Okay; let's go over some reasons I think.

1: FUCKTACULAR DLC
We don't need to start on this. everybody knows; everybody heard what they wanted to; and everybody screamed about it. This wasn't something I cared about; but they had shitloads of free DLC in the pipe for S1, not just the paid characters and skins. I jumped straight to the game because I didn't give a shit about this part; it wasn't the game itself. Nobody in their right fucking mind would defend a SECOND SEASON PASS.

2: Learning Curve, causing a deceptive "boring repetitive shallow gameplay"- however this may be also attributed to how same-y the modes were.
Evolve was a bit different; the monster was, again, faster by a considerable margin, was a goddamn boss, and there was a wide variety of other factors. The tutorial in Stage 2 helped to alleviate this some; but too little too late. people still kept running circles after a monster that was far faster than they; rather than predict where it was going and cutting them off.

3: 4v1, idiotic design choices, and general ineptitude.
As much as I love the game for what it is; the thing had so much mistreatment of it's fanbase that it is insulting. 3000 keys for founders? That's fucking nothing. Removing dome sounds and making them undodgable? Fuck is this? Arena should not have taken that long to make… Fucking ESPORTS? IN THIS SORT OF GAME? Retards.

4: My stupid ass being baited into the threads in the first place. I just thought people would of loved it like I had; but that was clearly not to be the case.

1- Toby Fox recorded songs for Homestuck.
2- Since some of the monsters are anthropomorphic animals, it attracted furries. Including one furry artist that gave enough money to UT's Kickstarter to insert his fursona into the game.
3- Tumblr loved so much the gay characters that there are entire fan "alternate universes" of Undertale.
4- The game itself has a lot of secret stuff, and a lot of vague and unanswered questions. This attracted all autists in the world, with Reddit forums devoted to datamining UT.
5- Game Theory milked the game as much as it was possible, infamously giving a copy to the Pope.

I really liked the game (specially the music), but I know its popularity has other factors.

really? i recall several custom maps where one player was randomly chosen to be the monster, some such maps they would appear to be a normal player with a secret monster identity.
i always thought they had the potential to be fun but usually ended up kind of lousy because the humans could just stick together and obliterate the monster if they tried anything since they usually had to rely more on catching isolated players, but there was never much reason to split up. i probably just sucked.

the best such map was the one where there were 2 entire teams of monsters, and one or maybe two powerful paladins on a third team, who i dont think had a victory condition. the teams would raid villages to eat humans and try to avoid being killed by the paladin while hindering the other team if they could. the only other thing i recall is how everyone was some kind of vampire or night creature, so the day/night cycle probably played a huge role.

I don't even know about any DLC for Evolve. I just know that very many people were unhappy with the class system/matchmaking and how it often didn't let you play what you wanted, the amount of content and the half-assed transparent moneygrab e-sports pushing. wouldn't know for sure though. never played the game because it looked like garbage from the start and REQUIRING friends for a good experience is never ever a good thing from a video game for me because I want to decide when I play and not ask around for others hoping their schedule and willingness match mine.

It was only mildly bad in my opinion. The big problem was that the matches were just unbalanced, either the monster fucked everyone in the first few seconds, the hunters killed the monster in the first minute, or they spent five minutes just chasing him around until they were ready to fight. This meant the games were either too fast, or too long and boring, as the hunters had nothing to do while the monster was off eating shit except to just follow him endlessly.

A shame OP won't leave his thread to the professionals. It really shows he isn't from around here, defending this piece of shit long after this board fucking buried it.

It boiled down to your hunter team knowing what the fuck they were doing. There was countless instances of skilled play; but really, it fell to a case of piss-poor attention span and unwillingness to learn how the game functioned; as many assumed it to be a "Hold down sprint and shoot!" dumbed down FPS, It wasn't, it was one that required a lot of co-ordination and teamwork as hunters, and a lot of skill as monster.
