MMO General

Can this shit be fixed? Edition

So somehow I missed that Amazon Game Studios is currently making an MMO called New World. Apparently it's sandbox and they are claiming that you be a farmer if you want, you can be a soldier or a blacksmith. It's got a fantasy setting from the little bit they've shown.

Can it work Holla Forums?
Could it save MMOs?
**I trust Amazon MORE to do what's good instead of just doing this bullshit that earns them money like the AAA's*

I am so ashamed

I didn't know Amazon made games. I doubt that it will work. The idea seems nice but I think by now we should know better than to play a game without P2P connectivity. Let's not put ourselves at the mercy of cowardly profit oriented stockholders and ignorant pointy haired managers. If we can't host it ourselves, we shouldn't play it.

I trust them MORE then a AAA Studio (EA, Bioware, Blizzard) in being willing to innovate and whiff on a concept. Other MMO studios won't do anything till they know that it's profitable.
MMO production has become so fucking stagnant and it's going to take a giant jumping into game design and saying that they don't give a shit about the profitable standards.

i think it's funny how commies think capitalist scumbags are pigs. Pigs have stubby noses, the real capitalist scumbags are Jews and have long noses
no big surprise

You think a large company with shareholders to please is going to go "LOL LETS HAVE FUN" when making an MMO as opposed to scrutinising and analysing MMOs that are already on the market and - should they conclude it is profitable (which they will)- imitate them?

They're already going against the grain by announcing a Sandbox MMO. If they wanted pure profit it would be more Theme Park.

At least everyone can agree Amazon's a shit

We're so subversive that even Holla Forums's favourite meme about jews pays service to the depiction of capitalists as pigs by putting emphasis on the nose when referring to the group that is viewed as the ruling class.

How exactly can't a sandbox MMO accomodate the usual P2W shittery? I definitely think there's more potential in a sandbox MMO, and it would be nice if it turned out well. But the chances it will are abysmal.

Back to 9gag.

I'll stop posting about gommunism after this because I'm veering towards derailing.

They still haven't shown a single thing about it besides the logo and you trust Amazon.

Decent try. Maybe one day you'll capture a segment of Holla Forums, but that day isn't today gomrade. Most of your OC generals are full of /r/socialism and /gamerghazi/ rehashed memes. You should just go back to SA tbh.
subverting /devilish/ pepe blasphemy

sandboxes are less profitable because the winning becomes secondary to the experience in a sandbox
so p2w is less profitable
leftpol is just pol meta shitposting

Amazon? are we talking THE Amazon here? as in, the Amazon company that deals in online sales? i wouldn't get my hopes up user

I suppose that's fairly sound reasoning. Sandbox MMOs are maybe less likely to attract the "winner/beater" demographic that are more motivated to try and veer ahead of others and therefore are more likely to pay to do so.

Although at the same time, they might not yet realise this. Wakfu was supposed to be a sandbox MMO but it abandoned that goal and descended into P2W shittery.

I want a truly innovative MMO for once that goes beyond the archetypes. Maybe an MMO with only archers or something where you can hunt and gather or a good steampunk or cyberpunk MMO. Maybe scifi too, there needs to be a successor to EVE/RF/FagWars that isn't filled with cancer.

have there been any subscriber based sandbox mmos that were successful?

I didn't play EVE much but I guess it's a sandbox MMO? The fact people had the freedom to commit huge virtual financial crime would suggest to me it is at least.

Besides that I'm not too sure.

you'd think someone would take that idea, slap a fresh coat of paint on it and rake in the cash

The thing is with shareholders, if you say:
VS
They will generally go for the second option.

that combined with lack of talent
pink haired rainbow faggots don't inspire businesses to take a chance

Did I say I trusted them implicitly? No, I said I trust them more then your average MMO maker to put out a better product.

It worked in the best MMO, Ultima Online, so of course it can. Whether it will is another thing.

Personally I think that SWG could have gone on for another 10 years if they hadn't fucked it up. If they had a graphics update it might still have been popular now.

UO was doing okay before EverQuest showed up and skullfucked the genre into the themepark style shit we have today.

...

So they're making Life is Feudal?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Investors are the worse thing to happen to the video game industry and they'll crash the industry after one big named publisher goes bankrupt in investor flight.

Hopefully afterwards video game companies stop being publicly traded and get back to making kick ass games.

Also investors are dumber than a box of rocks. You can bullshit them into anything, but you'll be risking your job. Unfortunately investors put nongamers in charge of video game companies and then they try to run it like the movie industry, while listening to marketing departments that know even less about video games than the CEOs.

Paradox did a good rundown on what's wrong with the industry years ago before they became shit. It was very insightful.

I'd really like to play an MMO that was exclusive about farming, but it was set in a generic medieval fantasy world and you'd not only have to put up with the struggles of farming but you'd also have to put up with wolves attacking your animals, orc raider, dragons, and all kinds of retarded shit that would make you have to come together with other players to hire NPC adventurers to go off an have a grand adventure to deal with this shit while you get to resewing your crop fields.

I'd really like to play an MMO that isn't the same themepark shit with a coat of paint to hide it's copypasted interior.

There's infinite amount of things you could do with an MMO, yet every single one of them is the same.

...

Say what you want about Amazon being greedy jews but they're pretty innovative. They weren't kidding about the drone delivery thing and Amazon web services has become absolutely huge. Their goal seems to be to invade a market and completely change it with new technology then establish a monopoly with patents. They did it with Amazon web services, they did it with online retail (specifically shipping) to an extent, and they're currently doing it with in person retail with Amazon Go.

I think they'll try to make a genuinely innovative sandbox MMO so they can completely change the MMO market and make their engine the best engine for sandbox MMOs, the question is just will it suck despite its innovation.

I don't care what you want. I don't know why you'd think I would.
