Reposting alternate artstyle portraits.
Also, as far as I know, elona custom is still only up to 1.6.2, but the stuff it adds for english players is worth missing 1 update, unless you have a level 150+ character and you want more act 3 content.

pretty boring sounding update. I am still level 30ish though so w/e.

What would you guys say are the best pets to get? I currently have a little girl and a Warrior of Elea, but I'm thinking of selling them.

God pets are top priority. Pick a god and get one quickly, then decide if you want to switch gods for more rewards from the next god.
Pets summoned from diaries start at level 1, but have potential. Dog sisters can do thousands of damage with charge attacks that they waste on trash mobs
If you can spend money on rods, pets with good magic can do high damage with magic laser.

See that monster? You can fuck it.

Life is suffering, no real bonus for starting with nothing and the negative class trait is a low blow. But it sure feels nice growing stronger from nothing.

This wiki is a mess, I don't quite get what this is. I'd appreciate it if someone could answer a few of my questions.
What is all this?
Is this multiplayer?
Can you upload your own sprites for your character?
Whats the main draw?
Thanks

It's a Japanese roguelike
Not really
Yeah probably
It's a Japanese roguelike
You're welcome

A sandbox roguelike where you can do anything in a fantasy setting
Nah, but depending on the verion you play there are features like leaderboeards and death messages from aother players playing at the time.
I believe there are some blank files for you to add your own custom sprites to the game, you can freely edit your sprites and NPC's too
To me, it's the sheer amount of freedom, content and possibilites. You can do anything in this game.

how do i develop the autism to play elona?

A flu vaccine costs only $15 and contains the same amount of thiomersal as more expensive vaccination regimes.

It is a Roguelike made by a japanese. Unlike most roguelikes, this one is open world and while there are difficulty modes with permadeath, the game is NOT balanced around permadeath but rather around having penalties when dying such as loss of stats, money or dropping random items on death if you are unlucky.
There are MANY things you can do, from marrying a little girl or a bear or a cat, to riding a T Rex or nuking a fucking town or getting stoned to death because this one motherfuckers thinks he is the final judge on wether or not your piano playing skills are good or not and that he is justified in fucking killing you for not meeting his /mu/ shit standards. You can even have a ranch where you breed animals or monsters or people and you can either kill them for meat that you can cook, sell them as slaves or just use them to practice your genetic engineering skills.

The game USED to have online components such as seeing the death messages of other players or voting for the best nicknames, but the server is dead. You can play just fine just without, it was a cute little detail tho.

Changing sprites is easy, either by changing the sprite sheet or adding single sprites on a folder and changing them ingame for your party members

Learn to accept loss, and that you're not stronger than everything around you, specially alone.
Accept that shit will take time, bad things that happen have weighty penalties, but nothing can't be fixed.
Conform to the fact that the game has lots and lots of dicerolls and realize you might get unlucky if you do risky shit.

Ah, I see, thanks guys.
Not quite what I was hoping it was, but I may check it out some other time.

What were you hoping for, friend?

maybe hoping is the wrong word, what I assumed might have been shit in practice anyway
I assumed it might be sorta an mmo with completely custom characters at a glance, but that was only based on confusion

Only MMO that I can think of that allow you to fully customize your characters is Cosmic Break.
There's a 3D mesh editor in game to edit your robots(girls), so you can virtually create any kind of character in it. Dunno if the game is alive anymore though, with a sequel and everything.

Hol up, it's true that I'm not seeing the death messages and the nickname thing isn't there anymore, but I still see dimensional gates…
Also regarding dimensional gates, what happens if I die or lose shit there? Do nothing count there or can I get shit for entering a trap?

As a spellcaster, this makes me very happy. Wonder if the new gravity abilities are any good.

Yeah for some reason those are still around. And dying in them shouldn't do anything.

I don't think it's possible to actually go anywhere via runes/moongates anymore, unless you can use them to visit exported houses that you've downloaded. (Isn't that only possible through the Showroom?)
Also, if you wait until a shopkeeper is standing next to a moongate you can pick it up and sell it for a few hundred gold. Just 'i'nteract with the shopkeeper instead of trying to walk into them.

So who is the best god, and why is it Jure?

Did they unfuck the Metal race yet?

I'd let kumi harvest my seed if you know what I mean

But Kumi's a boy.

boys can be seed siphons, too

...

