Levels that make you quit your replay

Is there a level in a game you frequently replay, where, when you get to it you just put the game down because of how bullshit it is?

For me it's the walled off part of the city in Thief 1, because of that motherfucking loot requirement. You need to find 2k of loot out of garbage, and a ton of the loot blends into the background or is in spots that seem like a glitch in the map (I remember one watch tower in particular). Plus it's one of the shitty zombie levels.

Kidnapped from thief 2 always puts me off replaying the game

As a kid, I often made a new game on Pokémon Crystal.

The only thing I was dreadful about was the Rocket puzzle where you have to open/close doors. It took me hours and I was constantly stuck at that part.

Is that Minecraft?

...

Most Japanese games. Doesn't matter what genre. Fact is it's going to be padded with passive watching. There are exceptions.

Minecraft wishes it looked that good.

...

?

I guess he hates the sewer part of RE4

He didn't save the right kind of ammo and weapon to kill spider man, otherwise it's just you waiting out a timer trying not to get hit.

Just keep the rocket launcher from the gallery, silly. It oneshots verdugo when he's frozen.

This tbh, is a fucking casual.

Right kind of ammo and weapon? I thought every weapon works? I always kill him

You are asking to be bullied, spoiled consolebaby. Git gud and stop whining.

Taris and Peragus Station in the KotOR games, but there are mods to skip them and give you all the loot.

High damage weapons when he's frozen will work, but once the tanks run out your options are severely limited without consuming large amounts of ammo.

But Taris is the best zone in the game, and is the only one that feels finished.

Playing where's waldo with tiny loot hidden in garbage it blends in with perfectly really takes a lot of skill, and absolutely no one just memorizes where everything is or looks it up.

Thieve's Guild is a worse level for a replay. If The Lost City wasn't so annoying to find loot in it would be fine.

Spoiled with good levels?

Hey man here's an idea for a stealth game how about a few levels where you don't actually need to sneak around

Also The Lost City might be annoying to replay but it's pretty enjoyable the first time around. Thieves Guild sucks dick even in the first playthrough.

Obviously the mission is actually The Haunted Cathedral, not The Lost City. I always fuck that up.

Well you don't have to replay the Thieves' Guild at all if you're playing the TDP version

True but I'd assume most in this day and age are playing Thief Gold. I also rather enjoy the horror levels in Thief and feel the sequel is worse for moving away from supernatural elements.

As a kid Labyrinth Zone made me not want to bother to clear the rest of the game.

I never understood why everyone hated the Thieves guild, other than the process of actually getting to the guild is linear as fuck.

I remember down in the bonehoard went from one of my most hated, to one of my favorite levels just because of the atmosphere.

The backtracking and generally boring nature of the tunnels is what annoys me most but otherwise the level adds nothing to the game that isn't done better elsewhere. The general feel is of a very well done but out of place mod than of a level that is part of the story. The Mage's Towers has a similar problem but I don't mind replaying that anywhere near as much.

It's one I've personally come to appreciate more when replaying, possibly because it feels less like a maze when you know what you're doing.

I have played thief but I can see where you're coming from

True that.

holy molly that's a nice get.

How much fucking DEX did they have? You could never hit them. God help you if Kreia couldn't cast insanity.

ctrl+alt+shift+end will skip the level.

These levels are the death of me, and of the pleasant memories I have of these games.

This is truth in fiction, don't bash dumpster diving till you've tried it fam

After Green Hill Zone, this world feels like running into miles of backed-up traffic. Doesn't matter whether the devs "intended" the game to be all about speed or not. This slow, plodding puzzle solving just isn't fun.

At least it has kickass music.

Labyrinth Zone can fuck right off.

R-Type III is a great game otherwise but the first stage is way too slow, long, and easy.

It can be done, as I can attest personally. Point where in this playthrough the loot is impossible to notice.

...

...

Honestly, it's always the first level of classic Sonic games that dissuade me from replaying it. I love Emerald Hill Zone but I just can't do it again.

I did it my first run, but I can't stand wasting time looking for hidden shit so I skip it anytime I replay Thief 1

...

