Don't focus on racking up kills, that's a trannu trait. Instead, focus on taking and/or defending locations. Do that and the kills will flow naturally.

I'd like to try using semi-auto rifles and shotguns. Any advice on fire discipline?

If you are European, you might suffer badly because of ping, I play at 200 ping but I can still do fine. I don't know about how TR guns work so maybe they simply have terrible spread but I don't have a tough time getting kills with the NC AR.
Everyone has a free shotgun amigo, and the semi-auto battle rifle is 325 certs, which you can get fairly quickly with your early levels. Might want to put a sight onto your guns, the 1x red dot is basically the best because DBG decided to make all the 2x sights (except tranu of course) with terrible transparent colors and no screen space.

Aim for the head, and don't spray. If you are playing a combat medic and healing then you are really only designed to do that. Unless you get the drop and can play tactically then you wont get many kills. When you feel like you are getting one killed in one shot is cause you are playing against STACKED Maxs, and Heavy Assaults, plus some dude could be sniping you. Just keep trying dude, play around with vehicles. Don't waste crets on anything until you find something you like.

But that is the thing, it is competitive designed by suits and businessmen. ASSFAGGOTS isn't a good fucking game. I have 56 hours in it and even when I got invited to play in a semi good situation I did pretty good, didn't need to be carried. As for CS GO, same thing, but both games a SWARMED will baller cap dude bros, try hard IM PRO faggots, and or fucking cancer streamers or mimics trying to be like their favorite streamer. Whatever, most competitive game I have played that felt balance and is still really fucking fun is Warband/Napoleonic Wars. That game is awesome for competitive play.

They're garbage. Play a proper sniper or learn to control your bursts in the sims. Alternatively just try and flank with your shotgun. Game is pretty shit though, and you'll almost never take down a shielder in a 1v1 situation

If you want to be able to kill people in frontline battles, get nanoweave armor 5 or play as a heavy since they start with it unlocked while you learn to headshot. With it, it will take an extra 1-2 bullets to kill you giving you more survivablility. Combat in PS2 is about shooting first and killing your opponent before they damage you. In large battles, losing your shields let alone health, means you either have to sit in cover until you're 100% or not being able to kill people who are at 100%.

Either max out the medic tool and take shots when you know you won't be shot at, roll a heavy or play on the flanks.

What's the downside to the NS revolvers? They have really high damage and only lose out in ammo capacity. Is there a reason NOT to use them?

Something is wrong with hit detection recently and it doesn't seem to be due to the October update. I don't know if this is still the way to go but some people like to use Engineer to farm XP from ammo and repairs and use the cert earnings to max out the medic's healing tool. Also, unless you're Vanu you can get by with sticking to default guns (except for TR's infiltrator) and probably slapping a laser on at most since they are usually great all-rounders.

And definitely max out nanoweave armor (resist boolets) and/or flak armor (explosions and shit everywhere) when you get the chance

They see that it takes a few thousand certs to outfit a single vehicle and then give up on the game completely. I'm seeing either xp increases or lower cert costs, maybe both.

Assuming you aren't dying because of shit hardware (ie. A tranu sneezes and your game freezes for 5 second), I can give you a few tips.

Practice shooting at VR walls with your default guns and learn to control their recoil.

Understand what every one of a weapon's stats means. Damage type (Small arms, Heavy machine gun), RPM, Damage falloff, Muzzle velocity are all important factors to consider.

If you have an advantage over another class, abuse it. Fight under your own shielding device, spam claymemes at every fucking doorway and corner, harass and retreat as a LA.

A fulfilled support role is better than someone playing CS:GOy. Sitting on a Flash (w/ scout Radar) inside a building as a Medic has more impact than running around waiting to get killed.

Be creative. Getting a harasser/flash just to transport people around will get you a mad amount of certs from transport assist ribbons (provided they don't suck dick) and they'll be extremely likely to stick with you because you're a free ride.

If you are in a MAX, you'll want an engineer near at all times.

They're pretty good if you can aim and hit consistently 40%+ and maintain ~30% HSR with them.

If you can't, then use the T4 AMP, which will have similar performance but be more forgiving for missing.

Nothing short of a redesign is going to fix the game. Once you've fought at every base a dozen times there's nothing left to do, you've done everything. Vehicles don't change that because vehicles don't cap bases except Sunderers Armor isn't useful because there's very few bases with enough space between them to make pushing to the next base challenging, air isn't useful because armor isn't useful.

They need to strip out three quarters of the bases except for a few permanent walls and underground areas to serve as starting points for player-built bases and redesign the bases that are left to accommodate more players with more objectives to fight over and make them easier to defend against overpop. Add nanite storage to bases and pipelines from the warpgate, vehicles and spawns and resupplies cost nanites, with junctions to sabotage or blockade or siphon nanites off from. Warpgates need to be takeable too, continent locking is a real pale imitation of what forcing another faction off a continent should be. Use the stripped-out bases to build intermediate islands between continents because some of them honestly aren't bad.

