Of course there are other examples, but typically they're pushed along by pre-existing socialist states. We seem to be lacking in those.

Sanders was a nobody representing the 8th most Bumfuck state in the country (behind Alabama, just edging out Maine), and he was the target of a relentless, often absurdly over the top smear and blackout campaign from the entire media, and he was running against the Heir Apparent and proespective First Female President (women constitute a decent majority of the electorate).