Also a time when it's impossible to find. I specifically remember a necklace on a pile of leaves it blends in perfectly with. He actually passes it at 43:47.

underage out

He could have been three years old when it came out and still be able to post here

This isn't halfchan. Underage people can post here. Lurkmoar newfag. Fucking n00bs.

They can post here on some boards, this board however is 18+.

He still has completed the mission on expert. It wasn't necessary to find 100% of the loot. Someone else might find it without reading internet guides, that doesn't mean it's impossible.

I'm 23, retard.

FUCK

Nigga just upgrade the magnum capacity if you already used its ammo up completely (which you shouldn't have, as there's nothing up to that point which ACTUALLY calls for the fucking magnum)

You can pretty easily kill him without the rocket launcher

...

I'm with you 100% on this. That is an excellent level. I also really enjoyed Return to the Cathedral for the same reason.

At least there's a mod that skips that completely.

They are all fine. It gets shit at Escape!, though.

I didn't say it was impossible. It's tedious as fuck.

Not a level per se but definitely Bed of Chaos, Izalith on its own isn't that bad

That entire place was fucked, if only the actual building was larger.

Nobody fought those things, not even on their first run.

...

I think it's the worst zone in the game. It's clear they ran out of time and couldn't do much with the zone. The dino asses are worthless so you just run past them, then in the main area you fight the statue enemies which at the point in the game are pushovers. Only cool mob are the tentacle guys with all the eyes.

I dont think you guys played it before they severely nerfed the place

...

Xen is god-tier when compared to the diarrhea of second half of Unforeseen Consequences, On Rail and Residue Processing.

This obnoxious cave ruins my playthroughs every time.

Cave of Bad dreams in Rayman 2.
There's one section where you need to go on 2 split off paths to bring back a blue and yellow orb to open the door in the middle and that section of the game is so fucking boring it puts me off starting the game again.

But I've played the game on almost every system 100% so it's not like I haven't played it enough already.

I just don't like all the shit with the rakghouls and the sewer.

I like the bits where you see the nightmares your party members are having, but outside of that, the fade is shit.

It's definitely rushed but it's still manageable and not a big hassle to go through, but fighting BoC is what makes me regret getting that far in the first placed

It's not even hard, it's just a hassle that drains my will to continue.

Agreed, these are tedious and drag on way too long.

The Fade is a fucking meme at this point.
But yes, it sucks balls on replays.

...

I personally love everything in the game except Xen.

This reminds me, am I the only one who likes levels like 'Down in the Bonehoard?' I find exploring and raiding abandoned structures really cool. Using rope arrows to do some platforming, keeping an eye out for traps, navigating using an incomplete map and some clues scattered around, and not getting mauled by some undead. I find it really cool and kind of comfy.

Name worse sewer level than the Hollywood Warrens.

Protip:You probably can, but only from some obscure shovelware game that only you played

I don't know why that area gets so much hate. It gave me a reason to bother with the guns in the game since you cannot drain blood from the creatures in that level. I either use disciplines or stealth my way through the rest of the game. That and the Giovanni area are the shoot em up areas for me. Changes the pace from what I am normally doing

Taris is the best part of the game arguably, second best being Tatoiine. I agree with you on Peragus though, it's very dull and it doesn't help that the next place is even more boring.

It's a maymay, nothing else. First time I played the only thing I disliked was crawling through the few vents because it's tedious. But there's no difficulty there. If anything would make me quit Vtmb it's Chinatown.

everytime.

This so much. I could beat Opposing Force in one sitting, but Half-Life is a whole different story. If I'm not in the right mood that chapter will just make drop the game. It's not even difficult, it's just so boring.

I don't get it.

Nah brah. I said a little bit later int he thread I liked it to.

It's really hit or miss.

I'm actually stuck on my latest replay on Lost City. I got everything else done but the loot, and now I seem to have trouble getting back to the first areas. I think there's a drawbridge of some kind in one of the houses with mages, but the lever didn't react in anyway so I just used a glitched jump to get across the lava. Now I can't seem to get back. It's been 10 years since I last played mind you.