Good to see you again

Harvest means to collect and gather.
It doesn't necessarily mean growing and nurturing the seed.
t. high level Farmer

what's the context of that pic?

I'm sure there's something he can nurture

Isn't it just showing the tedium of having to plant shit loads of seeds?

Why would you not notice that you're tired enough not to keep planting and just go rest a bit?

Maybe it's a harvest time! quest and she's running out of time

What a whore.

That's lewd, user.

For what purpose?

New to the game, how do you anons recommend I get started?

When you roll a new character, agree to do the tutorial but leave. Don't go to Vernis (the nearest town) until you do the following:
Do enough escort quests or hunting quests you think you can manage (you probably won't be able to do any). Avoid the beauty and the beast quests as you'll get destroyed. Do this until you can buy the Weight Lifting skill if you don't already have it. Then go to Derphy and buy a nuke from some woman in the bar. Lug that shit back to your house and try not to die (training your weight lifting skill might help). Set that shit off inside your home and BTFO that smug fuck Lomias. When you crawl out of your grave, he should drop a nice bow to use. You can now enter Vernis and pick the little girl as a pet and continue on your quest to get stronger.

elona.wikia.com/wiki/Tips
This page lists a ton of shit that might be good to know for when you get started.
Don't pick snail for your race or tourist for your class unless you like suffering.

Because of the Jure fanatics' highly effective methods of brainwashing, obviously. For it is only by accepting the grace of Ehekatl your poor, misbegotten soul can truly be saved, and all can be forgiven.

I've done this before and honestly it's probably easier to just kill them in a party time quest a bit later on. A reasonable pet will do it no problem.

no

I heard a lot of good shit about martial arts at high levels.
Can any skilled martial artist compare it to multiple wielding (4+ hands).
Who is the bigger damage dealer?

lemme see those autisms

For damage, go for martial arts. You can hit multiple times per turn, up to 8.
Quad wielding can be almost as good if you get 4 mana drain weapons since drained mana causes damage to your opponent and it also fucks over their spellcasting.

Does the game finally have its own art style, or does it still use random RPG Maker assets?

Has anyone tried pet gokiburis(cockroaches), do they make good pets.
I would think so as they are immune to all elements except pure magic

That's true but you can get really unlucky and never see him. You'd also have to grind up performer to a decent level unless you don't mind losing fame and some stats.

Note that if you want the innate martial arts multi-hit to work, you can't even have martial arts related weapons equipped like tonfa or claws. Also, you learn an ability "Attribute" that adds extra elemental damage to each punch so if you are a spellcaster with a high-leveled element scar. You need the Element Eye from Miral and Garok's workshop which can change the element of "Attribute" to an elemental one. Sometimes the elemental damage each hit is higher than the punch itself.

Their ai pattern doesn't look like it'd be good for combat

lol

you anime crybabbies still play games for kids haha

In addition to god and diary pets ;

Gold/platina bells are easy and start out strong but dont scale well

Fire dragon child can be pretty strong if raised well and fully evolved

It's just simple bribery.

i see, gokiburi move away and then try to do melee according to the wiki

If someone wants your seed then you can't really say no to that.

You should really fix your equipment. It only costs 1000 each level to bring it back up to 0.

Is the Valkyrie really that good or do so many people use it just out of sentiment?

Give me your seed.

Out of sentiment for me. The cheer is kinda useful though mostly for the other pets only.

What mounts are good for riding, my inherited kali is stealing too many kills

Yeah, you can.

I downloaded elona today and during character generation I got the Alias "Flash Lightning" So I had an inspiration to do a barefists brawler type character. Is that viable in this game, or is unarmed not a thing? I have my strength and con maxed out but theres no notable skills that cater to that sort of playstyle i think so im unsure if it works.

Yep.
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Martial_Arts

I only ever downloaded this game for lewds that were promised to me but I never found any

0/10 shit game you're all a bunch of jews

...

Bump
Should I go Golem/martial artist or fairy mage for my next run?

Whenever an enemy has these features, it's just as an enemy. If you capture it it will lose most if not all resistances.

Just downloaded the game. Is this a strategic thing, or are you just stating the fastest possible route to getting "the little girl as a pet" ?

You can get the little girl as a pet the second you step into town, he's explaining how to kill an npc that you wouldn't stand a chance against otherwise.

Pretty much this. He drops a powerful bow that will outclass anything at that level. Up to you if you think it's worth it though since you are locked out of Vernis until you kill the guy (entering it makes him disappear from your starting cave).

