Infosec thread

So Holla Forums, what's your excuse for not encrypting your texts and emails.

Because the people pushing it are CIA or state department funded.

Can't be bothered. Are they really gonna lock up a bunch of larpers anyway?

I don't know how and I'm not important.

Encrypting your texts with apps like Signal is pretty user-friendly. It's just like whatsapp or viber.
Privacy is also a right, so it's a matter of principle.

I already have Tor. What else can I do to increase my privacy online?

10/10

do you use the shitty tor browser, or do you actually start a systemwide tor proxy and tunnel all traffic thru tor protocol?

It takes a little more skill to set up systemwide proxy, but all traffic gets tor routed.

Much more secure this way

I already encrypt all my messages buying drugs on the darknet.

FDE, using free software, encrypted mail, i2p instead of TOR, etc. There's lots to be done.

You can't legislate math away. Encryption works whether illegal or not.

This doesn't work.
Although they look similar, the porn star looks like stagnate Brad Patton, the gay porn star, who's also Swedish and Australian.
Currently lives in Amsterdam and works as a figure skater.

Why do they push it?

Any easily accessible app is going to be using an encryption method that has a backdoor. If someone made a user-friendly app without a backdoor, they would get disappeared.

Signal is open source and got really good reviews, including from the EFF and Snowden.
To be honest, the whole "oh it probably has a backdoor, so don't bother" argument used against a lot of open source projects, smells like COINTELPRO.

Jesus christ, you kids are fucking stupid. You can have security. You just need to get over this "app" craze and learn that regular software is just as easy to use if you RTFM.

I'm pretty sure signal doesn't have a backdoor
Would like to be proven wrong tho

Why would you want Signal to have a backdoor?

It might:

No it fucking isn't. They use a special browser for a reason. It's to disable javascript and plugins and things like flash that can deanonymize you.

You are not safe if you use a regular browser with tor.
