I enjoyed the Episode Duscae demo. Then the Platinum demo came out, and it felt like they dumbed down the whole gameplay. In Duscae it wasn't hold X to attack. They did add aerial combat in Platinum but it didn't feel useful against the boss. I'd say the game is going to be shit relative to the hype, but might be worth picking up on sale.

In the judgement demo I think holding the button was an option, but actually timing the presses ended up being way more effective. Enemy attacks don't usually have any tells so you have to react quickly. Switching weapon seems way more useful.

Platinum demo was way too easy and had me a bit worried about the combat as well. Judgement restored my faith.

The combat seems pretty simplistic (but satisfying) if they add in ways to "program" your allies similar to dragon age origins, and put in some actual challenge, it has the potential to be a great game. i love the setting of driving around during the end of the world.

Why was President Shinra killed, anyway? And who really killed him? Because it's obvious that it wasn't Sephiroth, there's no reason for him to have left his sword at the scene and the President wasn't any obstacle to his plans.

Cloud killed him. The entire game got set in motion because Cloud got too close to Jenova when they were rescuing Aerith, fell under her influence and broke her out of the lab. This is why the door of your cell in the Shinra building is open.

What a lot of people miss is that the Sephiroth you see, the one who kills Aerith, is just a projection through Jenova cells in either parts of the corpse or ex Soldiers like Cloud. He's dreaming in the North Crater the whole time.

JENOVA did, left the sword there too so Cloud would see it and decide to chase Sephiroth to settle the score.

I heard Holla Forums praise it, so I bought it for my friend and I. We played through it and it seemed pretty dull. Just a regular co-op shooter. And the ending was pretty lackluster from what I remember. You clear out the home base and then go through some portal and just restart the entire game. I will admit I didn't pay much attention to the story or dialog since I was playing co-op but really nothing jumped out at me. I probably wouldn't give the game a second glance if Holla Forums didn't praise it so high. Why do people like this game?

No, remake will be shit. Better to play the original. The new one will not compare to its predecessor, and you can easily download it from emuparadise as well as a ps1 emulator and play it on pc no problem.

Play the original. The only reason to play the remake(and it's not enough of a reason) is to get a better understanding of some scenes because of how vague the models back then made some scenes.

Just start with any of the remakes for the first game. Going in with something like VII will probably make it difficult for you to even bother with the older ones.

You should play 6 first, then play 7. It's pretty amazing to do it in that order and see the pinnacle of SNES RPGs and then the transition to the PS1 that the franchise made.

If you're not a youngfag who has no experience with 2d JRPGs, you can start with the older FF games that correspond with your comfort level as far as older systems go. I, II, and III are 8-bit RPGs, IV, V, VI are 16-bit RPGs. VI is considered a masterpiece in its own right. For definitive versions, that's a longer explanation. Do your own research.

Where FF hit it big is with VII which bridges the gap between new and old. When you break it down, it's a very simple RPG that introduced a lot of gameplay mechanics that made the RPG seem more interactive. VIII is still a very controversial game hence the posts going back and forth about its protagonist Squall. IX is a game that paid homage to its older games from the 80s. X and beyond is a very mixed bag. FF games unless specified in the title are not direct sequels to each other. Although outdated, I recommend seeing this retrospective by GT that predates the release of XIII. It will give you an idea of the series before it went to complete and utter shit.

You must understand I played the hell out of FF12. Multiple playthroughs. I actually began a couple of self imposed challenge playthrougs there at the end but I ended up aboting them because I couldn't keep to the itinerary because of how the game is structured. Being forced into classes, even broken ones, will help facilitate what I want. Also I'm curious how the "no leveling up" mode works and boss trial mode too.

VI is a meme game, and suffers from some pretty significant issues ranging from poor pacing, lack of narrative cohesion and player direction (especially in the second part), to messy pixel art which can make it difficult to tell which are pathable areas or doorways, and which are just static background.

It's not Final Fantasy, but if you want to play the pinnacle of 16bit RPGs, I'd suggest Phantasy Star IV or Chrono Trigger instead. PSIV also introduced a really nice feature of being able to talk to your party members for reminders on what you were supposed to be doing in case you forgot between sessions, or got side-tracked with other quests - which was really fucking handy, and it had much more fleshed out characters, better world building, and a fucking great macro system that allowed you to set up the entire parties combat actions to be triggered with one selection… and was great for making sure combo attacks went off reliably.

While I agree with your second paragraph (though I am somewhat ignorant of PS4), I'd dispute the first paragraph about the pacing. It seems quite fine and keeps up a brisk pace.

Though I won't fight you about the art making pathable areas difficult to figure out. I was disturbed by how often I found myself trying to walk down what clearly seemed to be a path, but wasn't.

Follows the same formula of almost every FF after it and set some new standards. Very tightly paced and somewhat railroaded first part of the game that opens up to let you do what you want in the second half of the game. Doesn't really have classes in the traditional sense as everybody through espers can learn all the magic, but they do have cool unique abilities none the less. Something that 7 and 8 got wrong in my opinion as it made for little difference between characters aside from limit breaks.

Hard for me to recommend it now because it was one of my favorites growing up but does have a few issues no doubt. Conflicting opinions man.
