Each state votes for a candidate. These votes, instead of going to the candidate, are given to a number of representative voters, based on population. California gets 55 votes because they're ridiculously fucking populated, while Georgia gets around 13 or so. These representative voters are the ones who actually cast votes for the president. From my understand (also a Gerfag), you do not directly vote for a president, but for people who elect their president (i.e., if you vote for Dems they'll get Hillary into office, if you vote Reps, Trump).
Thing is, this electorate is not directly tied to the total population number, so the "flyover states" in the central United States which have a comparatively low population actually still get relatively many votes, especially when considering that the coastal states have a much higher population.
The idea basically is to prevent the coastal states from ruling above the heads of the inland states due to the latter's lower population. Of course, on the flipside, it means that the inland state minorities are very "loud" minorities, and as the inland states tend to be more conservative than the coastal states, the Republicans can get the same number of even more electoral votes than the Democrats even if the Democrats have more people voting for them in total (although the reverse can also be the case).

So, working on renovating DF's homepage. I was thinking of remaking the home fairly similar to the new outlets page, with the latest updates published in full on the left and taking up most of the page, while the right side would have panels with stats, supported outlet etc.
Problem is, it'd be very hard to place website logos on the homepage (they need a grey background), and thus the home would turn out kind of text-heavy, bit drab.
What do you think about spicing the right-side panels like the ones you're seeing here on image three, to compensate? Other ideas?

Bumping up the rez to fix jaggies in that situation seems a more than fair trade off. It's pretty much just making teaching pay like any other job. Basic supply and demand economics, how much is a good teacher worth, or any teacher if demand is high enough? If there's someone better who will do it for less you aren't worth what you think you are. Teachers certainly don't have to worry about mexicans coming in to steal their jobs, and AFAIK demand is always high.
So apparently teachers fighting it don't want to be treated like everyone else in the country. I know minimum wage can be bad, but there's absolutely no way that's where they would end up because supply and demand wouldn't allow it. For the most part the system works best when left alone.
Personally I look at the compatibility issue on a case by case basis. If I'm doing a mostly text based page, and if it has to be accessed on a large scale and wide variety sure it makes sense to build it so even a reasonable toaster running an older version of Explorer on an 800x600 or even 640x480 display can still access it. For a site that is more graphics heavy I tend to not apply the same rule since it tends to have different requirements and scenario usually.