Ah, that's cool. But yeah, I've seen a lot of people shit on it and I really don't think it gets enough love.

Why this game has to have such a slow start? Before you start getting the perks and decent weapons so you can in turn do cool and silly shit, the game is a fucking drag, I find even the survive aspect that is more is more present at low levels to be too shallow.

I tried changing how you get perks every 2 levels to just only 1, but you actually end up losing the mid game, as your character gets overpowered too fast the only bad thing gameplay wise in FONW

The first towns and quests gets pretty boring after 20 times you complete`em

I like "On A Rail". Do I have shit taste?

BEAVER BOTHER
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVERRR BOOOOOOOOOOOOOTHHEEEEERRRRR

Fuck Gloomy Galleon, too. Especially the Pufferfish boss, who tag teams you with the camera.

Seriously, why is DK64's camera so bad? Banjo Kazooie is nearly perfect.

Are you playing Gold or the original game? In the original game this was a fairly common occurrence and many got stuck, Gold added a way to get back out.

I remember that you have to lean forward and then mantle up to cross the lava back.

If that's the case, you just adjust the curve. Start with a few perks at the very beginning, and gain them slower, so you have about the same at mid and a bit less at the end.

Also worth noting that zombies in the original game were much more annoying than they were in Gold which explains a lot of the hate they get from older players. Gold lets you put zombies to sleep for a bit with two overhead swings, original game the fuckers keep getting back up almost immediately. The Gold vs TDP argument is one that's been going on for over a decade but little improvements like that are why I'd also recommend Gold to a new player.

Guns work on those things? I only ever used melee weapons because the game said bullets weren't very effective against supernatural creatures.

Early game guns are shit against anything supernatural. Once you get higher skill and better weapons they work fine.

Go back to your salon, Ventrue cuck.

Every Fucking Time

DK64 and Banjo were made by different teams iirc. Look up the dev commentary on youtube for Conker's Day Out.

I frequently replay Mass effect trilogy, then I remember pic related and I quit before I launch me1.

Does Dolphin still have an issue with invisible Punies and preventing you from completing the game after a certain point in that area?

you can get to the dinosaur butts?

WHEN YOU HAVE TO CATCH THE FUCKINGS DOGS M8

Jesus this one is just a fucking pain to get through.

At least the "water" levels in Sonic 2 wasn't so bad. Chemical Plant and Aquatic Ruin was okay

It's a pity you can't buy specialized ammo against said supernatural creatures.

I'd say it's the Griffith Park for me.

It was nerve wracking even after I have figured out that you can crush him in the doors of the observatory.

Something like the last demonstration in this vid would be perfect against kindred and of course silver against garou. Kuei-jin would still be a bother.

this, so very much. Idk what it is, maybe it's the shitty partner, the tree-dweller thingies, idk, but I really dislike this chapter.

ROM

To be fair, OF is a 2 hour long game. HL1 is at least 3x as long.

you cant really blame him from the thumbnail in the catalog

Dragon's Eye, Icewind Dale
First time I played through as a kid I didn't get past it, as an adult it's still a drag tbh

I could never beat this sequence when I was a kid. I tapped as fast as I could, me and my sister both, and failed every time. Never finished it.

I had my brother do it for me. He made it look easy.

That's because it has rubber banding. if you mash as fast as you can at the start it's just going to match you and stay there until you fuck up. It's piss easy if you start slow and then speed up.

This has to be one of the worst levels ever designed, probably because it was only made in the span of three-four hours. Yet it's the level that comes after which is the cherry on the cake.

my thoughts exactly when looking at the thumbnail

sonic has always been shit

now that's a great post

Was literally about to post the same thing.

It's not the combat you fags, it's the fact that it's so fucking LONG. Every playthrough, I've gotten lost in there. The maps of the place are too few in between, and the lack of landmarks and boring long drains can lead you back to the beginning of the level. Either 2 or more hours, EVERY PLAYTHROUGH.

IIRC one of the endgame shotguns is loaded with Dragon's Breath phosphorous rounds

Some of the guns are good.

...