Everything they've done since launch is just shitty patchjob over shitty patchjob over a fundamentally broken game design.

I can't fly at all myself, the Reaver stock LMG is so terrible and hard to use. Any guides to flying?

Mosquito. Speed doesn't mean shit in a game where you can't boom and zoom people.

Don't play like it's a helicopter or traditional airplane. Watch how ESF players fight, they usually hold the brakes (S by default) and hold spacebar while doing this backwards maneuver and hoping you don't hit something.

And don't lose sight of your air target. If you didn't tap Q to spot it you can easily lose your target especially if he outmaneuvered you in an ESF. Get the Hover Frame upgrade and the Rotary cannon or the BRRRTTT gun if you're using the Mossie. Rocket pods may not be the overpowered LOLPODS they were back in the day, but they are pretty alright in softening up infantry and not much else. Other secondary weapons are pretty useless or in a tight niche.

I'm NC, as evidenced by me saying "Reaver".

Then just get the Rotary cannon. Unlike the BRRRRTTT gun on the Mossie, the Airhammer is useless in a dogfight unless you just want an A2G setup

Personally I'd like there to be no automatic repair shit in PS2, only way to repair is if you land and repair it yourself with the tool. It's fucking annoying for both infantry and ESFs, allows you to take too many risks with ESF combat and makes lock on launchers completely worthless because they can just go fly away and infantry can't do jack shit and everyone is still reloading.

Leading a squad and there's lots of air flying around? Tell everyone to pull out their G2A launcher and shoot things. Chances are at least 1/3 of the squad will do this and more than half of the time 2 of them will target the same aircraft at the same time leading to a kill.

This assumes that everyone spent certs on actually getting one of the most important things in the game behind the health/repair tools.

I find the rotary type weapons to be a bit overrated. they used to be fucking phenomenal though. Don't worry about weapons. Flying is all about being able to fly well and having good positioning (and certs of course eheheheh)

As for flying, learn to reverse. Reverse isn't really flying backwards, it just looks like it. It's really just v-thrust and pitching downwards. When you see a dogfight consisting of lots of reversing, you'll notice the bulk of it isn't actually backing up, it's just two retards using v-thrust to fly in a circle and look at each other. For newbie pilots who get baited into following a reverse maneuver, it just seems like they're backing up because they're flying after the curve. If you want to get a feel for what's going on, land on the ground, v-thrust while rolling 90 and pitching down, and hit your afterburners (which will apply to the v-thrust at really low speeds). If you did it right you should be able to hold the afterburner and be doing a crude reverse.

Then just keep practicing this and make it your bread and butter. You'll be able to sustain visual on targets (ground especially) once you get good at it, and use it to give yourself all sorts of positional advantages and agility.

bonus tip: Bind keys to pitch up and pitch down. I don't use this for reversing really, but if you hit the brakes, pitch up/pitch down and vthrust/-vthrust it can make for some really tight turns that can give you the edge you need.

Flying isn't as hard as people make it out to be. It's just when your new you'll fly into a zone and get shredded because you're not used to the positioning and you're missing certs. when you're more experienced you'll have a good feel for what areas are safe to fly in and which aren't. TBH I wouldn't even bother buying any weapons until you're sure you want to be an ESF pilto.

I think I'll stay infantry for now, might invest later after I got the guns and whatnot I want for infantry. Certs from the few kills I got as a pilot were fucking stupid high but I got all of them from even less experienced pilots then me.

They're great if you're good and have a lot of experience in the game and understand all the fundamentals of Planetside 2's combat mechanics.

Playing NC basically requires reading Iridar's weapon mechanics guide on his blog thing.

The great thing is that once you do well with NC's low RoF, high damage weapons, you will be much better with the high RoF, low damage weapons that TR uses, because you have to take advantage of and understand, every little trick in the gameplay mechanics to make NC's weapons work for you.

I don't think anyone here has ever played Megamek or Battletech, but NC is functionally equivalent to the Clans, mechanically. In Battletech you need a complete understanding of positioning, cover, movement modifiers, range brackets, heat curves, and so on if you want to win a fight as a Clanner, otherwise you will get trounced. Inner Sphere has advantages in numbers that allow mistakes; Clans can be fucked over by a single mistake.

NC is the same. You have to learn the ins and outs and when you do, NC is amazing. If you don't; if you make a lot of mistakes, NC is absolute trash.

To give you an idea, there is almost 0 difference between the Gauss Saw and the Godsaw, yet here's their stats:

The Godsaw requires getting 1000 kills on 6 different LMG's; by the time you get it, you should have a pretty good idea how to use NC's weapons. That's the difference that learning the game's mechanics makes.

I have everything turned off or lowest according to potato guide except textures, although that barely matters because textures in this game are dogshit and I got 2 gigs of VRAM. Render distance is 600.

Just avoid zergs and save up money for a better cpu since it's the bottleneck for the game.