Go fairy martial artist

It really annoys me that the offerings Jure accepts don't make sense.

This game kinda sorta reminds me of ToME and Tibia from the little bit I've seen. No idea what the fuck I'm downloading but I guess I'll see in a while. I have to say the wiki has to be the worst one I've seen for any sort of low level info for someone who has no idea what he's looking at.

Anyone want to explain to me what this game is and why I should care about it? I dug around the JP and English wikis a bit but they don't even have an explanation of what the game is in the FAQ.

Perhaps I've been living in a cave but also, what is a "rogue-like RPG"???

nvm, they had what Elona is on English FAQ, but they put it at the VERY BOTTOM of the FAQ page instead of the very top.

Get off my lawn

Maybe there isn't anything healing-related thats rare enough to be an offering.

yeah it's pretty much that but with more weird and no permadeath. And yes, the wiki isn't that great. Too niche I guess.
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Beginner's_Guide
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Tips
elona.wikia.com/wiki/Wishing
These are good to look at if you haven't already.

A rogue-like is a game that's like Rogue, a dungeon-crawling game with numpad movement grid, randomly generated dungeons, usually permadeath.

Health potions would work. It's not like ore is rare either.

What's that last image? How'd you get an inventory so large?

That's probably from the 4th dimensional pocket spell.

lvl 500 4th dimensional pocket.

Even if you don't intend on becoming a full-fledged mage, try learning the magic related skills and stock it as early as possible, as it easily has one of the best utility functions in the entire game. If you train it enough the weight intake increases and it can hold up to 300 items at full capacity.
Probably what makes it most convenient is that it saves up on a lot more time helping grind favor with gods since its also doubles as a super refrigerator.

So someone told me that in this game, you can't actually raise your skills like you normally would in an RPG/roguelike. Instead, all you can raise are "potential" in certain areas and then you have to drink a very rare and expensive potion of whatever skill you want to raise, and if your potential is high enough and the dice roll is in your favor, that skill will increase. Is this true? If so it seems really fucking tedious.

You raise stats and skills by practice, like in TES or whatever. Potential is a multiplier of how much actual increase you get out of training, and it drops off as you train. Skill potential can be purchased but to raise stat potential you need potions of potential or cooking skill and the right food.
Remember that 90% of playing this game well is about finding more optimal ways to grind or fast-track yourself. If spending thousands of hours on grinding stats or money isn't your thing, you're not going to be enjoying yourself.

that's a shame. I really like roguelikes and sandboxes appeal to me, but I don't really enjoy grinding. This game almost seems like the result of a monkey-paw wish. Oh well I guess I'll still try it.

I have no problem w/ other roguelikes and I want to like this game, it seems like its up my alley, but just can't get into it. I just have no fucking clue what I'm doing and I always lose interest.

Just forget about that shit and get comfy.

Okay so I'm doing jobs to each some gold. New player. The beginner's guide says to buy equipment, which I get. But where do I buy from? I'm in Vernis and everywhere I look has almost no equipment. There's a few cloaks and some angel wings, but not a pair of boots or armor or gloves or anything. Do I have to go to a different town?

I think you are looking at the wrong store, up the street a bit to the nort-east is a smith who sells exlusively gear. Mind you, it won't be cheap enough to be worth it, since his store'll be low-level and you'll get similar gear in the Puppy Cave south-east of Vernis. Then again, if you're new, it should be fine if you can afford it.

Like said, make sure you're checking the right shop.
If the shops aren't providing good enough equipment for you, either check elsewhere until their stock changes or start investing money in them so the shop levels up and provides more and better things.
You occasionally find traveling merchants in the overworld while traveling that tend to be lv50 (or higher, not sure). They'll be very expensive if you're starting out.
Or you could just pick up whatever's good in dungeons and enchant them. Train your Sense Quality skill and you should be able to generally tell some things apart.

To add to what said, picking up junk gear in dungeons and enchanting it can go a long way, especially with armor. The first enchantment level is 650g, if I remember correctly, and will raise both your PV and DV, which is plenty for the first 10 levels, if you do it on all protective gear. If you need money just get some booze, you can also train Charisma that way.

how do I enchant things? and how do I train my Sense Quality skill? The wiki says to buy slaves and sell them back but that seems like a lot of time and money I don't really want to spend.

