Best Tomb Raider Game

As someone who grew up playing tomb raider games I couldn't stand the ps2 one that changed everything and made the controls feel like shit.
Tried the reboot and it doesn't even feel like a tomb raider game at all anymore, replace lara with whats his face from uncharted and it could just be another uncharted game.
So basically if lara has spiky polygon tits then its a good tomb raider game.

The perception of Tomb Raider here generally shows there's still a lot of people who have never really understood games…. It's better than other places, but it still shows how games became ultimately shit in the end. What was good about them were more happy accidents it seems.

This is probably why most discussion about Tomb Raider devolves into just staring at her body and not really discussing the games. It's disappointing but what can you do with this series. It's only claim to fame is a hot protag and the competition has done better puzzles, action and platforming.

Revelations was pretty amazing. It had so many new mechanics and puzzle elements, combined with hub world areas and a lot of reward for exploration.

Give some examples of the competition.

Tomb Raider 1-3 great games that introduced Lara Croft and several great gameplay designs.
The Last Revelation and Chronicles were a great send off to the first-era of Tomb Raider, more of the same but very refined how they made them.
Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was a goddamn missed opportunity when they just went for the edgy supernatural storyline that was prevalent in television during that time with the devs not knowing where to take Lara, and fuck the camera and controls.
Tomb Raider Legends, Anniversary, and Underworld, great games, but they never managed to get the same reception during the fifth gen games, only Legends was successful commercially then it went tumbling down and Eidos was shitting itself.

Reboot series, Lara Croft went from sex symbol female badass to goddamn feminist hero written by a bunch of lesbians, new games are just refined gameplay cinematic shit from Uncharted.

The controls were really fucking bad because of a few retarded decisions, I think you can mod them back to something less terrible on PC, other than that the game itself isn't the worst

Well platformers in general are for one. If you want 3rd person action-platforming, there's always Ratchet and Clank. If you want third person action, there's lots of them now. The point is, I think as time goes on, the series in general has already been outclassed. Probably not by direct competitors that were released head to head against the original Tomb Raider games, but a lot of games that have come out since have done it better, and the series cannot hold out on its own against newer games unlike Doom or Banjo Kazooie.

If I want to jump around and shoot stuff, I can always play DMC or R&C. If I want to jump around, I can always play Banjo Kazooie or even the 3D Sonic games. I'll still emulate the original trilogy to understand the games more.

My personal favourite is Legend but I'll acknowledge that it's not that amazing objectively speaking. The actual best is probably 1 or 2, I'd pick 1 since it did a better job at atmosphere and loneliness.

R&C is a great example. I see your point. I really wish for more games like R&C that aren't Armed and Dangerous

Its been one of those series that I never think super highly of, but then its never been something bad or overrated. The games have been pretty consistent at doing what they do.

Aside from Lara's physical appeal I liked how she was an adrenaline junkie. Lara discovers antique civilizations and fights ancient evil entities while conventional rich fucks go sky diving or base jumping.
She does so by wearing nothing but a bathing suit and is only armed with two 9 mm pistols.
I only used medi packs when I absolutely had to and always equipped the standard pistols. The more fun it was using the other guns with infinite ammunition on second playthrough.

To me the best one will always be the original first one, it captured the sense of isolation and dread perfectly with carefully placed enemies to keep you on edge and while TR2 was great they turned the game into a fucking third person shooter with, most of the time, human enemies fucking everywhere, destroying everything that was good about the first game.

The one thing I hated about them, were the mandatory QTE events, that if you didn't press correctly would kill Lara.

I like how they turned the most iconic enemy encounter from the first game into a Crash Bandicoot boss battle that you defeated in a qte.

Legend, Anniversary and Underworld are all pretty decent.

ThinkBlackAdder's Lara **Clone* is best.
