It's got fun games and makes a better GameCube than the real thing thanks to homebre support. Wii U is the same but with even less games.

It was a good console let down by Nintendo completely fucking failing to support the damn thing. That and their need to shoe-horn in device features where they weren't needed (Star Fox Zero).
The biggest problem with the Wii U was the 3DS. When the Wii U launched the 3DS was struggling, and Nintendo (perhaps stupidly) decided to focus on the 3DS to get it happening (complete with price cuts and ambassador programs) and it left the Wii U without games. By the time their attention returned to the Wii U it was already too late.
Thankfully that isn't likely to repeat now that the Switch is both portable and home console and Nintendo only has to make games for one architecture (and they can simply upgrade specs in a couple of years ala PS4 Pro by switching to upgraded Tegra chips).
Also, the downclocking of the Switch in portable mode isn't likely to be an issue. If the touch screen is 720p and it outputs at 1080p when docked, then when portable it only has to draw about 40% of the pixels. And guess what? The portable mode runs at about 40% of the docked clock speed.
Nintendo shot themselves in the foot trying to make games with increasingly demanding assets time-wise on two separate platforms and hardware configurations. And they've noticed this. No doubt they will find some new way to fuck up the Switch though.

The main plot yeah. XBX is more about world building and setting than it is the story. Fucking infinite sidequests ranging from gathering a group of old vets to get their keys to stolen treasure, helping a cat girl cut off her ears cuz she believes them to make her too cute or tracking down and killing one of three black people in the game cuz he went full Dindu and started killing all the aliens that move into the town. The twist at the end of the main plot is pretty good though.

Disc version only available in PAL regions.
Just want to point out the online for this will be shutting down on the December 28th. So you only be able to access the single player mode unless someone comes up with a online multiplayer workaround.

And no the game doesn't have local split screen (which would have given it an edge against a game like Splatoon).

With DT I cant say whether thats such a big loss or not. I played that and admittedly had fun with it, but the online was so unpolished. Besides the game being dead at launch, the framerate was inconsistent and would tank the moment you brought up the player list, netcode was poor, connecting to choose a game mode was annoying, and since its being made into a F2P game on PC it doesnt really matter.

I'm interested in the Switch but I know this is coming, they've really laxed WiiU releases since mid 2015 but you know they didn't use that time to prep Switch releases, somehow.

Even with the Wii at least there were some good games coming out before they pulled the plug, with the Wii U they either didnt know what to do or gave a fuck. I also hate that practice from Nintendo, I wish they would do what Sony or M$ have done with the 360/PS3 where they supported it for a long time.

I would say this is a decent "exclusive", since it's probably the best Yoshi game since Yoshi's Island on SNES. It's a lot more laid back and they still haven't topped the boss fights, but with it cheap now, it's worth a look. The only big issue now is what the 3DS port brings to counter the downgrade. The 3DS version has announced more amiibo skins (Animal Crossing, especially).

The HD hurdle is beyond them, expectations lead to no significant bump, but you know they will find a way to fuck things up.

I heard people saying they had fun with it but it wasn't groundbreaking. Just saying that "might" have given it a point in it favor against Splatoon and it lack of 4 player split screen (yeah there's Dojo mode but that doesn't look to hot).

Basically pattern design mode, sharing those via streetpass incoming penis Yoshi design anyone?, Poochy "runner" levels, running at 30/60 FPS on 3DS/N3DS respectively and no mutliplayer.
There will also be some sort of patch to the Wii U version for the Poochy amiibo and whatever it does.
There's also those stop motion shorts of Yoshi and Poohy but those will probably be dumped on YouTube shortly after the game comes out.

The shittiest thing about the Wii U is its lack of memory. Sure, you can buy a hard drive or whatever, but it's pathetic how little memory it comes with by default.

I was genuinely interested in the potential of the Wii U gamepad but people are quick to dismiss it. What I really hate is the authoritarian nature of video game circles.

Wii is a number two. Its huge Library of worthwhile actual games it has despite the fact was marketed as a gimmick and emulators for 7 consoles makes it the most worthwhile machine Nintendo has ever brought out. The other home brew shit besides the ones you need for softmodding and piracy are basically worthless nowadays.

I genuinely dont know if I can say you should. There are some good games on it, the gamepad is comfy, but at the same time it becomes a dust collector really fast.

How hard is it to hack a Wii-U? Anything cool you can do with it?

No way the Switch will have as much battery life as the 3DS though so that's a point in its favor. Also it's probably a hell of a lot cheaper to develop for.

The bulk of the money Nintendo makes is from licensing on top of whatever profit they make from their consoles. They have to actually sell the console to get devs to actually make games for it so that they can get that licensing money, hence the shiny gimmick. They only need to support to that degree which is what happened with the Wii. I don't think they make that much money off of the games themselves comparatively.

Shit, I think WiiU's virtual has gotten more attention even after they found exploits into the Wii U.
The only thing I"ve done with it is some Sm4sh mods for a day then got bored but thats it.

You know, I still believe that the Wii U could have been an awesome console. There's was a lot of great game ideas they could have implemented, but they simply didn't. Ultimately, it was killed by Nintendo's own unwillingness to commit to their system.

Consider this, Breath of the Wild is coming out in 2017, when Skyward Sword came out in late 2011. Unless the game is really taking 6 years to develop, this probably means that they didn't start "real" development until sometime in 2013-2014. What the hell were they doing in late 2011 to mid 2013 then? If Nintendo themselves was so hesitant to start new game projects, why on earth would they think 3rd parties would fill in the gaps?

I really hope they don't repeat these sort of mistakes with the Switch, but it already looks like that is the case. If the leaked specs are true, then they aren't even trying with the hardware.

This logic only works if they GPU is used exclusively for rendering, which is becoming increasingly untrue with newer games. Games with hardware accelerated physics won't scale like this, for example.