Its the fact that the combat is fucking shit and you are forced to go through a featureless gauntlet that has nothing interesting in it.

...

...

I'm not sure that's even remotely possible. I've played vtmb three times now and every time the sewers are just walking through with no problems. I can't even comprehend the fact that one might get lost there since it's all straight forward.

the theme kind of sucks too

It was modded in recently, not in the original release.

Diabo 2 Act 2
Fuck desert levels

I know, but if you do not know ahead of time about freezing him or simply don't have enough ammo for the magnum the amount of ammo it'll take to hit him let alone damage him isn't worth the effort so it simply becomes a game of chicken until the elevator arrives which can be a turn off for a replay.

I just played both levels, once I found the SMG and realized a canister appears at a certain dead end my ability to beat the level improved greatly and I said "fuck exploration" and just sped through it as quickly as possible. Then it was simply a matter of grabbing the canister on the next level and making a beeline for the air recharger there but fuck me going in blind was not pleasant., and I didn't even realize the next one was also zero G too until I heard the beep the first time.

I still replay each of them every now and then, but I rarely make it all the way through.

Pussies. I use up all the liquid nitrogen tanks and wail on it with my shotfun. If need be, I'll continue firing at the xenomorph even when I run out of LN tanks.

Using the rocket launcher is for weaklings and only the most contemptibly craven of cowards run for the elevator without shattering the beast into ignominious, insignificant ice cubes, melting into oblivion.

All of the car driving mission in Jak 3. So mind numbingly boring that I dont even bother picking it up.

Cant believe no one has posted this

...

people have though you baka

Fuck the start of this level.

Fuck I'm retarded

How can you say that and not prioritize Act III?!

codemasters really lost it, thankfully i pirated this piece of shit

That was not Rare's first offense.

ME1 and 2 are quite enjoyable, even 3 to a degree, as long as you ignore the ending and half of the story.

Finally someone links the superior upload of the BT OST

Yeah, if you fully remember which way to go every time. There are parts where there are passages that lead to no where, and obscure puzzels (the part where you are first introduced to chimeras and have to jump off the platform onto a ledge with the vent) combined with bloodlines slow ass runspeed, boring sewage corridors with no real way to remember where you were going can make everything a chore.

...

...

So, the whole game, basically.

...

Last time I replayed Sonic Adventure, this purple son of a bitch almost made me quit. Who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to put a bunch of fishing stages in an action game?

My vague memories of that awful shit actually prevents me from giving it another playthrough.

Sounds like you two Noobs never got this.

Moon Flower Palace

Do people actually enjoy rearranging their inventory every 5 seconds?

SH4: The Room starts out really strong, but when you realize the second half is 75% "escort Eileen through those area again", it makes you lose motivation. Also her suicidally confident AI.

This game has a lot of frustrating segments, but this one I hate the most.
No matter which version I played, I always, ALWAYS die at that weird curve where you clip through, until I get lucky.

Depends user, what other levels did you like in HL

I know that feel. 8 levels of puzzles and not even good scenery to look at, just brown walls

Honestly never understood the hate over this level.

It's long, and slow. It only has brown dirt walls and the heads, puzzles are repetitive, it's like forcing you to a coma after visiting interesting stuff like a village raided by pirates and another village full of werewolves

Nothing actually interesting happened in the furry village.

...

Literally every Euro Extreme playthrough of MGS2 I start, I quickly give up cause I remember Bosses do 1-shot instakills. This is the only game in the series that does this.

I mean unless you're going for no rations at all you have 3 hits in extreme per-boss.

I found the fact that their gimmicks were turned up to 11 to be far shittier than the damage.

I dont even think there ARE rations in Euro Extreme.

In my Twin Snakes playthrough, I've just gotten to the Heli battle, and I still havent found a single Ration, and yes, I've been looking.

I know extreme doesn't have any lying around and euro extreme stops you from getting them to drop from regular guards but I could have sworn you can get some to drop from the alert response teams.

...

...

All me.

This one.

The music sucks, the pacing sucks, the gunplay sucks.

And playing the same tune over and over with the same animations? Yeah no. I love the Stone Tower but that really drags it down.
