCMasterRace stuff is retarded.

tldr Valve did a little bit of good and a lot of bad, and they need someone to put them in their place.

Look up the ketogenic diet. No carbs, all fat. You get to stuff your face with chicken, cheese and avocado, amongst other things, and feel great doing so. There's no gluten because there's no wheat.

Rice, potatoes, corn, and oats are my only real starch intakes nowadays. You can make meatloaf with oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs, for example. And I've replaced by usual cooking oil with coconut oil, which works at almost any temperature and leaves no aftertaste. I had been using olive oil, but apparently the olive oil industry is so dirty it makes boxing look clean; you never really know what you're getting unless you buy very expensive stuff.

The best change has been that with the shift in what I can eat relative to what I can afford, I've been pushed into exploring other kinds of dishes that lean more heavily on the vegetable and meat sides of things. You can buy a shitload of greens even at Wal-Mart for just a couple bucks, and even cheaper if you can find a local market. I have a mushroom farm nearby where I can get a gallon brown paper bag full of white button or portobello mushrooms for $2. Mushrooms are good; dense like a starch and nutritionally basically meat.

I make do. The real hard part is desserts. Can't use any premade pie shells, for example. Cookies are right out. I've seen a box of wheat/gluten-free brownie mix at a local store, though, and I foresee picking it up in my future.

This is my eventual goal, but it's slightly out of my price range at the moment.
