The combat gameplay is fucking bad.
I'm ready to turn the difficulty down to the lowest setting just so I can skip the shit. The recovery time system is bad and discourages using heavy melee characters. Combine that with there being no friendly fire, all enemies are health sponges, and combo moves outclassing everything else by far, and the combat is a steaming pile of shit.

The sad thing is, the story and setting are ALMOST great. The setting of a land conquered by this all powerful mysterious overlord who comes bringing authoritarian peace and order by way of two unique and interesting armies is a refreshing and cool setting.

The problems start to crop up when it looks like someone shoved a gender diversity quota onto the writers. Inexplicably, half of the Disfavored (an army of mostly heavy troops that use tactics similar to the Roman legion) are women, even though these fighters are hand picked for their strength and martial prowess from the families of the North.

Well to continue off of , the game is pretty good. It's easy to pick up and is accessible, even if you're not familiar with games of the genre.

The game takes place a long time after some giant fucking disaster happened. Nobody really knows what and it's obvious that the surface is uninhabitable, but this is all implied and the game takes place many many generations after whatever disaster occurred (some people don't know if a surface world actually exists). People are living in these underground bunker communities, each their own faction or outpost. Some are part of this "United Stations" business, but the one your character joins at the start of the game just wants to stay neutral. You can get around from place to place by either walking around through some caves and underground lakes which cut through some old subway lines and shit. There are also railways, so trains are very important as they are the primary means to deliver supplies/get around (to the point where it has affected the language people use. Instead of "are you retarded?" or "that's crazy!" they'll say stuff like "Are you derailed?"). Some people also live in a massive junkyard or huge foundry-city or giant iron structure.

The combat is pretty standard. You can equip two weapons and some throwables (grenades, throwing knives, nets, traps) on your person/belt (if you're wearing one). Different ammo for different guns. Later on you can get shields, but they have to be recharged with batteries (As do utilities [electronic door hackers, goggles, etc] and some guns) which decrease damage based on how fast whatever hit you was going (shield is more reactive to faster objects like bullets). There are also different ammo types, some you can only get by crafting them yourself. The game runs on an action points system and you gotta roll initiative to see who attacks first. That brings me to stealth, which is absolutely worthless IN combat, but is fantastic in that it lets you scout ahead, plan for a fight, and lets you initiate to get the first attack (with reduced action points for that turn).

There's also Psychers. If you literally take the red pill, you are able to get psychic powers and that uses not-mana. These are actually really useful and there are three kinds (psychokinesis, thermokinesis, and mind control). The only downside to opting in for this is that you take a reduction in max health.