The reason an AA max is so fucking good is that you don't become useless the minute the BR 120 tranus leave for easier targets, as you can always resupply into AV or AI. Also you can actually get on top of buildings (Like a Biolab) instead of shooting at aircraft until they hide behind a hill; and don't you dare to fucking forget about lockdown.

Because a single grounder is going to make a difference. You're going to aim a missile and the little shit will just afk outside your range, and when you do get a shot, the missile crashes into an ammo tower.

As a NC main, I mainly go for TR fights because they don't have pinpoint fucking accuracy at long ranges for all of their goddamn weapons, unlike the the spandex faggots.

I have a couple tips for infiltrator/light assault.

Infiltrator:
There are really two types of play styles for this. For long-distance sniping, use a RAMS .50 with straight pullback bolt and a 12x sight. Secondary I usually get a crossbow with motion darts. Suit is hunter cloaking, ammo belt, motion spotter, decoy grenade, and claymores (optional but most useful). Unlike most of the gay VS counterparts, TR snipers have bulletdrop. A trick I made is to mark a slow or non-moving target, find them on the map, and place your personal waypoint. That way, you can find the correct distance and use the correct mil dot. Each dot is 200m. Only come out when cloaked, only uncloak if you are ready to fire, and then cloak again before going to cover. Set up claymores at possible locations if someone sneaks up on you.

For mid range, which I don't do much, get a scout rifle and a submachine gun (use something that all base classes can use to save certs). Hunter cloaking (haven't tried nano-active cloaking), nanoweave/flak armor, motion spotter, EMP grenade, med kit. Stay with a group. This is for more intense battles.

Close range is the most fun and a specialty. Get a silenced submachine gun with an extended magazine and git gud because your primary weapons slot will be disabled for this since you're using stalker armor. Aside from stalker armor, you'll want grenade bandolier, Recon Detection Device, EMP grenade, and some claymores. Leave stalker cloaking on when you infiltrate a base, pausing for it to refresh. Hack turrets first, then you can push your luck with terminals. When it comes to terminals, claymores are extremely useful. I like to put them where you'd least expect it. Stand on a terminal, make sure you're in line with the terminal looking forward, look directly down at the base part and place a claymore right on that shit. You can also do the same thing on capping points. Hack the terminal or cap the point, and the claymore blends right in. Also, use EMP grenades all the time to make taking down multiple guys easy.

Light Assault:
Equip drifter jets, the default shotgun with extended mag, a secondary with a flashlight, adrenaline pump, and you are set. Check behind you frequently, and take it slow when checking behind corners. Get used to hipfire and try shooting while using a jetpack. Aim for the head, and you're the deadliest soldier on the field. Also, get C4 to piss off vehiclefags.

One of the things I've found is good for close-range/medium infiltrator is the TSAR-42. Its inaccurate as fuck at long ranges but will melt pretty much anything short of a MAX with a headshot.

Recoil in this game isn't the problem, it's the massive galaxy sized cone of fire bloom on guns

Literally the only time you can hit one of these faggots at any larger distance is when they are too lazy/shit to strafe away or they don't notice you. Even with max bullet speed on the anchored prowler it takes so long for the shot to reach them that they can just start strafing when I take the shot and they dodge it. At least other tanks need to give up the front facing armor to do the same

Skip the audio repeater part if you're an untacticool scrub who doesn't use the mic for its intended purpose.

They used to have really severe damage falloff compared to the others as a drawback to the whole laser/plasma projectile goes in a straight line all the time shit. Tranu redditors predictably pitched a fit so they buffed their max range damage and over the course of 2 years in addition to a handful of new guns made pretty much all of the factions' weapons handle and work the same way so no faction really feels unique anymore.

Just look at a lot of the new (relatively speaking given the pacing of the updates) 1000 cert guns. TR gets a carbine that's basically a poor man's NC gun. NC gets a faster firing carbine that's a poor man's Jaguar. And a lot of other guns were nerfed to match a similar weapon in another faction.

If I could get data on how much $ per player each faction has spent, I think it would explain why this is the trend.

So I'm not crazy in noticing that too. There seem to be a lot of other shit fucking up the game too that wasn't there before. I can get completely locked up trying to switch weapons forcing me to close the game, and some players don't render until after they shot me in the face. Just today there were 2 battles where I could run through entire groups of tanks rezzing teammates and they only seemed to realize we were there when we ghost capped their points.

First, very important, max out the medic and engineer tools. After that I'd recommend getting some basic vehicle equipment, AP and gatekeeper for prowler, vulcan for harasser, maybe an AA gun for the sunderer, because the default weapons you get aren't bad at all, infiltrator aside. AA rocket launchers for the heavy are useful too, and if you like light assault, get C4 and drifter jets.
Also get rail grip for all your guns if you haven't yet.
Things to not cert:

This, I have one and it is a massive let down. You can only shoot down the mentally retarded unless there's a massive group of you and 350 nanites for a lightning means you only get 2 tries.

If you want vehicle AA, go for the sundy AA or get the G30walker on an ANT and go battle ant