Go to a smith and select harden weapon/armor
First you get it from a skill trainer and then you just walk around with unidentified gear. Important: Only gear you can equip, meaning weapons, armor and jewelry, count for training.
Fastest way in the beginning is whoring yourself out, unless you are a Golem or Lich or something. Buying and selling slaves is quite a hassle, so don't bother. Another good way is killing things and selling their body parts: Every once in a while they'll drop something like, say, "Blood of Rabbit", or something similar. if you identify one heart, you identify them all and can always get full price for them. So, if you identify "Blood of Rabbit" and get a "Blood of Hungry Ghost" later, it counts as identified for purposes of selling price.
That's a good source of money since they drop sooner or later in large enough quantities to cover your early expenses, especially if you have the Anatomy skill.

Scrolls of enchant. Make sure they're not cursed.
Leave unidentified gear in your inventory.

What race/class did you pick if you don't mind me asking? They really determine the early game. Picking a pianist fairy is different to picking a Yerles Thief for example.

Don't worry if you didn't pick the little girl in the prompt, you can get one from the slaver in Derphy later.

I picked the Juere thing, whatever the first race was. and I picked claymore as a class.

I'm confused. When you guys say enchant, do you mean with scrolls of enchant or with blacksmith hardening? because those seem like different things.

I have Ether disease now and apparently you can only cure that with a special potion that I cannot find a seller for. And someone most of my equipment is cursed.

To get a feel for the the game, that's fine, experiment a bit, won't be your last character.
Scrolls of enchant and blacksmith do much the same thing, but scrolls are less expensive, so not much of a difference right now.
Yeah, you're screwed. Those can only be cured by Potions of Cure Corruption, which are a rare find, marriage gift, won in a cassino or bought for ~6,000,000 gold by a high level vendor. Remember that every 3rd month there is an Etherwind that causes them and you need to be in a dungeon/shelter/Your Home to be protected from them.
Unless you are really attached to your character, you should probably start over, those diseases can quickly cripple you. It's also a good opportunity to get to know the differences between melee/ranged/magic, since all the good AND bad things about each of these are apparent from the beginning and only get stronger in the mid-to-endgame parts.
For a summary:
You have to move carefuly, make huge damage, but fuck that you're badass. Fast enemies will fuck you over, though.
The reason you keep pressing "F" is certainly NOT because you are paying respects, that's the job of your victims' family and your mind's because it gets dull fast. Also, fast enemies will fuck you over.
Hunting Spellbooks is bullshit and neccessary until you're in the Mages' Guild, afterwards you're a bored God or an experimental and suicidal Demi-God. Fuck Resist Magic, though.

that's pretty fucking gay about the ether disease shit. The game told me it was a common disease that was easy to cure. How was I supposed to know every third month causes this wind shit that can cripple me? What am I supposed to do when it happens? Stay at home the entire month? Does it affect me in towns too?

I guess I'm not attached to this character but by how you break down the melee/ranged/magic, they all seem rather lackluster. What's the best way to have fun?

You can go to the town shelter by talking to the innkeeper and pass the time faster.

The Tutorial message is a bit misleading: It's a common disease like AIDS, and the cure is bullshit. Luckily the Etherwind rarely blows for more than three days and if you are in a dungeon/a shelter you can ask the innkeeper about (it's free)/Your Home time will move faster and you can travel without worries again, after some waiting.
I may have misrepresented it, so let me try again:
Universal Drawback: Fast enemies fuck you with a charge but without lube.
Early game: "Little Girl does more damage, but that's fine, I'm not alone on the front"
Mid game: "You are already dead"
Late game: "Kenshiro, are you even trying?!"
Drawback: You need to use your head in positioning or have lots of pets to carry you.

Early game: "That's nice, I don't have to risk my neck and can choose between thrown weapons/bows/crossbows/pistols/rifles/LASERS/anything!"
Mid game: "Yeah, Time-Stoping ammunition is nice but a bit underpowered."
Late game: "Good thing I don't have to be near your ugly mug to suffer your self-centered AoE effects, Nyarollototeph!"
Drawback: You either stand still and make niggas drop or you retreat to do the former.

Early game: "This is nice but not life-saving."
Mid game: "Holy shit, Magic Arrow just wasted the dungeon boss!"
Late game: "Why, yes, I can kill deities and survive. Most of my trophies and cards are from their corpses, after all!"
Drawback: You need to do more legwork than everyone else, what with buying spellbooks and such.

