It's got better resolution than the riftHDK2, and they weren't kidding about the screen door reduction either, this unfourtonately leads to me noticing the blur caused by the resolution more, and the smearing on things like the steam UI is just bad. but all in all, it meets my expectations, and though I would have gotten a better product next year and just might, who knows what the price will be then I knew what I was getting into, and I feel like that, even with the god awful setup and learning curve learning curve I have yet to even near the top of for SURE I got the best product for my money right now.

OSVR is intended to be used by entities who want to buy a hundred headsets at a time with support or bundle it with their product not by the general public. They may call their headset the Hacker Development Kit and call their software stack Open Source but it's intended for corporate or government clients not the VR enthusiast community. It's a good niche to target in this market since they can't compete with Valve or Facebook.

Did the OP make a mistake in buying into this platform? Probably but it's not a huge loss and many games should work on it, the Vive is still far too expensive and reliant on Steam to be viable alternative. If I had to buy a VR headset right now instead of waiting I'd seriously consider it.

My main concern is once the cheaper version of the Vive V1.5 and that garbage Microsoft 1080p HMD comes out the OSVR will get even less attention and support.

Honey Select and Playclub has an openVR mod for it. 3D Custom Maid 2 i think has it supported officially. Besides those you've got a bunch of shitty MMD mods and really bad shovelware made by western devs.

Make your own, just download Unity, OSVR plugin for Unity, import some MMD models and sex animations. Done. Regretfully that's the best you get now.

Making something like a short looping scene in SFM and rendering it in 3d seems like it'd be a lot less hassle. Going from never having used it before you could get results in a few hours instead of days to make something slightly more interactive in Unity. More models to choose from as well.

Really what's the difference between prerendered and rendered in real time if you're just going to watch 3d models go through an animation cycle? That's all that Liru 'game' everybody was hyped about was, a series of looping animation you could select.

Op here, i have the same fears, but OSVR has good compatability with other HMD periferals, so hopefully it can keep up with the competition and stay relevant.

I use OSVR as a display replacement / desktop visualizer. It's just another display type and it should be marketed as such, which is one of the biggest downfalls of the so called "vr era"

I mean you could in theory accomplish this on your own. Lots of engines are good to go with HMD's right out of the box.
