Hardcore competitive fighting games are very niche. If those games are about some even more niche like a bunch of anime that western audiences don't even know exist (as points out) it's an even smaller market.

On top of that, if the game has a shit training mode, no decent story, unlocks, or general replayability (as if the problem with most fightan games) there's even less reason to buy it unless people really want to play online against the 3 other people who bought the game, or get their ass kicked by foreign NEETs.

If it were a character action game or an RPG or something else, it might have basic weeaboo appeal.. but it's just a bad idea otherwise.

It's an interesting airdasher. Not as deep as Guilty Gear, but a fun little side game. Disappointed that they use Ruili instead of Kong Taoluo like Nitro Royale did.

What's wrong with it? It has fast assist and character switching, is already better than many other assist based fighting games. The replay-ability is a factor for those that play fighting games seriously, not casuals that sit there and jack off to anime all day. Of course, I am both, but a small minority, so I agree that it's an odd choice, as the only other guy I know that likes Fate/Zero is a casual that thinks fighting games are too hard and doesn't go to tournaments.

Getting better at the game is the replayability. Fighting against others is all you really need. It has been like this forever.

If we're talking business? It's a arcade game. It gets its sales over a long period of use in arcades. Now something like a Musou would definitely generate more sales but I would rather have a fighter. Then again, I find most Musou games boring and love fighters because most Musou games don't have much effort put into the combat outside of Sengoku Basara. I definitely didn't know most of the characters in this game besides Saber, Muramasa, Sonico, Heart, Saya, and Homura. However I saw the combat and got it just for that. Simple to pick up and I like how it flows. Also there aren't many characters in fighters in general that play like Ouka or Sonico.

For the gameplay. If you only buy games where you already know the character then it really limits your catalog of games to play. I don't need story or such to enjoy the characters in a fighter. There battle cries, stances, and moveset is all I need to determine if I'll like them or not.

Let's be fair, that's probably the worst part of the game. I'm glad they brought back Ruili's seiyuu, but she can get a little obnoxious when making fighting noises. Probably my own fault for spamming her DP, though.

I can vouch for this. I went to one convention in my life, and it was full of people who had only seen EVA and Bebop. They wouldn't have the first clue who any of these characters are with the exception of Saber.

Wide variety of dedicated assists you can choose. Skullgirls and Marvel have assists as well, of course, but you have to actually learn 2 new characters to use thsoe.

Fate/Zero fans are a mistake.

Mainly the Vanishing Shield mechanic, 2 assists, aerial rolls, and the.custom the lv 2 super.

The Vanishing Shield is essentially like forcing the class system from Arcana Heart or Fighting Climax. Which means both players can cancel out nearly any move when the shield is hit with many options. Like a jump, roll, super, normal, assist, or special attack. The person who activated the shield however gets nearly a 4 frame advantage. The Vanishing Shield can be held up indefinitely until it takes one hit in which you have to activate it again. It nullifies chip damage too.

Because the enemy can grab you out the shield which will make the grab unbreakable and many characters can combo from grabs. Some without assist cancels or bursting. Also it resets both you and your opponent. If the opponent knows you're about to shield they can immediately DP to punish you. If you shield that then they can safely get away or continue attacking because unlike normal blocking, the shield does not push you nor the opponent away from each other. Even in the corner. They could just roll too which will ignore some moves you throw out to punish them. Spamming the shield is a quick way to make you're constantly on the defensive and lose. Mixing blocking and shielding is the way to go.

The 2 assist thing is self explanatory though assists are very powerful in this game and can easily turn the tables. The weaker the assist the faster it recharges which means you can cancel more attacks to add pressure, chain longer combos, or make risky moves safe. The stronger ones usually have a long start up even after summoning them and take forever to recharge. The meta of the game is to use weak assists to constantly keep the enemies on their toes or powerful assists, 3 meter, and a burst (to make the combo unburstable) to completely blow up the opponent in 1 once they're at 50% health.

Anyway the aerial rolls allow you to do 2 thing. First you can use it as a pseudo second air dash that's also projectile invincible. You can use it to cross up opponents while above them or get closer to zoning characters like Saya or Ouka. When you powerup via burst. Any special move that connects can be cancelled with a roll. DP roll loops can rack up a ton of damage.

The custom lv 2 supers are something similar to V-groove I guess. You input every attack for the super giving you 4 different supers depending on what you do. Or you can fake out people by stopping half way. Many of these supers make a unique combo so even if someone is blocking it you can throw out an over head or command grab. Ein, Ouka, and Homura's are especially dangerous because of this. Some characters cross up with it like Homura, who teleports behind you to start the attack. Nothing personal…kid

Most of the Nitroplus visual novels never came over or aren't even fan translated as far as I know. It would make sense that people wouldn't know these characters unless they got an anime. People who pay attention to visual novels will easily recognize them though. I'm still new to VNs so I had no idea who many of the characters were.

Muramasa and Demonbane are godlike if you like mecha. Kikokugai is so edgy it's pretty much the anti-VN, so it's certainly an interesting experience.