Ultimately, it comes down to how you wanna approach any given threat. Wanna be the unbeatable warrior, the flawless sniper or the allmighty wizard? Then focus on it. Wanna be a mixture? Go for it, all it needs is more training in a small group of skills. Any way you wanna go, you can go, it just takes autism dedication and the right gear/pets.

I rolled a Yerles Gunner, and I'm having fun so far. And honestly, it was a lot easier to get up and running now that I know how the early jobs are done and all that. I feel more confident and I will look out for etherwinds in the future.

What are the statues/cards I see drop from enemies for? Should I collect them?

I heard I can make a far where I breed lewd lolis. Is that true? If so how can I work towards such a thing? What are some other comfy/cool things I can do once I escape the early game?

Be sure to take the "Exorcist" feat when you create your character, otherwise bad dreams will curse your equipment.

If you buy a museum (the deed will cost like 100K) you can put statues and cards in it, and you'll collect a salary as a museum owner. It pays for itself reasonably quickly, especially if you farm uniques (Gwen the innocent, Party Time guests, etc.) since they always drop a card and statue and their stuff always increases your museum rank.

You can buy a ranch (40K~60K) and raise any type of pet on it, including loli slaves. You can also buy a farm and grow crops. I'd advise against buying a storage building, since there are a couple of dungeons in Vernis that you can use as storage without having to pay taxes.

My first "serious" character, finished the first third with with him before reached level 40. Not a bad choice.
That's hoenstly the biggest trap early on, since it's poorly explained in the tutorial. Avoid as best as possible and you're fine.
They are essentially trophies you can put on display if you buy a museum/card deck. Museums give you extra money every 15 days according to their rank and card decks can collect cards for $$card games$$ that are sure to be implemented in the future and the already existing quest for a witch to gather them. Interesting rewards for the quest, until then store them somewhere and sell duplicate statues/cards.
Oh, yes.
First, you buy a Ranch. Cost is dependant on your Negotiation skill, but it's not ouragious. then you, ahem, "collect" the lolis you buy them from the slaver in Derphis and put them in your Ranch and wonder about the heresy forbidden love purest love and its amazing wonders.
Decorating your house, hands down. It's not easy in this game, so it's rewarding: First You need the right store, then that store needs a decent level. Then you need the money.
But after all that, after all the money spent when Best Goddess visits, you will know it was worth it.

And this is why you don't post while drunk, children!

why is decorating the house so hard? I found a way to use the board and decorate it that way, is there more to it than that? Also I heard you can buy new houses, so should I wait to decorate my house until I buy a decent one or what?

The board is a bit clunky, but you'll either get used to or will never bother at all because:
The final house is Small Palace, or whatever it's called, which is already decked out like you wouldn't believe.
As for actually decorating your house with objects: It's simple. You buy furniture from stores and bring them to your home, dropping them where you want. the more expensive they are, the more the raise your Home's value, the higher the value, the more money you get. If your home reaches Rank 1, Deities may visit, too.

Also, you don't need to worry about moving your furniture with you or somewhere safe, everything in your house get's dropped to your next purchase. So, if you have 20 rare chairs, they will move over, together with that hay stack you never moved and the splinters you missed.

When you create a new house, all the furniture from your old one will get dumped in a pile on the floor, so don't worry about losing anything.

The small palace looks alright but I wish I had the autism to make a completely unique and aesthetically pleasing estate. Shame I can't get inspiration from moongates anymore.
Also to those who really dislike the song that plays when you get a new house like I do: the song that plays in the original house-cave is BGM-16.
Or you can replace taku03.mid with machi04.mid in musiclist.txt at elona\user\music if you don't have bgm disc or jukebox.

Can I play this game with a gamepad? numpad is too akward for me to use.

Think you can but I really don't recommend it. There are a fuckload of buttons used in this game, especially if you bind stuff to numbers (you can bind 20). Also, diagnals are considered adjacent so using a numpad is better for attacking/moving.

I think it's the perfect 'set up your shit inbetween dungeon runs' track.

Yes, I prefer it on a pad for some reason. Diagonal directions can take time getting used to, other than that it's perfect. I mostly use guns, though.

If you hold L2 the game will only register diagonals so that's not a problem.

What about using abilities or spells? Don't you find it annoying to have to open the menu all the time instead of hotkeying it?

Is she dancing or is she gene engineered

Probably gene engineered
